pangwin61
This is my second JTV 89F from ZZounds. The first one had 2 bad Piezo's on the low E and A so i sent it back for a replacement. Now on this one, the Peizo's are all even but it cuts out completely when in the middle of a dive bomb with the Floyd Rose. I can see that the strings are lifting off the Piezo's but the first did not have this issue. Anyone else experience this? This is going back and I'm going to have to get a refund this time and go through Sweetwater so I can have someone go through the guitar before it is sent out. I love the thing so I will be patient until I get a good one but WTF!!! I also bought a JTV 59 last month and had to return the first due to a bad low E Piezo. What is going on here at Line 6? Why are these going out like this? Paul

You mentioned all the piezos on the replacement being "even"...if your definition of "bad" means that some strings are louder than others, then you may end up swapping out guitars until the end of time. Piezo outputs are going to vary to some degree on just about all of them...that's why Workbench allows you to adjust the relative string volumes. I had to adjust string volumes on most of the models I use regularly...especially the Strats and Teles.
pangwin61
By "Bad" I mean "Bad" like you can hardly hear the string and also some weird sonic stuff going on. If I adjusted all of the other string to compensate I would have almost no volume whatsoever. I also checked the connections inside and there were no issues there. Believe me I covered all the bases including talking to tech support before sending these back.
Charlie_Watt
If the strings are lifting off the piezos, you will get no sound. That is a mechanical setup problem.
ice9mike
You can't dive bomb all the way using the modeling. The strings become slack and don't make enough contact with the piezos. You might be able to compensate a bit by adjusting the bridge height and tilt. My 89F was the same way and I had to refrain from deep dives. clay-man
If the strings are lifting off the piezos, you will get no sound. That is a mechanical setup problem. The new Variaxes have rounded piezos which allow the strings to contact when using the whammy bar. It shouldn't be happening. Either it is a setup problem, or the slack of tension causes the piezos ground to short out.
Charlie_Watt
It's the Floyd that causes the strings to go so slack in a dive bomb. It won't happen with the 69's bridge.
Leftzilla
I have never had this issue with my 89F but not knowing how deep of a divebomb you are doing it may not be generating the problem you are having. My VAX 700 did pretty well with this also but I definitely had to get locking tuners. I would imagine the 69 with locking tuners should do pretty well also. Topaz
With non locking trems, as long as the nut slots are not binding any strings, if you grease/lube them up as well as any string trees (I happen to use some stewmac guitar grease) you should be able to go wilder on the bar and still stay pretty much in tune
