Volume Pedal Help...

Hello all....I should know how to do this, but alas....

I am using my POD HD 500X running into a Vox AC15 Amp . So basically I'm using the POD for FXs only...Long story why...Suffice it to say, It's much easier to hear me in the auditorium in church with the amp as opposed to in-ears... I can't seem to hear with in-ears what I need to hear to make sure I am not over powering the rest of the band.  Many times singers say it's either not loud enough or too loud.  :( ...this should help some.

My question is, is there a way to have the volume pedal assigned to the "outside" amp, not the modeler in the POD.  I have disabled the amp in my patch and custom tone.  I can see where you can have the volume for the amp in the POD, but I can't get the volume/wah/expression pedal tied to the Amp....DO I need a separate Volume pedal plugged into the Pedal 2 jack.  Or when I run the cable going from the POD to the amp, just put a volume pedal there?

Any help is appreciated.

I am guessing this is an AC15 without an FX loop and you are running straight into the amp? Without a loop in the amp itself, you will be hard pressed to ever get a POST volume pedal going (behind the VOX PREAMP)...basically, you are stuck using a PRE volume pedal no matter where you place it in the POD chain...You can dedicate it using the pedal 2 jack, but without a loop running 4CM, you won't be able to control the volume of the amp itself in the way I think you are describing that you want to. or am I also missing something?

This is where I am confused. What you describe here is actually a trick... a way to use a volume pedal without using up an effect block for a volume pedal. But as you have learned, it only works when you use an amp in the POD.

The normal way (not a trick) is to insert a "volume pedal block" then make sure the pedal is tied to that. If you do that it wouldn't matter what you use for an amp, you will always have a volume pedal in the patch. Normally you would put the VP block after any comps and/or overdrives, but before any delays and/or reverbs.

In your setup, because you're only using effects on the Pod, there is no reason why you can't have an Ernie Ball volume pedal between the fx and the amp.

The one thing I've learned in all these years of playing is this.....try it...if it works it isn't wrong. Try all your theories and then see which one works for you.

Thanks for all the help.  I'll try multiple ways....I haven't figured out how to have just a Volume Pedal in the POD w/o the amp. I haven't  played with it enough I reckon.  I like the idea of just putting a volume pedal after the FX going into my AC15.  Worst case, I just bought a volume pedal.  I'll use it for other things also.

Spaceatl- you are correct. MY AC15 doesn't have a FX loop. I'm going directly from the POD to the Amp.  When I used a pedal board and had multiple stand alone pedals I had to do the same thing.  The AC15 is probably way more amp than I will ever need for my playing, I would have preferred a AC30, just didn't want the extra weight or cost involved for my playing.

Add the volume pedal FX in the last block of your chain...or right before the delays...or right before you distortion effect...It will take up an FX block...The volume pedal cheat could work on a gain FX if you set the pedal on the output parameter, much like setting it on the Channel Volume parameter on an amp model.
