george_007
Hi team! I can read in the manual that momentary switches should be used if you want to connect extra footswitches (FS 4 and FS5) to the HX Stomp. However, I do not understand if the momentary switches should be of the type "Normally open" or "Normally closed". Does anyone know? Maybe it does not matter since it's not specified in the manual? As minor as it is, it can matter. Both types should work fine, but their will be a slight "delay" if you choose the wrong one. Instead of engaging when you PUSH, it will engage when RELEASED... and that can feel wrong to some people. There is also a possibility (very small) that the wrong choice could have a drastic effect. If it is normally in the "engage" position, it could trigger a "press and hold" type function... but I don't know if such a function exists on the Stomp :) IMO: It would be safest to get a definitive answer on this before spending any money on it. Sorry, I do not have that answer myself.

Regards Georg My Boss footswitch has the ability to switch back and forth, but it's default was "normally open" and it worked just fine if that helps. Honestly, with the Stomp I don't think it will matter because it's a pretty complex device with tons of global settings - and one of the global settings is the ability to reverse the polarity on the footswitch and I believe it's the exact same control on the Boss footswitch. I haven't tested it though, but I'm pretty sure it can do the exact same thing. You just have to remember to go into the global guts and change them.
phil_m
Either will work. It is setup for N/O by default, but if you want to use N/C, just go to Global Settings>Preferences>Tip Polarity and Ring Polarity and set them to "Invert".
