jeremyjohnson1
I purchased a JTV-69 Variax about two years ago. Recently, the pickups are not working when the modeling isn't engaged. Has anyone else experienced this issue? It was reassuring to know that I had the option to switch between using the pickups or modeling. cruisinon2
Are you using a VDI connection, or the 1/4" and battery power? If you haven't already, take the battery out and use a 1/4" cable, and see if you get any sound that way. If there's still nothing, it might be a hardware issue with whatever component(s) decides whether the piezo or mag signal is being sent to the outputs. I suppose it could also just be a loose connection somewhere. Either way, it'll need to be looked at by someone who knows Variax guts...unless you're especially handy, and wanna poke around in there yourself. You might get lucky if it's an obvious problem, like a loose/broken solder connection.
guitarnstuff
I have a JTV69. After a very hot and sweaty gig my middle mag pickup didn't work consistently but some electrical contact cleaner sprayed into the 5 way pick up switch and working it in by using the switch got it working again.
