  1. I had my doubts at first and thought it could be photoshop, but turns out that line use used these tactics in the past to gauge the European Markets pricing before they release in the US. If this isn't true, line 6 would respond in this thread. So unless you hear line 6 denying in this thread, it's very safe to presume this is accurate! they're tight lipped isn't an excuse not to come to this thread and clarify. Unfortunately there's nothing in it for me. I was hoping the improvements would be in the modeling even though I deep down know that the life cycle of the HD modeling is probably ten years just like the XT and X3 type modeling. POD 2.0 modeling is still used in mobile apps!! My main interest is in the quality of the AMP models and I think line 6 is making a big mistake if they have similar plans to milk the HD technology for another 10 years without improving the modeling. I just got an eleven Rack from Ebay, Brand New, for $300, and based on amp models and connectivity, it kicks the HD PRO's lollipop big time (it doesn't have dual path, but that doesn't make any difference to me, because Eleven with one path sounds way better). Sorry line 6, the times are changing, you're not the only company that offers good modeling at low prices. I compared the Soldano and Plexi 100 and some of the few amps in common between my HD500 and the Eleven like the deluxe and bassman. When using the same amp, same speaker, same mic, it was amazing how close they both sounded that it was clear they're both seriously modeling the same exact exact amp!!Note that I said close because close is very relevant. Eleven Rack amp models sounded, thicker, bigger occupied more air and space and felt more like a real amp than the HD no matter how hard I tried. I will always use Eleven for any guitar tracks I record because in regards to Amp modeling: as good as the HD models (they are good), they are no match to the Eleven Rack amps! At the same Exact Volume, the Soldono, Plexi 100 etc, sounded bigger clearer and more responsive using the Eleven. When you play the three Bonger Ecstacy models in the Eleven Rack, you start to realize that using the word "close" to describe the modeling of both units is not accurate. It becomes very clear that Eleven is modeling many aspects in the amp behavior and sound that isn't addressed in HD modeling. The blue Bogner in the Eleven Rack, alone is worth the 300 dollars I paid. It sounds better than the "Bogner Exctacy Pedal" sold by Bonger themselves, because it sounds and behaves exactly like the real amp it models! So for me it's a huge disappointment that double the processing is used yet it still runs the same algorithms. My HD500 is a good controller with good effects, but for Amp modeling it looks like I will be using the ELeven Rack for the foreseeable future unless I buy a Kemper or digitech releases their answer to Line 6 HD modeling and hopefully it would be better than Eleven Rack modeling. I'm not sure what percentage of line 6 users I represent, but there must be a huge chunk of guitarists with the quality of modeling at the top of their priority list. So i'll finish by saying to line 6 (who I know read these boards): You gotta improve the modeling to catch up with ELeven Rack at least. Avid has the advantage of bundling Pro Tools with Eleven, so at 699 for Eleven, many sell pro tools for 400 on Ebay and they're left with the Hardware Eleven that competes and beats the HD Pro in modeling at half the cost! I hope this has been addressed in some of your Marketing meetings, because if it hasn't, Avid just updated the Driver to Eleven Rack to work with windows 8, so I doubt they're abandoning it.
  2. This looks almost identical to the HD 500, the only real difference might be in the processor which is hopefully up-gradable if this isn't some photoshop prank
  3. If that's the case, you better snag one while they're being made. I doubt any new product will have different modeling. Even if the new one has a more powerful processor, the HD500 still has enough power for any guitar sound imaginable...
  4. The new product (in a few years, the pod HD will still get updates I believe) might be something like the Kemper Profiler amp. This is not a joke. If line 6 doesn't do it, I don't know who else would!
  5. I doubt he's talking about ghost notes. Not all the amps have those but ghost notes can be heard very clearly on some amps (like the Bassman and few others) specially when playing on the 3rd and fourth strings. You hear another guitar part just like a harmonizer except it's not in Harmony. I hear them all over the place using the Eleven Rack also. Line 6 and avid decided to model ghost notes, but fractal in the early AXE FX didn't model that, and I don't think they modeled hum. Unfortunately, if the high frequencies offending aren't removed or fixed by EQ, then they're just part of the modeling and the more you try to avoid hearing them, the worse it gets. Maybe a hardware pedal compressor infront of the POD might help clean that...
  6. Try EQ before the amp and/or after the amp or a combination of both. When using EQ before the amp, you can cut a lot of high frequecies without losing as much if you use the similar setting after the amp. Based on my experience I notice that you retain more authenticity of amp sound and character with the EQ before.
  7. I hate to say this, but if you're considering spending more money, I would buy an Eleven Rack for around 300 bucks from Ebay. I just bought one and I love the modeling so much that I now use The HD500 as a controller/Effect in the loop of the ELeven. I still have some terrific patches from using the HD series for more than two years, but the modeling is much more realistic using the Eleven that my best patches I've done on the HD are not as good as those I get from the ELeven after only a month of use!. I hope line 6 is not reading these boards  I forgot to mention, Even though Eleven doesn't support external IRs, the IRs are listed as on axis and of axis and when you use it with a computer to use external IRS, I don't have the problem I have with the HD. Eleven with some external IRS is stunning when you hit the right IR.
