HX Noise Floor

One of the nasty problems I had with the X3L was idle processor noise when used with a high gain (Blackstar) amp- it was so bad that I had to outboard a vol pedal after it.

My hopeful assumption is that Helix (HX) has no idle noise, because it doesn't have any amp/cab modeling. Can anyone confirm this? YT vids sound really good but I'm only referring to noise present with no sound, i.e.; between songs, etc.

Thanks,

upon initial plugging into my 6505+/Marshall rig there is a definite (albeit somewhat quiet) pfffffff noise coming form the Helix even in bypass mode. Not sure if I have a global level set somewhere...if this is the way it is I will take it back

That's a defective unit... Yes, either return and exchange it or open up a ticket here. It sounds like you just got it, though, so I'd be inclined to return/exchange it.

Well I took the HX effects back to GC. I tried out the other one they had there (it was a return...red flag...) but this other unit also had an unacceptable pffffffffff noise in the background. Even the sales guy noticed it. Got a refund.  Then one of the other sales guys chimes in "ya-we've gotten 4 back because of the same thing"---then the guy proceeds to box it back up and put back on the shelf~ yikes. I guess if your an amateur or bedroom guy who doesn't turn up very loud it might work for you but you will not see any professionals with that particular unit on stage that play with loud stage volume.
