  1. 20% increase only . that explains why there was no big announcements or hype. That's a good thing though and it makes so much sense. If for the same cost, line 6 is getting a chip that's 20% faster, why should they keep producing the HD500 with the slightly inferior chip?! I won't be updating my HD500, but this isn't really targeted at owners of HD500, it definitely helps generate new sales and it's the right thing to do.
  2. You'd be wasting your time. If it was possible line 6 would have provided a translator. The amps are completely different. you're better off Starting from scratch.
  3. there are two sets of output in the hd500 and hd500x. 1/4 inch pair, you can send those to your Powered speaker and the XLR pair can go to FOH. Very simple.
  4. QSC K10 Powered PA Speaker or any powered speaker to use as FRFR . This will reproduce the modeling better than guitar amp and your sound will be identical (for all intended purposes) to the one you send to FOH. You might also want to investigate the speakers line 6 just introduced about a year ago. I know QSC are widely used among those who use modeler but Line 6 speakers have more options. Regarding what POD to buy, it's best to find a deal on the HD500X. You might get something else and save a $100, but it won't be worth all the features that you would loose. Don't buy the HD400 or 300, they don't have input impedance matching. I find input impedance to make a huge difference in adding realism to the amp models.
  5. You haven't tried the amplitube custom shop. Try the new Slash Models and the Soldano, with these amps they caught up even in the feel, with a little more improvement Amplitube will clearly be a head...
  6. I used to have the same attitude and rationale, but at the same time I always knew that those who buy and spend 4 times the dollars can't all be deaf or are they?? The answer I found was no, they're not deaf. What convinced me is when I recently bought the Eleven Rack that used to sell for double the price of HD500 at some point, not anymore and that's when I decided to buy one. For modeling I have a budget of 500 and I don't want to spend more than that so getting an Eleven for close to $300 fit the bill perfectly. After a week with Eleven, I can clearly hear how eleven Feels and sound significantly better than the HD so now I have no doubt that AXE II and Kemper will sound and feel significantly better than the rest. I don't even use the HD models anymore at all and I just bought the Eleven Rack. Saying 10x or 20x is just a figure of speech that I might use personally because I set my budget not to exceed 500 (for now) on modeling. AT over 2k I can buy a few real tube amps, that will sound better than any modeler for live use and small clubs (can't argue this point since modeler model the miced sound so they will almost always sound inferior to the amp in the room sound). Even amplitube is catching up with HD and it can actually be made to sound better much quicker. If the modeling isn't improved when double the processing power is available, clearly line 6 is not serious about modeling. Watch out when the new revalver comes out this year. HD modeling will sound like a toy in comparison even though HD modeling is quite good and mite be good enough to fool most listeners, but POD farm and Pod 2.0 can fool most listener also!
  7. I'm sorry for being vague, I must've wrote that before I had coffee that day. Please accept my apology. At any rate here's what I really want to say. Unfortunately, and I feel bad when I say that, Line6 don't seem to really care about anything posted on this forum or any other forum. They must get some reliable market research from other sources. I don't mean to go on a rant, but I honestly think it's a waste of time requesting anything from them. I visit this board to learn new tricks and see if I can be of help when I have time. Anyone who thinks this is an unfair statement has to answer this question: If line 6 paid attention to anything on message boards, how come they never addressed the dreadful EQ situation after three years and hundreds of customers requesting changing the retarded lowsy EQ even if it's changed in the editor at least which can't be that difficult with the skill levels they have????!!! they don't even have the courtesy to respond to any post or issue on this forum unless you start a support ticket. This forum is just to save them money by having good-natured volunteers (they probably call them suckers) who save line 6 customer service man hours (dollars). They make good money (line 6, not the volunteers), and alot more of it than Fractal or Kemper, for those who seem to think that you have to spend over 2 grands to get participation from company employees with information and feedback. . I wrote line 6 off already. many long term users are also souring on line6, line 6 don't know it because their sales are still good. I'm sure they're doing good and they don't need me but I have a feeling that I can't be the only one who feels the lack of caring and deterioration of line 6 image. I think their best years are behind them as I won't be buying any more line 6 products based on my experience with the POD HD500..Let me stop here and finish by saying what sums it all up "Don't waste your breath"
  8. I'm sorry, but that list is too large and not well though out. To copy and paste makes it difficult to read what resembles a laundry list. It would be better if you had started with items that you yourself find objectionable. My thing is I would like the advancement to be in the amp models and not just to have extra processing power. I don't use dual amps and for those who use the effects only and no amps, the HD500 is more than enough.
  9. Wow. I also know Sean Halley, who has many videos demonstrating the HD and JT variax, also came from Avid!!
  10. I said I didn't play the AXE or Kemper and I doubt it's better, but from what I heard is that if your main interest is amps models then Eleven Model are as good and might be better than AXE one, not AXE II. AXE one didn't have input impedence or True Z as avid called it, but it was introduced in AXE II. So if you don't care about having so many effects, yes the Eleven is as good if not better than AXE I according to some who owned both. The reverb and EQ are similar quality to the reverbs and EQ on the AXe. As I said before I read a post on the Gear page where Cliff Chase the maker of the AXE commented on how much he likes the Eleven Reverb, so I presumed he's playing the Eleven.
