Merlin5150
Hi, Just starting to experiment with my HX Effects and have some questions..... 1. how is the signal chain read, left side of chain(exit to amp), right side of chain(instruments input side)? 2. tried the 4CM and couldn't turn my guitar volume up because the amp was really loud, should i just go with the HX in front of the amp? 3. i can't download any customtones yet? sorry for the noob questions
regalpierot
Can only answer two of them 1. I believe it's right to left, which would mirror a conventional pedal array where inputs are on the right and outputs on the left of the things. 3. There are no Customtones for HXFX, all those are for the units that have amp and cab modeling as they are usually baked into the tone. I wish Line 6 would have a Customtone area for HXFX presets. Some day.
frequency440
1. The signal flow reads/runs from left to right. :) 2. Never tried the 4CM, so can't help with that one. 3. I bet Line 6 adds Customtone support for the HX when they get full HX Edit up and running for it. *crossing fingers

There are a couple things here. 1: The loops in some amps are "line level" and some are "instrument level"... make sure you setup the loop in the HX Effects to match accordingly 2: Watch your gain structure in the HX when creating patches. In general, you want the volume to be the same whether effects are engaged or not. If one is too loud, turn it down. Each effects has a master volume to accomodate this. Signal flow is left to right, just like the Helix and Helix LT. It doesn't actually say in the manual, but on page 30 there is a section about paths merging together at the end of the chain and this is shown on the right indicating a left to right visual signal path flow. 2. I have not had this issue. Perhaps start with the guitar volume all the way up and the amp volume down - and go from there. Also, make sure to check your Global settings for in/outs. I have to adjust one of the outs(I think the Effects Send) to Line level from Instrument level to match my amps fx loop level. Perhaps one of your outs is set to line level causing a drastic volume increase?

If you have you cables connected for the 4CM, but don't have the FX Loop block in your chain, you're bypassing your amp's preamp and going straight into its effects return. That why your amp's volume no longer works (the volume control for your amp is in the preamp).
