Luckbad
I have both an Axe-FX II XL+ and Helix incoming tomorrow. I found Tyler Grund's Stevie Ray Vaughan tones for the Fractal and will grab them for sure. Does anyone know of any other great SRV tones for either the Helix or Axe-FX II? Only one of the two units will stay so I want to give both a fair shake.
cruisinon2
The only way to give each unit a "fair shake" is to create your own tones. Relying on someone else's idea of what sounds "good", or downloading patches you've heard in demo videos, is just about the worst way imaginable to evaluate any modeler. They never sound the same with your rig, guitar, and listening environment.
shanecgriffo
the litigator amp with a tube screamer in front is a good start 😉

What I'll probably try to do is dial in tones with the same or similar amps/pedals/cabs (or IRs) for a couple of weeks until I decide which I prefer. Honestly, I want to prefer the Helix. It costs less, looks nice, has integrated pedals, the interface is gorgeous, and I'm already used to Line 6 stuff.

Luckbad
I went to pick up the Axe-FX II XL+ from a guy. Upon my return, FedEx was dropping off a tasty box from Sweetwater (Spoiler: Line 6 Helix). Time for the confusion fun to begin!
shanecgriffo
hey you've got them around the wrong way for starters 😜
Luckbad
Hehe. I'm trying to compare only the sound and core functionality right now, so I flipped them around intentionally. So far, I have multiple usable tones on the Helix and mostly dull garbage on the Axe-FX. The latter has far more parameters to edit on amps and cabs and I can't yet tell if that's actually a good thing.
spikey
My big problem in having so many choices with these things (which is a good thing but time consuming) is that it takes away from my playing time. Im either a tweaking mad scientist or a guitar player but no time for both lol... BTW- nice looking strat you have, but whats the purpose of the velcro passed the nut? Luckbad
If you strum really hard on a guitar, sometimes you can hear a little ringing momentarily caused after the nut. The velcro dampens it. Try plucking a string up there then put your finger where the velcro is and you'll hear what it does. I don't use it all the time because sometimes I like that ring.
