  1. I guess I'm not the only one who tries some of this stuff. Check out the "Frequency Shifter". The only musical and usable sound is when you set the "Speed" to somewhere between zero and 7hz. My favorite sound is between 1 to 5 hz. To get the effect I'm talking about, set the speed to 1 to 5 and you MUST set the wet/Dry to 50% otherwise it doesn't work! You get this very nice modern univibe sort of effect. Try it. Here's the kicker: Using HD edit, if you don't manually enter the hz as 1 or 5 etc and choose to use the knob, you first value is 20 hz or 30 hz so you have no chance of stumbling on this lovely modulation effect. It goes without saying when you go to the controller section 1% is somewhere at 30hz! so 1% to 100% almost the same unmusical sound, but anywhere between 1 HZ and 10hz, modulation delight!! Don't forget to set the wet/Dry to 50%. Here's an interesting thing about updates: this frequency shifter trick sounded so much smoother and musical in the earlier Firmwares, it didn't have any pulsating to it, but it's still very musical. So updates sometimes can be to the worse! So the point also is that sometimes there can be a huge difference in some modulation effects if you're able to control precisely and not using a percent. I actually took the time and reported this to line 6 directly about 3 years ago but I guess it's not that important. To me though, it just gives an image of sloppiness and lack of confidence in a product where so many simple things aren't addressed when I compare with the advanced well thought out design of the Xt, X3 and pod farm series. To me it's hard to believe that the company taht designed X3 and POD farm connectivity at the driver level is the same one that designed HD series recording capabilities at the driver level!
  2. I'm sure they're great also, but it's somewhat puzzling to me when I look at any modulation effect in the POD that has the speed parameter in HZ, but once you go to the controller section to control that effect and set the upper and lower limits for the speed parameter, it happens to be in %. Who knows what the reason is to use different units of measures for the same thing. It could be a sloppy short cut to save time that's caused by marketing saying "Finish this today" and it could be laziness. It also could be inability due to bad or not refined algorithm that wouldn't sound musical or smooth when run at shorter intervals, but regardless the reason, it doesn't give an image of advanced device when compared with 30 years old devices that can do the same thing as it's intended smoothly without zipper noise etc..
  3. Using percentage instead of HZ is not only relevant to EQ but to everything that uses HZ such as modulation. Also when it comes to using the continuous controller it is a serious hindrance if you intend to do any creative continuous control of any parameter. If you ever try to control the speed of modulation you will notice it's in PERCENTAGE even if the actual parameter happened to be in HZ (modulation speed). Sure it's not a major deal but it gives an image of inability of the programmers at LINE 6 to do what's standard on other companies devices such as Digitech. Did you ever want to control the harmony interval? If you use POD HD it will only have two values and it won't scroll through the in between values! That's just simply weak and doesn't give an image of an advanced device considering Digitech controllers have been doing all of this for the last 30 years! Why shouldn't you be able to use the controller to sweep the modulation speed between 0 to 4 hz? Sure the HD500 is the best bread and butter processor out there for now but it could use a lot of updates!. I'm definitely interested in What Digitech has to offer, but I will likely keep the POD as it has some great tones that I don't think I'll be able to get anywhere else.
  4. Things changed quite a bit three years later. I know some don't like it when I bring Eleven Rack in the conversation, but any guitar player who considers POD HD PRO will likely consider Eleven at the same price. You get Pro Tools a full fledged DAW, similar hardware features and connectivity (better quality Knobs and hardware), Full Featured Studio EQ, Stunning Reverb in comparison, Re-amping at the software level, way more flexible more featured ASIO driver for serious recording. I'm sorry to be a little harsh, but line 6 shouldn't be allowed to call it HD PRO with the current EQ situation. Using HD PRO how long would it take to apply a notch somewhere between 140 to 200 hz? The short answer: it can't be done? Sure some nice customers created reference conversion from % to hz etc but moving at a 1% increment makes it a waste of time to precisely target a specific frequency in HZ! Many frequencies aren't included as a result even if you consult any reference or measure! Who gave Line 6 the right to omit that many frequencies? Their arrogance thinking they're rewriting how people should use EQ and arbitrarily ignore a bunch of frequencies. Every knob in the parametric EQ is a mystery and again the name they gave it "parametric EQ " is also deceiving. The manual doesn't state anything about the operation of the knobs! This is not a guessing game or is it. But I guess you know them better than most of us and realize how arrogant and suborn they are, that three years later they can't admit that EQ has turned off many customers who simply abandoned the platform altogether! It's a great piece of gear that can be way better with proper EQ. If Digitech comes up with similar modeling with real world parametric EQ, the EQ can be a deciding trigger for many to move to digitech. I've been on this bard for the last three years and I've seen quite a few people completely abandoned the HD line due to EQ.
