Playing HD500 through PC

I connected my HD500 to my PC long ago, but it was when I had a DT amp and I used the DT as the monitor and was just using the editing software on the PC.

 

If I want to hear the HD through the PCs soundcard/speakers do I just connect via USB, turn on the speakers and go or is there more to it? I would like to play tracks on the PC and play my guitar ultimately into the PC so the two are mixed and coming out speakers or headphones.

Playing thru the HD500 using the computer monitors is not very good your better off using headphones from the headphones out on the HD500. I can monitor on my PC the way you are wanting too but I don't do it. If yor using a desktop take the speakers from that and plug them into the HD500 instead of the computer.

Installing the gamut of HD500 software puts a driver on your PC to use. In my DAW (Studio One) I can select it, ASIO, Windows Audio or my FP10 A/I. I've never done it... cuz I always use the FP10 to plug my guitar into to record and monitor with my ref's.

Well you can use the HD500 as a soundcard so you can avoid all the latency you method would add. Essentially you are hearing the 500 before the computer and then the computer's output is also going though the HD500 at the same time. Result...no latency! This does mean you need to have the output of the hd500 going into your monitors. Once your 500 is hooked up via USB and your monitors are connected to your 500, you need to select the 500 in your DAW as the DAW's sound source and playback but don't listen to your HD500 track though the software. You'll just hear it though the 500 along with the DAW's tracks that are using the 500 as a soundcard.

I see what you guys are saying. I don't have studio monitors though and didn't want to incur more costs.

I got some research and thinking to do. If I am being realistic, 90% of the time I play through this setup is going to be at night when I will need to use headphones anyway.