  8. I think when you use external IRs at the current state of the POD HD, you're messing things up. I'm not against using IRs at all but based on my hearing and some logic it seems that when you disable the Speaker simulation in the POD, you're also disabling other things besides the IR. In other words the speaker or cabinet, in the POD is not Just an IR. If it was only an IR you would see a label stating ON AXIS, Off AXIS etc. The reason is obvious, line 6 for whatever reason don't want you to have that ability yet. I recommend working with the internal POD Cabinets as I think they are great and with the additional parameters in the cab block, you can control the bass and other things. When a unit doesn't officially support external IRs, you're taking chances on degrading the whole sound by misuse. If someone from Line 6 is reading this they can confirm or reject this but considering that the speaker simulation contributes to almost 80-90 percent of the actual tone (according to most sound engineers), I wouldn't replace with an external IR a "cabinet" that might include simulations of other parts of the amp and not just the IR.
  9. Bottom of page 9.1 in the advanced operation manul "Once installation is complete, just connect your device directly to a USB 2.0 port on your computer and power On your POD HD500. Note that POD HD500 requires the use of a USB 2.0 port on your computer (not into a USB hub)" I was like you when I first got mine. I was surprised it didn't work with my old laptop until I found out that the old laptop didn't have USB 2. Initially I wasn't happy, but then I thought it was a good thing and figured the audio driver will have to be more robust than POD XT and tone port etc, and it was. I think the bandwidth is needed because as you edit, you can also run the POD as an audio interface with a full fledged ASIO driver that is really decent that can record and play multitracks.
  10. Try reinstalling the driver. The reason I say this is that I noticed when I change the USB location where the HD USB is plugged, I usually have to reinstall the driver. When you get to the point in the installation where it asks you to plug the POD HD, if you plug in the isolater and it install then you're good, if it doesn't then I recommend returning it since the pod technically doesn't support HUBs, so it might be seeing or not seeying the isolater as it might be similar to a hub in someway. good luck. (don't forget to try the Isolator in a different USB port if it stil doesn't work)
  11. The best way from my experience is to plug your XLR into an audio interface or anything that has a meter. That's how I do all my patches and they all have the same levels or pretty darn close. You can compensate to level patches by using the amp level or the mixer setting inside the POD. I'm guessing the reason Line 6 don't provide meters in the edit screen is due to the different volume levels of SPDIF, XLR, unbalanced outputs etc.
  12. As of now the re-amping is not implemented in the software as you desire/describe. Still there is a 1/4" Dry Output that can be used for re-amping but unfortunately it won't be done using the USB driver of the POD HD PRO. You would need to utilize another sound card to accomplish this. There are other workarounds of course since you have two discrete signal paths that you can utilize one of the paths as a dry signal if you need to record over usb. Who knows maybe the next update might bring this feature at the software level just like POD Farm where you can see various outputs at the software level including dry or direct out. So to directly answer your question, YES you can re-amp if you're not using the USB. Simply utilize the dry out from the pod..
  13. If you're using the same monitor, the sound should be identical. I suspect the settings you have in Sonar need tinkering. What driver are you using? I highly recommend using the ASIO driver in Sonar which will also allow you (if you need to) to monitor effects that you apply in Sonar. Since you have a simple setup I don't want to confuse the issue, but at a minimum, the ASIO driver should be selected in Sonar and from there any minor thing can be worked out. I use the POD HD500 and my live sound is identical to the recorded one using the POD HD ASIO driver. I highly recommend that at least temporarly setup sonar for sofware monitoring using the POD ASIO driver just for the sake clearing that there are no other issues. Software monitoring means that you won't hear a sound until you activate or arm a track in SOnar. IN the case of software monitoring latency becomes an issue and you need to lower the buffer settings to get low latency. Whatever you record should be exactly what you hear if using the same monitor. Later you can use a different setup (Direct monitoring so latency isn't an issue)
  14. Just curious, do you know if the HD500 can be updated using the midi in and out like the old pods?
  15. I think it's a driver issue and/or possibly USB cable etc., not sure what operating system you have but from time to time, i've had issues where Even the HD Edit won't recognize my POD, instead of trying to figure out what's going on , I simply plug it into a different USB port and reinstall the driver. When you're dealing with electronic you have to expect any piece of hardware to fail. Few days ago, I found out that my USB cable that I was using for the pod became defective (it's a cable and from pluging and unpluging it just simply went' bad where it would recognize the HD and sometimes it doesn't) Initiallly I thought my HD just gave out on me,turns out it was a USB cable! I made sure that cable get tossed in the garbage. It's very rare that we think to blame these cables, but from my prior exprerience with different electronics/gadgets, these cable fail often.
