    Volume

Hi Everyone, I have a Laney IRT-studio (15 watts) which I mainly use for club gigging as most of my gigs are at small clubs only. Since we have occasional outdoor gigs, I got myself an ART SLA-2 power amp (200 watts per channel, 560 watts bridge) to somehow increase the headroom/volume of the amp, connecting it via the DI. So I run it like this: Laney's DI to the input of the ART SLA 2 power amp then to a 2x12 cab wired mono. Everything worked fine except for the volume level. I thought having 560 watts bridge from the SLA would give me ample amount of volume but it didn't. The volume level is somewhat just like a 15 watt. Am I missing something? I posted it here just to check if it's something to do with the hd500. I haven't done connecting it without the POD though (will try soon). You may look at the attached file to see how I connected them. Looking for a favorable response. And maybe some tips for the POD or what have you. Some info to consider: - The Laney has an effects loop with a switch for -10dB, 0dB, and bypass - The speakers are Weber speakers @ 16 ohms each wired mono (parallel I think) to get 8 ohms total guitar rig.pdf
  2. Hi Pianoguy, I am not sure I follow. Can you please elaborate more on that. I am new to this. Please bear with me.
  3. All is clear now @kpsion - no mono effect after the mixer unless I want both channel to have the same output. POD's signal routing is very confusing. :D
  4. Thank you. That is very informational. I won't be using any cabs in the POD as I have the closed back 2x12. I'll go with Studio/Direct.
  5. Thank you for that insight hurghanico. What output do you recommed on my setup (POD > Power Amp > Cab)?
  6. Yes you are right, I will not be using a cab on any channel. So the best bet from what I understand is Studio/Direct, with cab disabled. A key point in the config you want to achieve is not putting effect after the mixer cause this is what separate both channel. Adding a mono effect will remix both path on both output, and stereo one (like stereo delay) will have one half per channel - Are you saying that if I want to use a stereo effect, I can place it after the mixer and just add a mono effect after it to get a stereo signal? Please see attached pic if I am doing it right and please check if I got the other effects, amp and fx loop correct as well. :) - What could possibly happen if I only put the stereo effect in one channel only (channel A)? Sorry, I can't test it right now.
  7. Panning hard left and right, and not putting any effects before the split should do the trick to get that signal without the coloration of the other channel - this is good news! I just want a completely unaltered tone in each channel. Thank you for this. "Inserting the first stomp (not stereo) in pre section, a noise gate can be placed before path routing (separation), input will be a bit lowered due to signal split, a commpressor can help reboost if needed" May I know how to set-up the compressor? I am assuming this is the tube compressor, yes? Do you have to put it per channel or after the mixer? What would be the optimum setting? "And i would add using mixer panning to mix a bit both path on both amp could be nice in a second time to achieve overtone" - I am not sure if I understand this. Please elaborate a bit. :) What should also be a good output to choose for the POD? Studio/Direct or Stack Power Amp? Again thank you for taking time to answer my query.
  8. Hi Everyone, I know there are a lot of topics about dual output, but I am not sure if what I want to achieve has been discussed already. I am not well versed with the connections and I am trying to understand everything yet, so please bear with me. Here goes... I am currently in 4CM with my Laney IRT Studio amp. Tone is good and I am not using any amp in the POD - just the fx loop. Then it came to a point that I wanted more headroom. Since I love the sound of the little guy and I seldom do big gigs, I am looking into getting a power amp just to make it louder when needed. Asked Laney and they advised me to use the DI at the back and connect it into a power amp. With that, I've thought about this connection and I am not sure if it's possible. So, since my right output jack in the POD is not being used (currently using the left mono output only - see attached file "current setup"), I thought of connecting it to the power amp as well. But, I'd like to add an amp sim to that channel to achieve a dual amp output. My question is: 1. Is this routing possible? Channel A goes to the Laney (via 4cm) > Power Amp (via DI) > Cab, then Channel B (with Amp Sims) goes directly to a power amp > Cab. 2. I've read from foobazaar that there is a mix of each channel after the mixer. So I might not be able to get true stereo sound wherein Channel A is pure Laney and Channel B is pure POD amp sound. Cab is a 2x12 stereo. Please enlighten me. Your help is very much appreciated. Note: I've attached a pic of my current setup and the setup I wanted to achieve if that gives a better view. :)

    Volume Setting

The only problem I have due to that the IRT Studio has no master volume is whenever we practice (which requires me lower than live volumes), makes the POD (fender cleans) louder than the IRT's (Dirt channel) as it was set to a high volume. I guess I'll have to turn down the master volume every time yes? :)

Thanks a lot. I'll try this one.

    Volume Setting

Hi All, I've been hooking up my HD500 to my Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio via 4CM. I am using the POD for effects and clean tones (fender simulation preamp only). My questions are: (1) how should I set the volume for both devices so that both will be at it's optimum level? (2) Will the POD master volume act as the overall master volume for both amp and POD? Thanks in advance. DO
  12. Hi Guys, I gotta be honest, I just can't interpret the data being presented. I am not we versed as far as these things are concerned. Can anyone help me on what settings to use on the parametric EQ if I want to lower down the 100khz and 200khz to -5 dB? Looking for a favorable response. And thanks in advance.
  13. Been thinking about that either. But I still love the Laney's preamp tone.
  14. I just learned from Laney that IRT does not support MIDI. So I have to get some device that will convert the MIDI signal to a language the IRT understands. I believe it's called a latch type of foot switch the IRT have. Now my problem is how to make these devices talk to each other. :) I may have to ask for your help again in the future. I can't thank you enough for helping me out.
  15. By the way do you how to setup the pod as a midi controller? The manual is confusing.
  16. Thanks. I now understand that a MIDI cable and setting the pod to match the definition on the amp is the way to go. But I'm having trouble understanding how do I set it so that, for example: FS1 will be the clean channel on the amp then add effects from the POD FS2 will be the dirt channel on the amp w/o effects from the POD FS3 will be the lead channel on the amp with a delay from the POD Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  17. You are correct. Only used the POD as an effects device. Using the IRT's pre-amp and power amp section.
  18. I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed already but I'm desperate. My type of music requires me to change from clean to dirty channel more often. The clean channel has delays and such and mostly the dirt is just straight up. Lead channel needs to have delay and reverb. POD on pedalboard mode and connected via 4CM. The problem is, every time there is a need for me to change channels on the IRT, I have to tap dance to be able to stomp effects that's in the POD. I wanted to use the POD as a channel controller for the IRT if possible. So that I can set the POD to ABC mode and just stomp in one footswitch to access the clean channel + effects (in the POD) then another foot switch to access the dirt channel. Makes it easier that way. I'm thinking of using the MIDI controller in the POD but I'm not sure if it's compatible as the IRT's footswitch is kinda different. Need your help if there is another way to hook this two so that it will support my needs. Thanks in advance.
  19. This is great! Thanks Dave.. Apologies, it took a long time for me to reply.
  20. So, the max rating in each 2x12 should be 500 watts right? Sorry, I'm not really good at this.. :D
  21. Thanks Dave. This is good info. Can 2 guitarists use one crown power amp and feed it into two different 2x12's or two passive speakers? Would like to use it with the other guitarist on the band to lighten up the load. I am also looking into using guitar speakers instead of the passive FRFR. Do you think using the Eminence Governor or the V30's will sound good?
  22. Thanks Dave. That was really informational. So you are currently using the Crate and the Beta-12LTA's right?