  5. Well the RP series was similar if not better than the X3 series. The HD series changed that but now Digitech will bring some serious competition. Currently Digitech owns line 6 in Reverbs, modulations, continuous controllers, pitch shifting , harmony and EQ. If amp modeling is equal or better, line 6 will have to give boquets of flowers with love notes to the customers with new purchases.
  6. As much as I think there will updates, the POD as is from day one has been good enough for whatever task at hand. Effect processor, Modeler, Controller, sound card. Unfortunately many guitar players like variety and change and that's also pushed from the industry to get them to buy new products. If you think about it the improvements in the last 50 years mainly have been only in convenience. Guitar Amps and mics have been producing the same sounds for more than the last fifty years. There are so many options out there it's not even funny but where the HD sits there's really none when it comes to amp modeling. Under $500 the POD has the best amp models period. In a few weeks things will definitely change when DIgitech releases their new Modeler, controller, Sound card at a similar price to Line 6's offerings. If the competition is serious where the modeling is comparable to HD, I think line 6, at a minimum, will have to give updates and who knows they might even start giving rebates!! Who knows, they might even start communicating directly with the customers in this company forum and warm up their frigid attitude and aversion to communicating with us commoners who can only afford to buy their "affordable" products.
  7. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a loop issue. I think the POD needs resetting. I had many USB issues that are similar to this and the solution was to reset the hardware by pressing left arrow as you power up,. then remember to calibrate the Pedal. I personally think it is due to the POD being an audio interface, every time you plug the USB the driver obviously has access to the POD volume and other things. After a while problems can arise and to catch that, it seems that the designers had the reset in place for such events!Let us know how it goes.
  8. Did you try the Pre-amp models? This way you don't have to worry about setting Sag to Zero. There's actually a tone stack calculator http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/download.html Based on the calculator, the Marshall's with bass and treble at zero and mid at around 80 they seem pretty flat with a high pass starting at 100hz. I would try the JTM 45 Pre. The Vox can get a flatter response with the same setting, I believe that the line 6 AC models mid need to be center for flat response.
  9. Based on what you describe, the only thing that can accomplish it is copying the preset to another location, increase the volume on the copied preset by turning up the master volume and save it in the new location so that when you press the FS to change to the new preset you get a pure volume boost.
  10. I Prefer Studio EQ in front of the amp with 2 extra decibels (at 7) not at the end of the chain. At the end of the chain it seems to take some of the amp feel or character with it.
  11. But what if Digitech new releases have similar amp modeling but better effects, better yet what if what digitech releases in the next few weeks are regarded by the market as being better amp models and better effects. You might still hold on to the POD but many would be selling and switching and sale would suffer. Line 6 wouldn't allow this to happen if they can and the least they can do is update. I'd be willing to bet that a huge update is imminent and is just a matter of time, based on the reception of the new digitech product. If digitech is a flop, the update can be a paid update, but if it's a home run, Line 6 will very likely provide a free update. If they're not ready for this, the CEO should be conducting a talent management project
  12. You can actually try a global reset first and see if that helps. It's very quick: 1-Disconnect the USB cable connection between HD500 and host computer if connected. 2. Power off the POD HD500. 3. Power on the POD HD500 while holding the LEFT ARROW (<) button while plugging in the power supply to the POD. Now recaliberate the pedal. for more instruction http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects/pod/pod-hd/after-pod-hd500x500-flashre-flashupdate-man-r160
  13. They already released the update for the lower end RP series and leaked out RP360 on sweet water website and then took it down. So far the effects have been upgraded with better algorithms but the modeling hasn't. Their rep hinted that in the next couple of weeks they will release upgrades to the RP500 and 1000 and that will include updated newer Amp Modeling algorithms. If you look at what has leaked out so far, their new RP360 has 40 seconds looper and advanced effects algorithms (tons of effects) and it's under $200! Once the new units with new amp modeling are released, I think line 6 will answer with updating their HD. If they don't, Digitech will steal the show and sales this Christmas. I highly doubt line 6 will release new hardware. The HD series is a top seller and with update to 3.0 they will sell even more. Take a look at the bottom of the page in the link for what Digitech will sell for under 200. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1331617&page=2
  14. Prediction: A firmware update is imminent. It will be a significant update I believe. We could move from 2 to 3.0. It might even be ready, but I personally sense that it will not come out until Digitech unveils their new modeling which will be in the next couple of weeks. I personally can't wait to see what Digitech come up with to see how line6 will counter.
  15. ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, ELEVEN Rack, You asked for it. :D
  16. Positively. For home recording the difference can probably be explained in 10 years of advancements in modeling. Seriously, for recording the xt,x3 are are very inferior to the HD. Hd is much more believable and much better solution if you don't won't to bother micing real amps.
