MacOS has been the worst update in years. Something with Yosimite was never corrected and it's been sliding downhill ever since. As far as windows 10 is concerned, nothing new to report. Same horrible customer service, same derivative lazy copy of macos and unfixed bugs everywhere. Linux - well is linux and simply doesn't have an install base to further REAL development for consumer grade products like something that could run an audio editor or plug-in dsp accelerator.

I administrate over 20 machines over several locations.

I have 4 years of invoices at multiple business that say that part of this is a flat out lie. You're probably a computer salesman. LOL

Yes, the standard sucks. We are greatly impeded by protools if inspiration strikes - chances are in booting protools there will be problems getting it going. I'm talkin 90% of the time. Yes, all the operating systems suck. There is not one single day that has gone by where everything worked as expected.

The problem is trying to exist on top of an OS that doesn't seem to care about getting things wrong from time to time. Protools was a great stepping stone for digital editing but clearly someone needs to make a purpose built system that isn't laying on top of something else. Windows, mac and linux suck. Honestly, they're very bad and come from a culture of corruption with built in issues to drive revenue for its support. We liked the DAW's of yesteryear they just were also a lollipop to support because of becoming obsolete. If we could find a middle ground between the 2 we would be set. As far as DSP accelerators there are several on the market - basically a gizmo that runs plugins.

https://www.facebook.com/kelly.cordray.3/videos/1982606238633434/ Some of the most high resolution reverb ive heard, normally stuff doesn't resolve that far in the tail but I can clearly hear new blooming notes that were muddy before. And this is on a preset that came with the unit - ISS Flyby
-
I guess that depends on what you like. I haven't really heard anything where blooming verbs coexisted well.
-
The best verbs I have ever heard were in the Eleven rack. That being said - buried in a mix it barely matters - it's more of just musing around in the studio for personal enjoyment. That also being said - I can get the same result I got on the eleven - just the knobs have different names and the settings are different. You can start with the secret journeys patch to see to how to go about it. The harmonic thing - are you sure pitch delay or harmony weren't on?
-
Try playing around with stereo delays with WOW at 0 and the feedback time super low.
-
I feel like at face value you have a legitimate complaint - but if you played more with the Helix you'd get that same tone a huge verb would get you. I have a HoF and I haven't bothered putting it in the chain bc I can get there on the Helix.
-
People with studios are definitely excited about this. Why wouldn't they be? Both items are necessary. People that want to craft in the studio without adding to the wire mess will have a GUI to tune their tone and get their ideas right instead of having a helix unit in their lap or on their desk. Then when going on the road they won't have to take their DAW with them.
-
Archtype lead - and the first downloadable patch for it off the custom tone is freaking bonkers!
-
The uberschall and rectifier with timmay! distortion are both madmen. I was surprised how much I like the clean tone of the jazz as well.

Quick questions - do yall take out the amp+cab model and sub in just the amp, using the IR as the Cab? Does the amp with IR cab+mic use more DSP than the amp+cab?
-
I don't remember my idea scale account. Has anyone asked for the Bogner Ecstacy amp?
-
Oh, word. TBH I don't know if that is good or bad for Eleven fans. LOL
-
All the Helix needs is bluetooth or equivalent to run an app from a smart device as a redundancy to the footswitches or say a sound engineer in the back. But if you're already running cable an extra long USB can already be ran to a computer. So it is kind of moot. But yet, not completely. A touchscreen windows 10 tablet with usb ports can be had at walmart for ~$100.
-
The Eleven terminology is not coincidence. Also, the Amps are basically the exact ones from the 11r and plugin. Perhaps they're licensing it, but it is in reference or somehow connected to Avid's product.
-
It looks to be the next eleven product from Avid. We all thought they gave up on it so we moved on to Helix. I'm actually selling my 11 today after spending a week with Helix. I love the 11, dont get me wrong. But the amount of cable mess I cleaned up by going to the all in one paradigm the helix brings is not to be sneezed at. We were all kind of pissed about the lack of support the Eleven had after the expac.

Duder on youtube playing a helix thru the yamaha.
-
Right - it sounds really good. I only checked to make sure it lined up for playback - not because I was like "Omg 16bit gain structure is killing my ears!"
-
What I had surmised after googling for about 5 minutes was that there is some kind of software technique being used for interfaces that is different than before. If you go to recording tab on sound the helix and other interfaces appear differently than in earlier versions of 10. Maybe it's a compromise for latency purposes would be my guess.
-
Is your windows 10 on the latest update?
-
There's no confusion - I'm talking about the playback ability (since the beginning)- using the interface as a soundcard part. Also I'm no fanboy - I use many platforms and as long as it doesn't get in my way it's not a problem no matter what platform it is. Check for yourselves. edit: On a whim I changed my search criteria to WDM 24/bit windows 10 and it looks like every single interface model has a thread about something similar to this. So I guess that's a case closed. It's Windows 10.
