Liquidmuse
As the title really. I downloaded and installed all the drivers and the HX Edit for the Helix yesterday and everything worked a treat, but today when I started up Cubase 9 Pro I got a message telling me new drivers for my soundcard were available and would I like them using. Like a fool I said yes and now I'm getting nasty latency. In the control panel everything is the same at 6ms and all looks normal, but there is a very noticeable delay when hitting notes. I've downloaded new drivers for my interface (Scarlette 2i2), I uninstalled and then reinstalled but no change. Any ideas where I can look? Thanks. klangmaler
Hello and welcome to the forums! Works perfectly here with Cubase 9 Pro. Tell a little more about your computer, OS and Helix versions!

Do you have monitors connected to your Helix or to your Scarlette interface?
willjrock
The two issues are completely unrelated. Sounds like you need to spend a little more time using your stuff. All you had to do is switch baqck to the other driver for the time being. Simply installing new software on your computer isnt going to cause latency through out all the oer programs.. If i had to make a guess the buffer for the 2i2o is set differently (lower) than the buffer for your helix.
Liquidmuse
Thanks guys. User issue - as is often the case. You buy something new, and then you get issues so you blame the latest device rather than your own stupidity. Well mine anyway. I will display my failing for all to see, such is the punishment I deserve for not testing fully before posting. Over the weekend I purchased Izotope mastering suite and I've just realised - or discovered - that when active, it really does cause latency on my spec. In my limited defence I was just fooled by the odd message from Cubase informing me of new audio drivers that threw me into looking the wrong way after just installing Helix software. So apologies for wasting your time, but thank you all.

Gotta give you credit in owning it, rather simply vanishing to let the thread die. Happy to know its a simple solution.
spikey
Yep, Izotope does indeed cause latency on the monitoring side. Playback is ok as usual.

Too hasty Yep, Izotope does indeed cause latency on the monitoring side. Playback is ok as usual. Yeah it certainly does. I'm yet to figure out why it causes latency even when bypassed. Anyway onto the Helix.... what a beast this thing is. One of my better investments that's for sure.
willjrock
Well thats because theres no delay compensation for monitoring real time. Playback is actually not "OK" its just that the delay comp is being applied to all tracks when the DAW is in play mode. This latency will only be noticed if the plugin is on the master buss or on a track you are monitoring. (because you are always monitoring the master buss) It is most likely caused by the "look ahead" algorithm in a limiter or such. Turn off (not bypass) the plugin while the DAW is in play mode. You'll hear the latency. As far as "why it causes latency even when bypassed" there could be a lot of reasons, so you may have to investigate, but bypassing a plugin doesnt always disable its buffer. Turning it off in the channel strip works in every case ive tried, but you may even have to remove it completely, or turn off delay compensation. One of my better investments that's for sure. I bet you feel that even more so a year from now. :) good luck
regalpierot
You could always upgrade to Logic X : )
klangmaler
This would be similar in other DAWs. Izotope Ozone (master bus) is quite 'hungry'. Did you try plugin delay compensation within C9Pro?
Liquidmuse
Did you try plugin delay compensation within C9Pro? Not yet no.....and thanks for the advice everyone. But it's on my to do list for tomorrow. That's if I can drag my sore fingers away from the beast