  16. Is the pod connected to anything else other than the two amps? By that I mean a computer . I had a similar problem when I had the pod connected to two amps and also connected to the computer for editing at the same time. The solution in my case was one of the usb devices (ethernet card) was causing the hum so as soon as I unplugged it there was no hum. Connected to one amp, I got no hum. If the usb cable is plugged in the pod try removing that.
  17. I hope I don't offend anyone here but you should try the ELeven hardware. If you have a friend or a store that carries them. The XTC simulations are amazingly close (to my ears, they nailed them ) and there are three of them, BLue , Red and clean, instead of 3500 you might get one on ebay for less the $300.
  18. It's early Thursday morning here in Oceania.
  19. Updates more than often were released on Thursdays, could be today!
  20. +1, I don't think there was a chorus effect.
  21. If you must use your sound blaster sound card, then the outputs of your pod need to be connected to the Soundblaster in, however you can accomplish that (if the soundblaster has spdif in, then use that). The idea is that to hear sound, the outputs of the POD have to be connected to an amplification source, in your case it's the SB LIVE. That's fine. When you're selecting HD PRO ASIO from Reaper or any DAW, the POD outputs still have to be connected to the input of (sound blaster live, Powered speaker or any other system of your choice). At first it might seem a little confusing to wrap your head around but it's quite that simple. To hear a sound from any sound card, you must plug the output of that soundcard to an amplification source (home stereo, headphones, Power speakers etc.) and when you use the POD HD as a sound card, the same applies. The HD will function perfectly as a sound card and you don't need any other Driver except the driver that comes with it, just make sure from your daw to choose HD ASIO. I have the HD500, the name of the driver is HD500 ASIO, in your case it might be HD PRO ASIO. Also if you're using the POD ASIO driver, I highly recommend setting the audio option from your DAW that reference your POD HD. In your Operating system select the SB live as a play back and record. There's obsolutely no need to select your POD as an audio device in Windows, again only from the DAW (reaper, Sonar etc. ). You don't won't to be watching a Youtube video and have the sound come from you POD HD, you want it to come from SB live. You obviously didn't buy it to have it play windows sound or mp3 etc...If you have that setting only limited to when you're recording from REaper or other DWAS, I doubt that you will have any issues as windows will not be communicating with you pod unless you're using USB edit or you just started your DAW to record..
  22. A combination of both should be good. Use this forum , respond to posts and ask posters to submit feature requests.; Just like they do at the Revalver forum. I think it's very nice when the DSP programmer/designer responds himself like Michael Ljunggren at the Peavey Forum. I was just at the Peavey Forum and just found out that they're deep into Beta Testing of the latest revavler. They've been working on that forever, when it comes out, I'm sure it will be a game changer. I'm not suggesting that the programmers at line6 do the same, but it would be nice to have some communication from somebody from the company, then again, they're running a successful company and the POD HD isn't bad at all for the money. Actually the POD HD today still offer the best bang for the buck (300,400,500). The competition is fierce though and line 6 I'm sure are working on updates to release at the right time. considering Eleven Racks are sold at the same price as the HD PRO and you get a full featured DAW (Pro Tools version 11) with the ELEVEN Plugin, it's hard to believe that Line6 has nothing in the pipeline as far as updates. Eleven offers what line 6 offer with POD Farm except POD Farm hasn't been updated to HD but ELeven Plugin is identical to Eleven Rack hardware with easy re-ampling and many of the things that are being requested here such as a full featured 4 bands EQ with the ability to set each band to whatever filter type you choose and adjust Q to you hearts content!
  23. Absolutely, that's why I didn't buy the Variax, it didn't have a nylon model. I like the HD500 for the price ratio, but now that I compare it with the Eleven Rack that I just bought for under $400, it's clear to me that Amp Modeling in the ELeven is significantly more advanced, so I no longer care about the modeling in the HD, I use it for effects and midi. I do however believe that Line 6 possibly has more advanced algorithms that aren't used because they want to include everything under the sun in these pods. I hope someday they will release a product without compromising the amp models just so they can squeeze in tons of effects.
  24. Toneman2121, I hope you're saying that in humor. I know they can't satisfy everyone's requests. I sure have submitted several requests for EQ etc and I think quite a few did submit the same request yet it's a mystery as to if anything will ever be addressed. Lately I've been very disappointed with Line 6. I was considering the new Variax around this past Christmas and found out that it doesn't have a nylon model then In January 2013 they announced an update. It was in the News section of this website, recently they removed that announcement completely. I guess when they announce an update in Winter NAMM and they don't deliver as we head into summer, what's the point in announcing. Still they're selling these things faster than they can make them. I just think they're short handed but I know at some point there will be POD Farm HD and many more updats, it's just going to take time. The question is how long will customers stick around if there are similar viable solutions outhere. I don't know if it affects line 6 in the least that I just went and bought an Eleven Rack and that I didn't buy a Variax due to the lack of direct communications with customers and the terrible support to the HD line that also stopped me from buying their new speaker systems when I was in the market for that, instead I went for a Yamaha solution. If they don't read these boards, I personally think they should if they care about dollars and cents, but I guess they're doing very well so they don't even bother to respond with anything!
