iriusman
I'm new to Variax. Do the strings have to be tuned to standard tuning when using the modelling option? And what gauge strings should I get when I'm replacing them? Cheers
silverhead
Yes - tune standard. Factory setup uses 10-46 gauge strings. Keep to that or you'll need a new setup.
shawnmx
Tune the guitar as you normally would any guitar. If you create or use specialized tunings thru the modeling electronics, those tunings will be based on how the guitar strings are actually tuned. So, it's best to just tune the guitar to standard tuning. You can use any string gauge you want. I prefer 09's but that's just me. All Variax guitars ship with 10's and many people use and like that gauge.

But if it's not 10 gauge you will likely need a new setup (action, intonation, and perhaps truss rod).
iriusman
Thanks for the quick and comprehensive feedback, guys. Shouldn't this be in the manual?
