Helix main screen completely white seconds after boot. Any tips?
datacommando replied to phantomblot's topic in Helix
Hi, As you previously had a completely dead unit, you have no idea if the screen had been damaged by the lightening strike, but I would have expected the unit should have been thoroughly tested before being returned to you. Having said that, it might be worth talking to the Line 6 repair shop, because they may have a warranty on the repair, and be willing to check out the problem. Don’t be tempted to try to fix it yourself, as everything else works correctly, it may be as simple as a bad connection. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, When requesting assistance it is a big help to know what HX hardware device you're using. (Now we know - Helix) Also, as a new user, It might be advisable to some time to read through the Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual, which is full of really useful information. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f041b611d61cac763b/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev F - English .pdf Another good reference resource for Helix users is: https://helixhelp.com Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, This is not normal, and I don’t think that I have heard of others who have experienced a “Dead On Arrival” unit. This is exceptional. It is new and it is covered by warranty, simply have it replaced for one that works correctly.

Hi, One thought that comes to mind is, as I mentioned in my earlier post, using HX Native doesn’t give you the physical hardware connections to allow you to use the FX Loop on you Blackstar. Simply jacking into the front of the amp may not be the best way to evaluate this, plus your St.James has a built in reverb. Is that on, or are you using the time based effects in Native into the front of the amp? Anyhow, you really need to assess the hardware out in the real world, using whatever will be you final output - 4 Cable Method to real amp and cab, or into a Powercab, or through studio monitors. Hope this helps/makes sense

Hi, FYI :- Helix Native is the essentially the software engine that is used in the other Line 6 hardware units, therefore sonically there's no difference. The downside to using the Native is you have no physical Send/Return, FX Loop and Looper so those options are not available. Command Centre Assignments are not supported by Native and are ignored in any presets that are imported. There are also issues with Helix hardware controller assignments - see page 20 of Helix Native Pilot's Guide. You might need a MIDI controller for expression pedal use. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Edit Pilot's Guide 3.60 in German and Block names
datacommando replied to naranja66's topic in Helix
Hi, Here is another great resource. https://helixhelp.com This is the most comprehensive list of models and blocks that you can find for every amp, cab, distortion, modulation, pitch, and other effects found on the Line 6 Helix, Helix Rack, Helix LT, HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL, HX Effects, and Helix Native. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, As you have noted, this issue is not on all presets, but “on many built-in and some custom presets”. Therefore not auto gain as such. Helix doesn’t have any AGC - best guess is, like others here have commented, probably due to some sort of compression or gating on the signal. Heavy compression can cause that “breathing”, or “pumping” effect. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, No, your POD Go presets aren’t not compatible with any of the HX family of products - even though they use the same HX Modelling technology the presets are different file formats and not transferable. You could make notes of all your POD presets for each component in the signal chain and attempt to recreate them in the Helix. That way you’re not really having to recreate them from scratch because you can reference your notes as a cheat sheet. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Not sure if this is of any use, as it isn’t quite the feature you’re asking for, but it is possible to create your own default setting for any of the bocks. From the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide - page 34. Configuring a Model’s User Defaults If you find yourself constantly re-tweaking your commonly-used models, you can save any model’s settings as its new defaults (excluding Input, Output, Split, or Merge Mixer blocks), so the model shows up that way every time you add it to a preset. Choose any model and tweak it exactly how you like it—including any of its parameters and bypass state (existing bypass, MIDI, snapshot, and controller assignments are not stored with the User Defaults). With the model’s block selected within the Signal Flow, right-click on the block and choose User Default. All your current parameter settings are now saved as the default for future uses of the model. (Existing presets that already include the model are not affected.) Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, When you download the zip file “HLX-095-MARS-74x-TM-HX-Patches-V1_0”, it should unpack into 2 folders and a Read Me text file. One folder is named “Patches”, which contains another 3 folders (Helix, HX Stomp and POD Go) that contain the relevant Presets for those items of hardware. The second folder is named “IR Tone Match” that contains “WT MARS 74x TM HX.wav”, the IR file needs to be assigned to the specific location in the IR Library. Either the Helix, or the HX Stomp preset should load into Helix Native without any issue, even if you don’t turn off hardware compatibility, but you also need to load the IR into the correct slot as noted in your post. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I’m not sure why the Privacy setting should be a problem - that is usually only relevant to apps that are using the built in microphone, and as you’re not using that for input/recording, well I don’t see the issue there. I have been using Macs right from the Plus, but I have refused to do the update to the newer OS from Apple simply because I use this stuff everyday and I really don’t want to end up in the same situation as you. I’m still running Catalina and Logic 10.5 (if it ain’t broke etc.), so I’m not sure what is causing the problem you have encountered. I even had an email this morning from a Logic user advising people not to be an early adopter of the new Apple Sonoma (Sunburst). I realise that you say you switched from an iMac to. Mac Pro and now you have problems - other than the computer hardware what else changed?