  17. Recently I bought the Eleven Rack and it has three Ecstasy Bogner models, Green, Blue and Red. As close as you will ever get to the real thing. I couldn't wait for line 6 to provide more amp choices.(Don't tell anyone  but even though I keep the HD500, every time I play the Eleven, I consider selling the HD500, but I keep it for effects and Midi control. For the price the HD500 is a keeper for what it does)
  18. Yes, the leslie should replace the speaker cabinet for authentic rotary simulation.
  19. Digitech just released Element and Element XP as update to the RP series. According to Digitech Rep, the algorithms for FX have been upgraded but AMP modeling didn't for these entry Level units. He hinted that in the next couple of weeks there will be updates to the other RP series and AMP Modeling will be upgraded also. Unfortunately, the Upgraded amp modeling will be available at the more than one hundred dollar units. So it's a couple of weeks before the competition will heat up and I bet you that soon after that there will be a massive update to the line 6 HD series. Who knows we might jump to Pod HD 3.0. I expect that update to address so many of user requests and many will be pleasantly surprised. That was a summary of what I read here: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1324883&page=2
  20. I almost bought a JTV last Holiday, but at the last minute I changed my mind. The Mags are quite decent from what I hear. I haven't been following up on the JTV as I'm sorting the inventory of guitars I have that don't get play time. Regarding the high gain clarity, I've been having a lot of luck turning the SAG all the way down to the left. For more clarity and tighter feel, I move the Bias Excursion also to the left. I don't do this often but metal player like to also move the Bias to the LEFT to get the cold AB bias.
  21. For clarity and all purpose set up, delay comes before the reverb. Placing the delay after the reverb might work with short small reverbs. Regarding the L6 connection, it's supposed to be the only cable needed to connect from the POD HD to DT amp series according to line6. Regarding the JTV89 you need to consider that the acoustic guitar models wont' sound good through the DT50. The stagesource speakers would be better suited for acoustic sounds. Before I start sounding like a salesman for line6, let me end by saying that you currently have enough gear and you seem to be having a blast with it.
  22. I'm really glad that you found my answer useful. I honestly believe your setup is better than anything out there and if it isn't broken why bother fixing it.
  23. Most people who like to use reverb over due it. Here's an easy rule to follow. Adjust the Reverb level to where you like it then, reduce that in half. So if you initially end up with 20%, just cut down to 10%.. In other words you want to feel the reverb but not necessarily hear it. If reverb is at 10%, you might not hear it a lot but if you turn it off you will definitely miss it. if you need to create very large spaces complement with delay instead of increasing reverb levels. More reverbs muddies the sound while delays retain more clarity. Use more than one reverb to fattent the sound: TIle reverb 15-20% to create ambience and depth. hall , plate or cavern at levels less than 10% to create more space. The tile reverb will contribute to the 3d perception and even if you don't hear it, if you turn it off you will easily miss the width it contributes. If you think of it as a room, the tile or short reverb will contribute to the width while the long reverb will create the ceiling height. The reverbs in the HD series are more than decent and very useable if you don't overdue the levels. I like the decay and tale of the cavern reverb, I go with less than 50% for decay time but still much less than 10% for level and it still sounds very nice and spacey. The chamber is more forgiving as far as levels and it retains more clarity..
  24. The USB connection is capable of doing serious damage to the POD if you happen to end up with a corrupt patch!! I've had to recover my POD from a dreaded reboot loop twice after thinking it was bricked by using hardware resetting. I confirmed this by opening the same patch and getting the dreaded reboot loop intentionally, so I'm positive about this. It was reassuring knowing that the designers are aware that such problems can occur so they have the hardware reset in place in the even that should happen. Now remember if you use the Line6 driver panel for monitoring and happen to lower the monitor fader, every time you plug the USB, the volume is reduced based on that monitor slider inside the Driver window in the PC or MAC. Add to that some misbehavior and some bugs in the driver and you can end up with unpredictable behavior where you will lose volume completely when you disconnect from USB or the unit will sound like crap literally. I did get real wacky behavior several times and I basically did the Hardware resetting several times to fix the problems. My ability to build and trouble shoot computers helped in that regard, but I can see how not being aware of these issues, some might just be dealing with a malfunctioning unit that can sound like crap also due to these unresolved problems. Just remember to use Hardware Reset and you should be fine.
  25. True. I'm generally happy with the HD500 but I can see how some might be having problems due to basic issues such as what input or mixer setting to use. I was always happy with what I was getting until I got the Eleven Rack that has no dual path, just a simple stereo path. I couldn't believe that my patches that sounded great in the HD sounded small and thin in comparison to those in the Eleven Rack. I figured there has to be a solution that's due to the input/output. Once I figured it out, I managed to get the amp sounds in the HD to be comparable. I wanted to get the full body amp sound and sure enough centering both mixer channels did the trick + also added the graphic eq to compensate for some of the mids missing on one side of the split only. I will probably upload a patch and sound samples to illustrate when I get some time.
