Perfo
ok, i have a pod V1 (the red bean) i have use it for years, now i have the black POD HD DESKTOP, i'm not a beginner user of pod products, the pod hd is very bad sounding, i can not take a good tone from it, i'm working on the pod hd to make the same tone i have on the V1 and i really don't get it. on the V1 i have a beautifull distorion i use almost for everithing, the same for the clean tone the question is: how can i get the same sound on pod hd? the setting on the pod v1 are the one in the pic. the amp model is the modern hi gain (the best model on pod) with the 4x12 98 line6 custom cab drive boost on, eq boost on, bright boost on. the modern hi gain on pod v1 description on the manual is: Modern Hi Gain - The Soldano sound is intensely overdriven, and also has EQ after the preamp distortion. This oversaturated tone is well-suited to thrash metal and grunge bands, but has also been used more subtly by artists like Eric Clapton. This is a good Amp Model to use if you want to get a current Van Halen or Joe Satriani sound. The POD Modern Hi Gain Amp Model is based on one of Mike Soldano’s rackmount preamps. Talk about high gain preamp tube distortion! The X88R we studied to create this Amp Model would have been the rage for Los Angeles studio use in the late ‘80s. so i tried the soldano solo 100 overdrive on the hd but it sound s**tty compared to the V1 the 4x12 98 line6 custom cab i really don't know on what is emulated. my conclusion, line6 pod v1 is so mutch better than the pod hd, i really cant belive it, after more than 10 years they release a so bad product. line 6 JUST put the same amp and cab of the V1.0 on the pod HD please, make some "vintage pack" because the new ones are total crap. Bye one of your oldest client.
silverhead
Can you provide details of your setup? How are you monitoring your sound? What Output Mode are you using on your Pod HD? What are your input settings? The Pod HD really is capable of producing great tones. Many users find that it takes a good deal of time getting used to it. Based on the sounds you are getting I suspect the problems may be related to setup and settings issues. If you can provide details maybe we can help you find the tones you want. Perfo
i use the pod hd connected with spdif on my motu so there is no ADA conversion, outputs mode: studio direct, spdif output: match output s/p level +1 db sample rate 44,1khz (the same on the sequencer) input 1 source:guitar input 2 source: mic guitar In-Z 3.5 (but it change) the pod v1 it's simply connected on the guitar input1 of the motu. I run mac osx snow leopard on a macbook pro and use logic pro. i'm making some A/B comparison, for now the PODv1.0 > POD HD
gunpointmetal
If the original POD is sounding better than your HD either you're just used to the sound or something is seriously wrong.....
arislaf
Guys I agree on this one with the OP...The sound he is using is from the Soldano X88R, not the SLO 100...This sound on the previous gen. pod was with one word, ultimate, and even I on a previous post ask if it possible to get this sound on the HD..Even if i love the HD, I would trade all the Hi gain amps of it for this one.
joel_brown
I also used the orginal red bean for years playing hi gain music. It took me a while (months) to figure out how to get the PODHD sounding better too. Download these two tones and see if it helps point you in the right direction. http://www.childrenofthegraveband.com/AngelHvyPre.hbe http://www.childrenofthegraveband.com/SolOvrDrvPre.hbe Also check out the meambobo website. There should be several threads here dicussing how much great information is available on that website.

meambobbo
Sorry i dont have a bean v1 and cant attest for that model. Also im not a huge slo fan in general, it sounds a little rough and buzzy to me, but with a lower midrange boost it gets fatter and smoother. My guide and patches are located here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/ The only slo patch i think i have is for a vai story of light tone. I have plenty of pod hd patches for other tones as well - keep in mind the bean versions dont set the amp and cab dep versions right. Download hd 500 edit and open the patches to see those settings but mostly i turn the cab deps down to around 25% except low cut which is around 80-120 hz
joel_brown
Adjust the compression before the pre-amp in the patch you got from me. That may help some with finding what you need. Also switching it out for the Line6 Tube Screamer effect may help too. And sometimes a little EQ can make a big differance. But definetley goto the foobazaar.com/podhd website. Tons of great info there.