Hi, A couple of things to check would be that you need to ensure that the Audio preference in Logic are set correctly - to accept audio in from the Helix and that your other audio interface is set for output. This will also need to be set in the Audio MIDI Setup Utility app, which has the ability to configure multiple different ins and outs as an aggregate device. Other than that would require more info on your actual AI hardware and Mac OS. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Edit Pilot's Guide 3.60 in German and Block names
datacommando replied to naranja66's topic in Helix
Hi, It would appear that the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide is only available in English or Japanese at the moment. Also, the blocks in the signal flow are shown with the generic term for that particular block, “Dyn, Dist, Delay, Amp. etc.”. Selecting any specific block (click on it), “Amp” for example, will reveal the actual “Amp” model used in the lower right section of the HX Edit GUI window, where you can the edit any, or all, parameters for that item. So by simply selecting a block “you can see right away what's behind it” and edit it. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
HX Somp/XL Using Snapshots while playing in Preset Mode
datacommando replied to Adr1an0Adr1an0's topic in Helix
Hi again, Correct, and that was my point entirely. You use Preset mode to select the preset you want to use (you don’t need to stay there), and once you have done that, you switch into stomp mode where you can turn on, or off, various effects as and when you need to use them. Snapshot mode allows you to create “Presets within Presets”, and that will let you add a 3db boost and some echo to a single footswitch - no problem. Snapshots alllow you to control up to 64 different parameters within a Preset. The advantage of the Command Centre is that you can essentially assign “whatever you want” to control “whatever you want” very easily. I guess you might have being “overthinking” the whole thing. It’s quite easy really. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, No problem - happy to help, and good to know that you managed to fix the issue and are up and running. Enjoy your updated firmware.

HX Somp/XL Using Snapshots while playing in Preset Mode
datacommando replied to Adr1an0Adr1an0's topic in Helix
Hi, About 20 seconds into this video, Steve says that he uses this “Stomp” set up in preference to all the other options. He also says that you can configure the set up to chose other presets from one of the foot switches assigned in the Command Centre. It’s a different approach to using Presets, Snapshots, etc., but it is worth considering this idea. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, There isn’t a fast scroll function available, possibly because then people would complain that other members of the band have to wait while they hit the appropriate one, after scrolling past too quickly. Anyhow, it might be advisable to arrange your presets into a more manageable list in HX Edit which would give you 4 presets almost ready to go in each bank window. If you know where your various scattered presets are located you could switch back to BANK mode to scroll through 4 presets at a time rather than individually. Find the BANK, then switch back to PRESET mode to select the one you need. I guess, ultimately your Presets for a gig need to be more organised, but there will always be a situation where you need to leap to a preset that is not in sequence - solution, don’t ask for audience requests. From the HX Stomp XL Owner’s Manual: When set to “Presets” or “Snapshots,” FS1 (BANK ) and FS4 (BANK ) change to PRESET / or SNAPSHOT / , where pressing either switch instantly selects the next/previous preset or snapshot, without a bank queue. This is useful if you’ve programmed a fixed set list for your show and just want to increment through all your presets or snapshots. You can also cycle through all three switch types by pressing and holding both the and switches for two seconds. At any time, press and hold both FS1 and FS4 to cycle through BANK / , PRESET / , and SNAPSHOT / . Note that this setting affects the Up/Down Switches for Preset mode as well as Stomp mode (when the “Stomp Mode” option on page 1 is set to “4 Switch”) Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If you’re having trouble triggering this automatically, then do it yourself with a volume pedal. Result - total control. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, In situations like this it is a good idea to let others know what revision of the firmware is installed in the unit. You say you tried “updating and manually resetting everything”, but don’t say how you attempted this. Did you do a “Safe Boot” and offline installation of the latest firmware - it is totally clear from your post? Other than a few people encountering the Blue Screen Of Death on Windows computers during some updates, the only other reference to something similar is from 2015 when a few users encountered a Black Screen Of Death on the hardware prior to firmware v1.02.2 which was fixed pretty darn quick. I tried to download your attachment, but when I do, it is a generic .php file with no image. Best guess - it’s something serious (beyond the scope of anyone in here) - in this situation I would raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Somp/XL Using Snapshots while playing in Preset Mode

Ah, O.K. - check this video from Steve Sterlacci which may answer your question about Command Centre. Steve has done lots of videos on this subject, so you might want to look at some of the others too. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
HX Somp/XL Using Snapshots while playing in Preset Mode
datacommando replied to Adr1an0Adr1an0's topic in Helix
Hi, If you are considering either the HX Stomp, or the HX Stomp XL, maybe you should have a read through the Ownwer's manual for the information you require. HX Stomp XL - available here in English, French, Japanese and German: https://line6.com/support/manuals/hxstompxl Also the HX Stomp. https://line6.com/support/manuals/hxstomp Hope this helps makes sense. -
Hi, The difference in tone that you mention could be due to an impedance mismatch between the HXFX and the Blackstar. First you should check what impedance your AMPED 1 expects in the FX Loop. If it is Line level and you have the HXFX sending instrument level then that could create a loss of signal strength and tone. If it is not an impedance issue and you genuinely regard this as a bug, you really need to open a ticket with Customer Support and bring it to their attention. Sadly, there are no Line 6 staff here, and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - (See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”). Hope this helps makes sense.
