codamedia
I'm looking at moving from an HX Effects to the Helix LT .... Can anyone who owns a HELIX LT or someone who is quite familiar with it please confirm if I have the concept correct regarding the screen views and modes. 1: Performance View displays what is on the footswitches... essentially taking the place of the scribble strips on the Big Helix. Is this correct? 2: If I setup the preset view to display snapshots instead.... does the mode toggle between snapshot mode (view) and stomp mode (view)? 3: If setup this way... can I assign the "up/down" switches to patches rather than banks? 4: Alternatively.... if I leave the "up/down" set to banks, will touching one of those momentarily bring up the "patches" on the switches/screen... returning to snapshot mode (view) after choosing a new preset. Please refrain from telling me to get the full Helix :) The Scribble Strips mean nothing to me on my HX Effects and I don't need the additional I/O. Besides, here in Canada, it's a $650 difference for those features I don't require.
themetallikid
believe you are correct on all of them, the only one I cannot answer is the 4th one. #1 Performance view shows you the button layout for presets/snaps/stomps #2 you can set the view to a combination of several things. I use 4 presets/4 snaps as I don't require more than 4 snaps per song. But there are stomp and other options in that menu. I have a few songs with only one snapshot, but then have a stomp switch (press mode to go into snap mode) that is a momentary switch to turn on my lead sound for some quick runs, rather than doing a click on, click off for the 1.5 second lead fill. When that song is done, I press mode to go back to my 4/4 screen mode. #3 Yes, if you need 8 snaps or 4 snaps/4 stomps or something....and you want to use the up/down buttons to change presets you can do that. That is how I had it setup for awhile as I don't really have a need to jump banks when I was running the 8 snap mode. In the 4/4 mode that I use now, I use the up/down for bank switching as that jumps my setlist 4 songs at a time, which works for us as we call audibles from an 'extra song' list. We play about 40 songs a night off a list of about 85....pending on the crowds. #4 - not sure on this one, sorry.
SteveFrance
Themetallica has brought a lot of answers. For the fourth point you just have to stay on snapshot mode, click on the banks set UP/Down button, select your preset and it automatically goes back on the snapshot mode (the last one saved per preset). I hope this was what you were asking.... But if you really want to move from a device to the other one, i would say, the main thing is the way you'll want to use your Helix. I assume, today, you use it with an amp, in front and/or FX loop. If you use the LT this way, i think it looses a lot of interest because you don't use the benefit of cab and amp sims.... This is really another way to thing your rig, it needs a FRFR too.....
codamedia
Thanks for the input everyone... you have confirmed my notions on how it all operated. 7 hours ago, SteveFrance said: I assume, today, you use it with an amp, in front and/or FX loop. I am very familiar with all of this. I currently have a very modular rig. At times I run direct into my amp with my HX Effects and a few extras... but other times I go direct to FOH (monitors, FRFR, etc... etc..) with a combination of my HD500 and HX Effects. I'm very comfortable with any style of setup and have the necessary amp / speaker setups to accommodate each.
