jon_harley_
I'd like to be able to connect my Amplifi 75 to my iPad digitally via lightning cable in order to record in GarageBand. Has anyone done this successfully? If so, can you advise me what cables I'd need? I don't think Line6 make/sell one.
johnnysparko
Hi Jon, I don't know the answer, but this is something I wish to do as well. Hope someone can help. JpW.
silverhead
Can't do that now. Perhaps in a future update but there's been no mention of that possibility yet. For now you can connect to a regular PC/MAC for recording over usb. But to connect and record to a mobile device using the lightning cable you would need a separate audio interface that is designed for that. Line 6 manufactures one: the Sonic Port VX which includes the necessary cable. You would connect the AMPLIFi 75 audio output to the Sonic Port VX Guitar input (mono). http://line6.com/sonicport-audio-interface/sonicport-vx/

jon_harley_
Hey everyone, I thought I'd do an update on this one. I bought a camera connection cable and a USB A male to USB B male cable from Amazon. Initially it didn't work, but then... Magically... It did. A beautiful clear stereo connection. Perfect for recording. But before you order the cables... The next time I tried... I couldn't get it working at all... and there is no way that I can see to change inputs in GarageBand. It either automatically 'sees' the USB and offers to switch to USB input (happy days!) or does nothing and asks you to point you iPad mic at the sound source (boo!). I'm the certain the cables are in good condition and know that the iPad connection is good, as I've used it back up iPad when connected to computer... So I'm thinking that the problem might be the USB on the back of the amp... I'm in London next couple of days and have cables with me. If I get chance I'm going to stop off at Yamaha store and see if I can get to them bottom of it. I'll let you know...

jon_harley_
Hello everyone Thanks for the video link, I'd seen it a while back and my frustration was that I followed what I thought was the same set up as him yet was getting inconsistent results. I'm now pleased to say that I have fixed the issue! I am now able to record through my amplify via USB into my iPad using GarageBand and the results are amazing. Sparklingly clear stereo recordings. The problem I was having turned out to be the 'camera connector cable'. I'd bought it off Amazon for about £8 or so... when I replaced it with an official Apple one (£25) it worked. Here's what you need should you want to do this yourself: AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to B-Male Cable with Lighted Ends Braided 1.8 m / 6 Feet https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NH11YYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Lightning to USB Camera Adapter http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter Happy recording everyone! Have you used Garage Band on a desktop Mac using USB from the Amplifi to the computer? Is this even possible? Will the Mac see the amp and allow you to record direct into Garage Band? The help file for Garage Band references using a microphone in several places instead of a line in connection. Just wondering Jim
jon_harley_
Hi Jim, No sorry, I don't have a desktop Mac. My desktop is PC and the only GarageBand stuff I can do with it is back up my files. Might be worth starting another thread. All the best Jon