  11. He's being sarcastic about my praise to the Eleven Rack. I'm the one who just bough an eleven Rack :) . I'm keeping the POD HD500 for effects and few good patches that I made with the main purpose to use it as a controller to the eleven. In general the Eleven Rack Models sound and feel a lot better than the HD models that I hardly ever play the HD anymore. Extensive testing of similar models in both units made it very clear that the Eleven algorithms and modeling is much more detailed with more clarity and realistic amp feel and sound.
  12. If line 6 acquired the ELeven Rack that's how they would market it and they would do a hell of a lot better job marketing it than Avid will ever do with the eleven rack. Line 6 is a guitar company, Avid is a software company, they have no clue how the guitar amp/modeling work. What they want is to get guitar players to buy into pro-tools so they can sell them more plugins and software, much cheaper overhead. If you factor the price of pro-tools, Avid is practically giving the Eleven hardware for Free. So non guitar players who are buying the bundle think they're getting a deal by selling the Eleven Hardware on Ebay and keeping pro tools. Little they know after buying Pro tools and after getting the free plugins, they will likely spend double that in a few years buying additional plugins etc. I wish line 6 would buy the ELeven from Avid..
  13. It doesn't only look good in Orange, it sounds and feels very damn good. I haven't played an AXE FX , but many say that the Eleven Amp models sound and react as good if not better. The only Draw backs are: No dual path, limited number of effects ( but superior quality in the small variety, cliff chase the maker of the AXE FX himself posted on the gear page how much he liked the reverb and the amps in the Eleven Rack, if that doesn't tell you something I don't know what will.
  14. What you say is true. The expert users and Line 6 employees post on the gear page in similar in thread about the HD500x, and other line 6 products for that matter, but I never see them post here. Maybe their marketing tells them that we,(line 6 forum users) are in the bag. Little they know that people who post here are no different. I recently just bought an Eleven Rack brand new for $325 final cost after selling Pro tools that I don't use. From my experience the modeling is much better in the Eleven to the point where EeLeven is superior to the HD PRO at double the price in sound quality and effects! I still keep my HD500 for variety and the many effects, but for recording, it will always be the Eleven Rack. I'm hoping they will update the modeling or refine it at some point, but believe you and me, the way the amps react and sound in the Eleven Rack, clearly shows that there is so much more modeled and included in the behavior of the amp when pushed or at low volume when using the Eleven Rack. When I heard about double the processing but same modeling, I thought , even if I get the HD500X, it will still be only a glorified controller to the Eleven Rack. Even Ampltube is as good quality as the HD series as of today. One more upgrade to the modeling and it will surpass the HD and wait until Revalver comes out soon. the competition will really heat up. I really wish line 6 a lot of luck, but I have my doubts that the life cycle of the HD modeling will be as long as the XT and X3 series. Digitech is also working on something!
  15. I'm hoping they will have a few extra Models and a new firmware that supports model packs. My HD500 is fine the way it is and the added horse power will hopefully bring more sales to Line 6 so the HD series will continue to develop and get support.
  16. Well at some point they have to update the Chip as prices of faster chips are similar if not cheaper than what the chip inside current 500 is. This is almost identical to updating your PC or Mac with a faster processor while all the programs and operating system remain the same. It's an opportunity to market your current product with a faster processor. I doubt they would wait until inventory is dry before they announce the new machine (with the processor being the only viable difference), they would loose so much sales that way. When the new machine comes out, the stores who still have the older machine give a clearance discount to consumers who don't need the fastest and the brightest who will be thrilled saving money when the only thing they would be missing out on is being able to run dual amps with two or three smart harmony and three reverbs in a row and bragging rights of having a faster processor. This is an update dictated by the market while the core product functionality is hardly effected...l
  17. I just tried Amplitube SLash, the finger response is not as good as the HD but if you can get used to that, it sounds as good if not better than similar amps in the HD. I'm actually anticipating Revalver and Amplitube 4. Fortunately there are many companies and we'e not limited. I'm sure line 6 will refine these amps simply because they have to keep up with the competition and if they don't, they will be left behind, it's that simple.
  18. I have to agree, i find very hard to believe that they couldn't provide that in the PC/Mac Editor at least and not on the hardware itselt. It would have probably taken them minutes. Considering all the routing options in POD FARM/XT/X3 that seemed extremely intelligent and well though out, as much as I like the HD modeling, the image of Line 6 intelligent design was completely shattered when the EQ is still in Percent after three years of release!
