  1. I tried something else as well. I put the old pod xt with the Fender clean patch into the fx loop of the pod hd500. I was able to get some good volume for a clean sound -- although it was the xt sound running into the hd, so it was a little odd. I suppose I could use this as a solution but I really don't want to drag around the old pod xt just for a clean sound.

  3. Hello again! I am still puzzled by everything with clean sounds. I went step by step through geppert's instructions (nicely laid out -- thank you!). My clean sound is still not that loud, even with the Master at 3:00. If I add more drive, it starts to get that grit to it. I've noticed a few things and tried a few: 1) Topology 2 seems more than twice as loud as Topology 1. I put Channel A on Top 1, maxed out the channel volume, and had the Drive about halfway up. I put Channel B on Top 2, with the same Drive setting, but channel volume at around 11:00. (Class A/B and Pentode on both channels). Channel B was at least as loud as A. Top 2 seems even louder than Top 4, which I thought would have felt the loudest. It is this discrepancy that is hindering my progress. My overall goal was to get patch volumes at about the same level, both clean and crunch, and then nudge up the lead patches a bit more. If the clean ones always sound so quiet, then I find myself turning down the crunch patches so much that overall the amp is not that loud at all. 2) The saturation/grit that comes cranking the Master volume for a clean sound is most noticeable on my bridge humbucker. (I have a PRS McCarty). In fact, when I do the push/pull coil split thing, I don't get that grit it all - it's quite clean. It's as if that bridge humbucker is overloading the signal. 3) For the heck of it, I dug out my old Pod XT, ran my guitar into and put the output into the DT25 fx return. Setting the Pod XT to a clean sound (Double Verb), I had a really nice clean tone -- more like what I've been trying to get! I'm not sure what conclusion to draw from this. I prefer my pod hd500 for crunch sounds over the old XT, so I don't want to make the XT the solution. I can't get past the feeling that somehow the clean sounds just aren't that loud. I know you can add tube compression in the pod hd to make the sound louder, but I find that tends to increase the saturation effect. I also have the mixer up to +8, so I've tried that. I also can't get past the feeling that *something* has happened over the past few months, as I don't recall feeling this way about the clean sounds when I first got it. Still loving the crunchy aspect of this amp, especially when linked with the pod hd500; best tones I've ever got.
  4. I tried our what you said, geppert It helped, but it is still not a pristine clean tone. There is a part of a song we do where I want a very clean tone wth wah, and with the master volume as loud as I had it, the sound was breaking up. Like I said before, it is a great sound, but not what I want in that case. It seems I can keep the sound clean only at quite low volume, which means then my crunch tones will be very loud by comparison.
  5. I've had my DT25 since March, and while I've been loving it, I never turned the master volume beyond 3, as it always seemed plenty loud. I had noticed reading this forum that many of you keep the master a 1 or 2 o'clock, and with the family out today and the house to myself, I decided to give it a try. Wow! What a difference! I ended up turning down a lot of the patch volumes on my POD hd500. There was just something magical about the master volume being up that high. The Plexi 100 for the first time sounded amazing to me. I noticed I dialed back the drive or distortion effects more at higher volume, as they amp was doing plenty of driving on its own. My only concern was that my clean sounds lost their clean-ness with the master volume up. For some songs, I like a really pristine, glassy clean sound. But when the master volume is beyond 12 o'clock, this nice overdrive kicks in -- nice if that's what I wanted. I tried playing around with different combinations of Twin, Bassman, etc. The closest I could come to maintaining a clean quality at high volume was an AC15, though it lacked the Fender character I was looking for. Has anyone been able to dial in a nice clean sound while keeping the master volume cranked? Thanks!
  6. So....I'm reading about the new firmware update for the pod hd500, and I'm wondering if the new feature that allows you to use the pod's master volume to attenuate basically cancels the need for buying the the items we were discussing in this thread! Has anyone tried the new firmware, and is it an easy replacement for a hotpate, Weber mini mas etc.?
  7. Update! It seems to be working again. I first cycled through each channel and each topology within each channel; all low in volume. I did a rest, and I updated the flash memory to 2.0, and now it seems restored, although in stand alone mode, Topology I sounds not only quiet (I know it's the quietest of the four) but it also sounds like there's more overdrive/gain in it. Maybe it defaulted to one of the other models present in the 2.0? Great troubleshooting ideas on here; I will make a note of them (using the fx return etc.) I just wish I knew what had gone wrong in the first place. I know there was a threat awhile ago on this, but the whole experience just gave me this really helpless feeling that when something digital goes wrong, it's hard to fix. I feel like I lucked out, but I also feel like I was **this** close to having a useless, expensive thing on my hands. Thanks again for all the tips -- these are great forums!
  8. Brazzy, I thought the same thing about the preamp but according to this specs page there is a 12ax7 in the preamp; http://line6.com/dt25/specs.html I will give this a try.
  9. By "how much time" I have on it, do you mean how much use the amp has had? It is about a year old and I have had it for 8 months. I have on average played it about once or twice a week. If a tube has gone bad, how would I know whether it is the 12ax7 or the el34 tubes?
