  1. A sort of. But "mics or other instruments" sound professional :D whether I'm saying that a mixer is a good thing for home application and for backing tracks (which are, basically, "other instruments" for most hobbyists). Anyway.
  2. By the way, as far as I know, valve amps usually have their own voice (which might be better or worse), but modelers mostly simulate existing amps. If we ever happen to have valve amps dead and modelers everywhere, what will they model? A century old Marshall?
  3. I don't agree. I use Roland CM-30 monitor with built-in mixer. I use several inputs - one for POD, one for PC (to play guitar lesson DVDs or YouTube videos), and one for iPad (to play along with a backing track). I have a drum machine plugged into POD's CD-IN as a metronome. Sure I could manage with fewer inputs, or use POD's CD-IN for all external sounds, but with a mixer it is much more convenient. If your processor has no CD-IN (e.g. AmpliFi/Firehawk, or a cheap Digitech RP90), then small mixer is a MUST. I used to have a small Behringer and it worked perfectly until I bought CM-30, which has a mixer built-in, so I sold Behringer to save some space on the table.
  4. Absolutely. You can make two signal chains in one patch and it works well. You just need to select second input as 'AUX IN' in global settings and make sure you don't mix channels before the amps. There are two issues, though: 1) You need to keep chains simple to avoid DSP limit; 2) You need to plug bass into guitar input to use built in tuner, and switch to aux in to actually play.
  5. I'm with you on that. Having many amps in the POD (even if there are less of them than in X3), I'd rather change an amp than add an effect pedal. Still, there are too many options - sometimes I get scared and want amplifi instead
  6. That's OK, a Windows based netbook is cheap and small. Rich guys can use MacBook Air :) I'm sorry for my ignorance, what are IRs?
  7. Sure, but it is not the only algorithm possible. There are lots of slowly connected devices in the world, and engineers learned well how to work with them.
  8. You don't need to sync all patches at once, don't you? The one you're editing would be enough
  9. You might want to wait for a Christmas sale :) I personally won't buy packs right after they are out, better wait for reviews, other packs/bundles, and/or a sale. I'm not in a hurry. As for Firehawk, I'm not a pro and I would love to get the simplicity of the new device, but having HD500 I won't switch. If I do, I'll need to add another $100 or $200 on top of the price difference to buy a looper, and that's too much for me.
  10. I had the BSOD issue with HD500 connected to my old PC a couple of years ago. Contacted Line 6 support, but no luck. I switched to third-party ASIO driver (ASIO4ALL) and that helped. The same HD500 works with my new PC fine with original driver. It's really bad that Line 6 haven't fixed the issue :(
  11. Hi there! I have an iPad 3 with iOs 7.0.4. I'm thinking about buying a Sonic Port, but I'd like to clarify if Mobile Pod software works in the background. Is it possible to run Mobile Pod, set up a rig, and switch to another app (say, Anytune Pro+) to play a backing track and play along with it? Thanks!
