  1. How much flexibility is there in mic placement in Helix? If it's a bit narrow would it be a good idea to use an amp sim and then use something like Amplitube that has a cab sim that lets you position the mic more specifically? Just wondering.
  2. I live in a house with housemates so I have to keep the volume at a loud talk. My Blackstar Fly 3 is considered pretty loud if I crank it. Part of the reason to get a Helix is to get full volume tones at very low volumes. I had initially planned to use my headphone monitors (Audio Technica ATH-M50x). But I found these and I wondered if they wouldn't also be a good alternative. Still saving up for my Helix (it's going to take a month or so). Thanks again guys. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Control2PS or should I go the next tier up and get a pair of LSRs? https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LSR305
  3. 3) The LT is missing the more robust routing options so if you were going for more physical routing (cables etc) you'd need the big one. I know this is not related to your question but when you play at home at low volume do you prefer the Yamaha or the Alto?

    Helix Native cost

If you are an owner of a Helix do you have to pay for Native or is it included?
  5. In this video they hook up a helix in a manner that lets them use the preamps of the helix with the power section of the Victory head. They are also able to change channels on the amp. Is this the standard 4 cable method or something else? Thanks. https://youtu.be/xaZCK0YFl1c?t=11m https://youtu.be/xaZCK0YFl1c?t=11m
  6. I'm going through options for using Helix at home. I'm in a 12x12 bedroom and my Blackstar HT-5R is too loud for my living situation. So it seems that a proper FRFR set up won't work for me. My understanding is that a powered monitor at a higher volume would sound better than an FRFR speaker at much lower volume. Thus I arrived this thought: Is it better to get a pair of less expensive monitors (in this case the JBL LSR305 for $300 a pair) or a single Yamaha HS8 for $350? I've considered getting a small power amp (like a EHX 44 Mag) and a cab but I think I'd end up in the same situation. The goal is to have a satisfying sound at low volume. I'd just use headphones (Audio Technica ATH-M50x) but I'd like a little more freedom. I've searched the boards and can't find a topic that answers this specific question. Thanks again!
  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I may keep my Digitech Ricochet and Sub N Up then. Much to research.
  8. I hope this isn't a taboo topic but has anyone bought their Helix used? What would the disadvantages be compared to saving a few hundred bucks (like 200-300)? I don't mind buying a new one but if buying used is just as good (if it's in good condition) it would be nice to have a few more dollars to spend on speakers. It's taking me a while to save so I'm exploring my options. Thanks.
  9. I'm a prospective buyer of the Helix. I'm planning to get it in a few months when I finally finish saving up. I'm going to use it for live and recording (as an interface into a DAW, probably Reaper). These are a few questions I still have after researching. What things do you wish you had known about Helix before buying (e.g. routing, DSP memory, modeling, using external pedals, IRs etc). What patches, IRs, etc do you recommend? What signal path do you use for recording (if you do it VIA USB into a DAW)? What specific types of FX pedals or individual pedals (if any) are you keeping to use with helix? Do overdrives work the same as on an amp? Will it clip the signal or respond normally going into the Helix? If I set the amps and cabs to sound like they are playing full tilt will they still sound that way at quiet volumes through headphones or the FR/FR? I intend to use an ALTO TS212 FR/FR and a PC with USB for interface. I'm mainly getting this as I'm living in a place that needs much lower volume than even my small amps can pull off. The only modeling amp I ever had was a little 15w Peavey Vypyr. Thanks again. I've read quite a bit and watched some videos I just want to get the nuts and bolts before I finally pull the trigger.