  10. Hi everyone, I went to jam with some friends today, and I really wanted to show off my cool DT25 to a friend of mine. However, things turned into a nightmare. While my tones out of the DT25 sounded accurate, there was hardly any volume. Usually when I jam in the basement with friends, I keep the volume at about 3. Today I had it at 8 and the other guys said they couldn't hear me (and I couldn't hear myself well either). I had never turned this thing up to 8 in my life, as I thought it would melt my ears. My first thought was that it had somehow got into Low Volume Mode, but that was not the case. So something is very wrong here. I use a Pod HD500 with it, but it's not the Pod, as I tried just plugging a guitar straight into the DT25 and the low volume issue was still there. Does anyone know what this could be? I don't move it much, and I've only owned it since March, thought I bought it second hand. Still, it's played like a dream up until now. I'm thinking I maybe have to do a ticket or something. Thanks for any advice!
  11. Replying to my own post! When I moved the Treble knob on the DT25, it seemed to break the cycle and now it all works. What strange things technology does!
  12. Here's a problem I've never had happened before: Today, when I hooked up my xlr cable between my podhd500 and dt25, the pod screen got stuck on the "amp knobs (momentary)" screen. The Treble setting looks like it is fluctuating very quickly between 99 and 100, as if I were constantly fiddling with the knob. I have sound, and it is the sound from my pod patch, so there is data being transferred. It's just that since it is stuck on that screen, I can't switch patches. I have tried 3 different xlr cables, and the result is the same. The amp on its own is fine, and the pod on its own is fine as well. The L6 link seems to be the culprit. Any thoughts?
  13. That's the one I got. I want to say it didn't take that long to get -- less than a week.
  14. I've got a Weber Mini Mass; it was $115. I like it quite well. I mostly use it for home practicing.
  15. Update! I was playing around with the e609 miking the DT25 again, this time with a patch based on the Brit 75 amp: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/225648/ I recorded this in my bathroom in the basement, using a new song idea. Here's an excerpt of how it sounded: https://soundcloud.com/pat-connor-4/dt25-on-brit-75-recorded-with I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I've been using Pod Farm, and this beats it in terms of sound, though Pod Farm is quite versatile and easier to set up.
  16. A great introduction to Steve Howe is the song Yours Is No Disgrace. It was the first song that got my attention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFOOQ8e5J3A Some guitar highlights :54 clean melodic line (I've been trying to learn this at the proper tempo all summer) 5:57 lyrical solo 6:22 jazzy solo There's way more Steve Howe than this, of course. He is a fantastic acoustic player (listen to Clap, which happens to be the next track after Yours Is No Disgrace, or Roundabout) and can rock hard, though he never cultivated a big, high gain tone. His playing is tasteful, melodic, and serves the song.
  17. I remember entering that contest last summer. Congrats!
  18. I saw Yes lat night. Steve Howe sounded great with his DT50. He kept it simple; sounded like he was using the first two topologies. Of course, he is also a fantastic player, and could make just about anything sound good. He also used an older Variax for a lot his acoustic parts, including the 12 string on And You And I. That sounded quite good as well.
  19. I love the look of the Tone Tank -- that would be handy to have! Here is my sample miking the DT25 with my e609. Patch is a JCM800. There is some eq added because I used a Weber attenuator and I needed to add some highs back in. https://soundcloud.com/pat-connor-4/dt25-jcm800-e609-3
  20. Update: I tried out a Sennheiser e609 and things look promising. If I get a chance I will post a sound clip. So far I've just tried on my JCM800 patch, trying to keep the sound simple. I really need to try this out at my friend's studio so I can sit in the control room with the POD and he can move the mic around in the other room.
  21. I have a bank if direct sounds from the pod that I have tried for recording. It can get quite a nice sound, no doubt about that. The DT25 just has this special quality to it. For instance, I have a JCM800 patch I use with the DT25/pod. I can't get anything close to it with the pod alone.
  22. I love the sound of my DT25 + HD500 in a live setting. Best tone I have ever had with a band. Does anyone use it to record in a studio setting? I've tried an SM57 on it, but so far it hasn't captured that glorious sound.
  23. Greetings! I've been puzzling with this for awhile. I want to use my DT25 to record, so I am going to mic it up. (I know I can use the cab sim direct out too, but I prefer it mic'ed up). At the same time, I'd also like to send a dry signal to be recorded. I want to use Pod Farm on this signal later. I tried using a patch I downloaded here called Wet n Dry, which I know can be used to send a dry signal when recording directly out of the POD. However, when i use this patch, all I hear coming out of the DT25 is a dry signal. This makes no sense to me, as Amp A is on. The funny thing is if I change Amp A to something else, the DT25 reconfigures itself to the new typology/class. So I know on some level it knows what is going on, but the sound of Amp A isn't there. I took the Right output from the POD and fed it as the dry signal, which worked okay. I just don't have a wet signal. I have attached a screen shot of the patch. Any sense of what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks! grandinq
  24. This is great! Today I was going to go through my patches and do the same thing. This will be a great reference -- awesome!
