AeroUSA
I recently got a Henriksen Bud amp and I was trying to use the Helix as an effects only unit. The problem is that connecting with XLR has a lot of hiss. Connecting with a guitar cable works fine. Does anyone have the solution for this? Thanks Aaron
silverhead
Turn off the phantom power on your Bud amp input.
AeroUSA
It cannot be turned off unfortunately. It's always on.
silverhead
Then the hiss will be there on the XLRs until and unless Line 6 resolves the issue. Meantime use the Helix 1/4" outputs.
AeroUSA
Does changing from Line level to XLR fix it?
silverhead
Not to my knowledge but worth a try.

PeterHamm
If it sounds fine with a guitar cable, just use that. For short distances, you won't hear much if any difference between unbalanced and balanced.
AeroUSA
I'll do that. Thanks so much!
Lachdanan0121
Not to hijack the thread but does the Hiss happen if the only phantom power that is on... is the one that is powering the mic input on the Helix itself, and recording with a mic? Or is it if there is any other Phantom power device in the chain other than the Helix? Although come to think of it, that won't be much of a problem as when recording with the Mic, we will be using headphones anyways.
silverhead
It affects the Helix XLR Outputs when the connected device is delivering phantom power through its XLR inputs. This issue does not affect the Helix XLR Inputs, whether or not the Helix phantom power is on.
