I just got a variax standard. The alternate tunings are completely unusable. I don't know if it's both tones being amplified, but it's certainly not a cross talk issue. Just pluck a single string, others muted, and it sounds like a ridiculous jumble of electronic noise like an out of tune synthesizer. Even the small changes like a half step down are ridiculous sounding. I haven't gotten workbench yet, or updated firmware or anything, but the sound is there on headphones and turned up amp. Is that the fix? Is it somehow blending the magnetic and piezo? Using variax into Firehawk into frfr, if that matters.

I have a fire hawk and find it suitable for practice and recording. Live is ok with caveats. Switching from preset to preset involves a lag which is noticeable. So to get around it live you just use the stomp effects (one amp setting, then use mod, distortion, etc) as those are fine. It's only when you change amps that you get lag. So you can still have some decent effects without lag. Otherwise you have to just plan when you do your changes. The actual tones and effects are pretty good, especially for the money.

Do you find better sounds using the Firehawk FX cabinet and speaker emulations running into the powercab set flat? (Or even Firehawk with cab and speakers, and the PC ALSO running a speaker model?!) Or do you remove the cabinet and speaker models from the Firehawk preset? Also, for either recording or live, do you run the output of Firehawk (with cabinet and speaker models) to DAW/FOH? Or do you run Firehawk into power cab (see question 1) and then the output from the PC to the DAW/FOH?

I've run a keyboard, electronic drums, backing track, vocal mic, and live guitar into a mixer then a looper, then into a guitar amp with a single 12. Did it sound stellar? No, all of the sounds were crappy. Was it fun jamming with a bunch of kids? Heck yeah it was. (The guitar sounded the best, btw, the drums sounded the absolute worst!)

Short question: Can you tell the difference between a (Helix/Firehawk FX) and (Powercab) and between the real amp/cab? a) In the room? How much (a little ,a lot, tons, barely)? b) In a recording? Context: I've realized most of the patches/presets I like using start with Treadplate, ie Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. Not all, but most of my go-to tones. For about the same money (say, $1800), you can get a used Mesa Dual Rectifier and cabinet, or you can get a new Helix and Powercab. Yes, I know there are all the other amps, pedals, etc, but if I'm just using the Mesa Boogie presets, why not just have a real Mesa Boogie amp and cab? Expanded context: For recording the real amp/cab, of course you need a good mic, placement, DAW, etc, and then it will eventually come out of whatever your end listener is using. So in terms of recording, does using the Helix/Firehawk direct to DAW really sound different to the end user than mic'ing up the real cab?

So for small neck, the standard is the way to go?

Is there any lag or silence when turning an effect on or off? In the Firehawk there's a noticeable gap when switching amp models, but no gap when turning stomp on or off. Hoping the m9 can work just like a stomp with no gap?!

I don't have access to any variax in store. The standard feels like a Pacifica, great, easy enough to try out. What do the 59 and 69 most closely resemble? In particular the neck; the body doesn't matter as much to me. I prefer smaller necks and fretboards. My current guitar has nut width of 42mm, with medium jumbo frets and a 9.5 inch radius. Seems like all the variax have flatter profiles? But it's not just the specs, of course, so any specific (hopefully common!) necks I can sit down with to try out before mail ordering would be appreciated!

Yeah, I've been essentially running two amps (and cabs). One virtual and then my physical one (set flat and clean) It has sounded great (well, a select few that I use regularly, the other ones not so much). I wanted to record some stuff but in the headphones and on the computer it sounds nothing like what I hear from my combo amp. ANd I don't want to mic my real amp, that was part of the reason I got the Firehawk FX! Ha The clean tones (or little distortion) sound good. But the "metal" presets and tones of that ilk are not great. I guess I'll keep trying to set some patches that sound good in the cans, and then use my other patches when I plug into my real amp.

When I have the Firehawk FX played into my amp, it sounds great. Love it. But when I plug in my headphones (into the Firehawk), it sounds crappy. Decent headphones, too. Sounds the same plugged into headphone output of the amp. I know that it won't sound the same in the headphones as from the live amp, but it sounds pretty thin and bad. 1) is there some switch or setting I'm missing? 2) is that crappy tone what I'll get if I plug it into an FRFR (or PA, or laptop)? 2a) or do I need to set up my patches so they sound good in the headphones, even though it might not sound as good in my live amp? 3) I've played with the patches and can't seem to make anything sound good in the headphones. Just sounds like there's no amp or cabinet modeling or anything. Sounds like what I heard in my phone's back before I had the Firehawk, which leads me back to question 1... Thanks!

Any benefit to the line 6 power cab (paired with Firehawk FX) over a different company power cab/FRFR? Integration or connections or switching out anything? Or will any good FRFR do the same trick?

When you say faster, do you mean the lag when switching between patches? That's my number 1 complaint with the FX.

Is the Firehawk 1500 (with the additional foot controller) essentially the same as a Firehawk FX and a Power Cab?

Should I get a new line6 modeling amp (and control foot board), or just another regular amp, or the power cab? I'm not concerned with "it must sound exactly like this", and more just making cool tones that I like (and sometimes sound a lot like the songs I'm covering). So I'm that regard, having a regular amp paired with the Firehawk FX has been ok, even though I know I'm not getting the exact tone that's being modeled, at least I can get sounds I like to play. In retrospect I wish I had bought a (TBD) amp and foot controller instead of the fire hawk, but since I already have the money sunk... So do I buy a new modeling amp and foot controller and sell the Firehawk? Or just buy a new regular amp? Or get a power cab?

I plug my firehawk fx into my computer (USB), but the computer doesn't recognize it. WIndows 10. Tried cycling power a few times. WHen I right click the sound options, I have a tab for recording devices, but Firehawk isn't one of them. I opened Audacity, it didn't recognize Firehawk. I opened Sony SOund Forge, it doesn't either. How to I get the computer to recognize the USB input from Firehawk? Thanks!