  19. If this is going to be like the XT to X3 using the same amp modeling, I won't be upgrading or even tempted to upgrade! It makes a lot sense though to stop the HD500 production since the newer chips are probably the same price, heck the older chips at some point can can become a special order and can cost more. Dual amps (not dual paths) is really waste of resources the way I see it, but to each there own. The best guitar recordings of all time were done with Mono Tracks, the best real world guitar amps sounds are also MONO, so two stereo amps paths in parallel doesn't translate into better sound or tone. For special effects or sound design maybe, but for all intended purposes, the DSP limitation of the HD500 is not a limitation to creativity in any way. You can still have one amp with dual path of any effects you like.
  20. Of course it's confirmed! Line 6 didn't come out and deny this. There are few other active threads on the gear page also and line 6 didn't deny, that's enough confirmation for me.
  21. Agreed, but when the product is intended to model an amp, it's very easy to discern the level of success of that processor. Hd series is pretty darn good, but it's quite easy if to be objective no matter your preferences. When Kemper Demonstrates the Profiled or Modeled amp, whatever you want to call it, and let you hear it compared to the miced amp sound, your ears can't lie whether you own an AXE II , POD HD, Eleven, Amplitube. As far as the accuracy of the models 10 out of ten guitarist, will pick the accurate modeling, but many of them will assert the subjective angle and turn it into personal choice. After all, these models are based on real world counterparts that can be miced up and compared to the virtual one.
  22. I think line 6 would probably appreciate if you would stick around. I currently still own the HD500 and won't be selling, there are quite a few amps and sound patches that I can't get using the other gear I have. Driving the "Divided by 13" or Dr Z with L6 drive, 4x12XXL, u87 mic, yields and amazing unique heavy sound that I can't get anywhere else. The Park Model driven by Tube Drive is also another unique sound. I think line 6 modeling is really good, but with a little improvement, it can become amazing. As is though, all the amps are print quality. With Further EQ and production, they're professional quality all the way. I just wish, if they don't improve the modeling, at least they would split the cabinet and give the option of loading External IRs . I'm sure they're aware of this..
  23. I think this forum is great for whatever it was intended for, but it also lessens the load on customer support when You, I or anybody else can get an answer quickly without having to wait. It also serves as a buffer so Line 6 can say what they want to say without having their name tied to it in a way. Like when you asked why am I hanging around in this forum if I already use the Eleven Rack (it's valid in some point and wasn't offending to me), but if someone from line 6 says that, some others might be offended, heck, I might be offended too. In a way, I think I'm pointing out a major point about how fierce the competition is. Let's face, we all buy gear ultimately based on budget first and we try to get the best sounding gear within that budget and brand loyalty plays very small role in audio related purchases. Sure customer support is huge, but if a guitar player gets a sound they like, sometimes even budgets can go out the window never mind brand loyalty. I have to say that my experiences with Line 6 customer service has been stellar from as far as I can remember.
  24. I'm no expert but based on my readings, algorithms that make up the sound can benefit from more DSP. distortion and high gain sounds can benifit "The higher the "gain", the more the modeler must internally oversample in order to avoid aliasing."If you play high gain way up the neck, the high notes and bends will suffer with aliasing noise, even on the Kemper profiling amp. Solution for those who play far up the neck, put a real distortion pedal in front of the modeler. Some better algorithms need much more DSP, So if line 6 remove the 100+ effects and use one path with AMP, comp, EQ, Reverb, Noise gate, I have no doubt that they can really improve the amp modeling, but they insist on including the kitchen sink on top of everything..
  25. 1- I'm still keeping my POD HD 500 for effects and as midi controller, it can also be used in the effect loop of an amp.. 2-I'm not worried about HD users, I'm just pointing the facts about the marketplace, Eleven competes with POD HD PRO at half the price. 3-I can commicate with line 6 any way they make available. They made this forum for just that. Just because they don't respond directly, doesn't mean they don't read. That's their marketing strategy not to answer directly and keep the discussions going. They can simply respond to this thread by denying!! 4-I am a happy HD user, I just no longer use the HD models because to MY ears and fingers Eleven models are much better and the kicker is Eleven is cheaper also . I'll keep my HD in hope that the modeling will improve and if not I still use it as a controller. 5-For my current budgets I don't like to spend more than 500 on a modeler and to my ears under $500, Eleven is the best AMP Modeler, it has more processing power, so even though there's not much more effects, the Reverbs, Full Parametric EQ, sound Stellar compared to the HD. I believe because line 6 want to cram so much effects, the the effects are degraded. 6-Eleven Rack can be used with any DAW. I use mine with CUBASE and I can do RE-Amping in CUBASE. So you haven't investigated the Eleven seriously. 7 Finally, I'm not trying to sell Eleven Racks, I'm just pointing out the obvious to line 6 and that is a competing product, has much more realistic modeling at half the price so doubling up the processing speed won't do it for me or any one interested mainly in Amp Modeling. I hope that I'm not offending anyone by my suggestions and actually hope that line 6 appreciates my inputs on this forum. Again I reiterate, Amp modeling is where it's at for me and a nice chunks of HD users, Brand loyalty has nothing to do with it as all these parts are made in China and the world is a global village. May the best product win.
