RD1967
I have a rookie question. I am a long time user of the Helix but have never understood parametric eq. I educated myself and now understand it but have one question. How do you sweep a frequency on the Helix. It's very simple using the plug in that comes with pro tools. Maybe I'm over thinking it. Can somebody please explain?
DunedinDragon
I can probably explain if you can explain what you mean by "sweep a frequency". Are you referring to the process of identifying specific frequencies within a frequency range that are problematic in order to notch them out? brue58ski
Use the high frequency parameters in the parametric EQ. You adjust it's Q to the highest level (the higher the level, the narrower the bandwidth), turn that level up in the EQ to it's highest point. You then go to the high frequencies' frequency parameter and start sweeping through the frequencies beginning with the highest frequency (did I use the word frequencies frequently enough?). I think this is what you are talking about.
datacommando
Unless RD1967 really does want to sweep a specific range of frequencies. Simply assign the foot pedal to Low, Mid or High Freq and sweep away like an insane custom wah unit. No, no, no! Surely not! That's just crazy! Hi RD1967, I think the reply from “brue58ski”, above, is what you need to do. In the parametric control block, select either the Low, Mid or High band you wish to notch, the narrow the Q point by taking it to the max, then sweep using the frequency control to pinpoint your target. Rinse and repeat. Hope this makes sense.
