wruthensteiner
Hi! I'm trying to update to firmware version 2.21 with line 6 Updater 1.11 My HELIX has firmware version 2.20, I recently updated the firmware without any problem. Device is still connected with the same USB-cable. Shortly after the update process has started, I briefly see a black screen saying "Wait - loading important ...bla, bla", then Helix Firmware Update FailedAn error has ocurred. Please try again. Please follow these steps when updating your Helix.1. Turn the power switch off then back on.2. Ensure the USB cable is connected directly to your computer and not to a hub or peripheral such as a keyboard or mouse.3. Click 'Continue' and attempt the update again. The screen on the Helix has gone black, the foot-switch labels still appear normal. It does not "reboot automatically and begin rebuilding presets." When I switch it off and on, it's back to firmware version 2.20. Helix IS connected directly to the computer. What now? Thanx for you help! W. Hi, You state that you had recently updated your Helix to FW v2.20 without any problems. So that's looking good. When you tried to update to FW v2.21, you don't say if you had already run the update on the Helix Editor software app., which is critical to the smooth running of the FirmWare. If you have not already done so, please download and install the LATEST Helix editor application (2.21), available here: http://line6.com/software/ This also installs the newest version of Line 6 Updater (1.11), although you do note that have that version already. Please read and carefully follow the installation instructions. When this is fully complete, use the Line 6 Updater to transfer the v. 2.21 Firmware to your Helix. Again follow all the instructions TO THE LETTER! When this has totally concluded you should be good to go. Good Luck
wruthensteiner
Well, I think I tried everything I could think of: Uninstall and reinstall the drivers, different USB ports and cables, manual firmware-download and "select local file",... I even tried a second computer (both run windows 10 64 bit, though) with a fresh install of Helixv2.21Installer.exe (installs latest Helix App, Driver and Updater), then tried to update - same result. I am an experienced user, IT Admin in my company. I followed all instructions to the letter (actually there isn't much that could be done wrong). By the way - the screen before the final failure message says: "Please wait. Loading important post update instructions." The Helix works fine, just won't update. Is there any other method to update the firmware (other than using the Line6Updater)? If not, I'm giving up for now. I will try again, when the next version is available... Thanx! MusicLaw
Have you tried restarting Helix in Safe Mode? See: HelixHelip.com > Reset Options
zooey
Open a support ticket. Support can help you be exhaustive about it, confirm everything, and if all else fails, take it in for service. I haven't heard of service being necessary to update a Helix that was otherwise working, but you never know. Line 6 support is aces in my experience. TroyHelix
NEED SOME HELP PLEASE! I just got my Helix this week and tried it at a practice the other eve. I was trying to run 1/4 out to the monitor behind me (ie to replace my amp/stage volume) and then a MONO XLR to the mixing board. However, I could get sound out of the Monitor behind me but no sound going to the Mixing board. Why would this be? My Globals were XLR out set to Mic and My 1/4 out set to instrument. Not sure what was going wrong here? Also, have been having some issues while Editing the Helix patches, be it in the Mac Computer Editor or Editing on the Helix itself that once in a while after an Edit the Helix will not put out any Sound to the Speaker..... I can still scroll on the screen of the Helix but no sound going to the Speaker. I then have to turn the Helix off and restart it again and then the sound goes back on and through the speaker again..... The Helix was updated to the New Firmware 2.21 and I did the Global Reset with Holding buttons 7 and 8 down at the same time with restart etc. Is anyone else having this same issue with their new Helix Update? Is it a bug? I don't want the sound to just stop while playing live somewhere. Thanks in advance for any Help with these issues.

In reference to your question about the XLR ouput not working the first thing I would check is to make sure your output block is set to Multi or XLR and of course make sure the input channel on the board has sufficient level set on the input trim. Make sure there are no blocks in your signal path or split/merges that are impacting the level to the XLR output and try moving the expression pedal in case the preset was saved at zero volume. Are you seeing anything on the board's meters? Regarding the muting of output while editing, I realize you mentioned that this is happening both directly on the Helix and on the Editor as well but the first thing I would check is to make sure you have the correct 2.21 Editor version by checking Help --> 'About Helix' in the Editor's menu. If you don't have the latest 2.21 Editor download and install the 2.21 version of the "Helix" app. Which version of the Helix do you have LT, Rack, Floor? For example, the correct global reset FS combination on the Helix Floor and LT is FS 9&10 (not "7&8" as you mentioned). The Helix Rack uses FS 5&6. You may want to ensure you ran the proper global reset combination. Make sure you backup presets and IRs first.

I did the Global Reset with Holding buttons 7 and 8 down at the same time with restart etc. I have to agree with the comments from "HonestOpinion" especially when you mentioned holding down FS7&9 for a Global Reset. Actually what you have done is: 7 & 8 Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs. "HonestOpinion" states using FS9&10 which is for a full clean up i.e: Reset setlists to factory, Global reset, Clear IRs. You can do a quick Global Reset with FS5&6. Find the complete Helix Reset Options listed here: https://helixhelp.com/reset-options/ As for the problems with the output you state you are using 1/4 Jack to monitor and Mono XLR to Mixer. This may well be stating "the bleeding obvious", but the rear of the cheat sheet says "for mono signals connect only the left XLR out" - maybe easy to overlook. TroyHelix
Actually when writting the post I couldn't recall the two buttons I push in for the global reset. I thought it was those two. But it was 7 and 8 I used. I used the ones that they showed on the videos and the instructions. I just couldn't recall the numbers of those buttons when I wrote this post as I didn't have the unit in front of me. I did the all the update correctly. For the latest updated, updated to the newest firmware, 2.21 or whatever the newest is. And I then pushed those two buttons to global reset. It seemed all ok. Everything updated properly from what I can tell. But I had those issues when editing patches on the computer editor and in the helix unit itself. Sound will turn off to the speaker for no reason. Then I shut unit off, turn it back on and then it is ok. Until I edit more patches. It will allow me to edit patches, or routes for a while and then it shuts of output of sound. Its strange. The outs to the mixer and the FRFR monitor seem ok now. Instead I ran 1/4 out to the board on Line. And XLR out (line) direct into the FRFR monitor and it worked for my gig last night. So I think that will be the continued route I will go from now on. However, I did try a set up of 1/4 out (line) to mixer, and then headphone out to my FRFR so I could control volume of my FOH and my FRFR monitor independently but the headphone out to FRFR was so so so horribly echo-y. I couldn't find any setting to turn that echo off into the FRFR. However the echo was not in the FOH Mains. When I took the headphone to FRFR out of the equation and then plugged XLR left mono to my FRFR that echo went away. I was bummed I couldn't set up my FRFR monitor up to the headphone out as I would really like to have independent volume control to the FOH mains and Volume control to my FRFR guitar only monitor. Any ideas?
zooey
I think many people set the big knob to control 1/4" out only, leaving the XLR constant, so FOH has a consistent signal to work with. Let them worry about the mix on the room, use the knob to make yourself happy, and maybe your bandmates, depending on your stage monitoring setup.
