  1. Make sure you're using the ASIO under Audio Device. Once you choose ASIO you should see one for ASIO Helix. Make sure you're using that. Can you hear other sound through Helix? If you plug it in as an interface all your PC sound should come through the Helix.
  2. Is TS a regular guitar cable? I've never used stuff like this before.
  3. I'm looking to get a Line 6 Mission expression pedal for my Helix Floor. I have 2 questions: 1) Does the footswitch on the pedal toggle the effect like an actual way (step to turn on, step to turn off)? If not how best to make this work (I'm still struggling to get the wah to activate like I want in a regular block). 2) Do I need a special cable or will a regular guitar cable work? Thanks.
  4. It's a similar limitation to an actual pedal where you have the option of tap tempo vs time. What you may be able to do is set the tap tempo for each fx block and then don't change it. If you want another delay time you could add an additional block with a different time. That's just my guess. Think of it working as an actual delay pedal. Someone more knowledgeable can probably tell you about delays specifically. But that would be my guess.
  5. I thought it was a worthwhile suggestion so I upvoted it. But it's all good if not. It would just be easier to navigate I think.
  6. I just got a Digitech Drop and I would like to know if it's okay to put the pedal at the start of the chain before the Helix (Guitar -> Drop -> Helix). I've been using effects like it (Sub N Up) in the FX loop and it seems to work okay. I'm thinking that if I want to record a dry track in that low tuning though I'll need to put it before the helix to make it work. Thoughts? Is it safe?
  7. Thanks! I'll give that a try later.
  8. I use the old school Boss TU-2 and have it in the FX loop. But that headphone out sounds like a good idea. Would a standard patch or guitar cable work or would I need a balanced output?
  9. Here's the article I got the idea from if you're more technically inclined than I. Also what compressor model do you think would work best for this? And where do you place it in your chain? I usually put mine near the start before the amp to get a consistent signal. https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/parallel-compression
  10. I've been reading on compression, specifically parallel compression (where a signal is split and one path goes through a compressor while the other goes as normal and then the two are mixed together). Can this be done using a single path of the Helix and splitting the path before returning it or would I need to run a dry signal into the daw and then use a compressor from Helix native? Could I also have the same signal path on the second Helix path (amp, effects, etc) run the signal through that with a compressor and then do it as two tracks in my DAW? I already do a processed and dry signal. Thanks in advance. I'm really starting to dig into the abilities of this device.
  11. Finally dipped my toe in the monitor water (goodbye headphones) and got a JBL LS305. I have the option of using either an XLR or 1/4 for it. I don't have an XLR cable though. Should I spend the extra money and get one or is a standard 1/4 guitar cable (which I have plenty of) okay? Is there an appreciable difference in quality at house volume levels with cord shorter than 10 ft? I tried searching but I couldn't figure out how to phrase it correctly. Thanks much. If this works well I'll save up a few bucks and get the second monitor. Also, would it be okay to sit it on a bureau or does it need an actual stand?
  12. If the above model stated is correct then IR is this one: 70s Marshall Cab 1960 B with Electro Voice speakers. https://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=164&products_id=385 Make sure you're using the right file too. Usually Ownhammer has a Line6 folder when you buy IRs.
  13. Yeah I tried some variations but it seems like using a stereo reverb after the IR got the opening I wanted.
  14. Audio Technica's ATH-M50x are excellent, don't require any additional amplification and are around $150 US (sometimes you can get them for as low as $100). I use them with my Helix.
  15. You'd probably have better luck running it into the aux or loop of your Spider. Since I live in a small house I used a Blackstar Fly for a long time. And I also have headphones. But I knew I was never going to be in a position to run a cranked amp. So I emulate a cranked amp at reasonable levels with my Helix. Are you looking to perform? If so you might be better off with selling that Spider and getting an FRFR monitor. Just my two cents.
  16. I record a dry track and then alter it using Native. But I do that by recording from the Helix. I record my track with a second routed track that's dry and then fiddle with it in native.
  17. I've got an Ownhammer IR for one cab block and I want to also have a second cabinet (onboard one). So I can have both going at the same time to get the sound blended. I've tried this by using a splitter to the second cab but it sounds muffled. Also when using the Archon Lead channel the gain is so overwhelming that it's hard to use for rhythm play (yes I realize it's a "lead" channel). Suggestions?
  18. My impression is that the build is similar in quality to a Boss pedal and those are sturdy, metal and borderline indestructible. I wouldn't drop this out of a window or anything but if you are respectful and don't go at it with a baseball bat I don't think you can break it physically with normal use.
  19. High frequency mids with some highs and you'll cut. As long as there's a spot in the mix for you.
  20. You can also just buy a DS-1 for like $40 used on Reverb and run it into the fx loop. They're really cheap and easy to mod too.
  21. I just got some of the Celestion IRs and it included mics. Do I need to install these mics separately and how do I use them with the IRs or are they considered an IR themselves (like a 4x12 with a SM57)?
  22. Just pulled the trigger on the Mosaic. I don't use it often enough to justify a second guitar. I've looked at the Variax but I'm held back by the palm muting issues.
  23. How do I put in a gain block? Is this the same thing as a volume boost or is it something else? Forgive me I'm just now branching out into making my own presets and find it a bit daunting.
  24. But what about the 12 string effect? That's what I really wanted to know. I was just curious if I was the only one with the volume problem. I guess that's what happens when you search the forums for the first thing but not the second.
