M13 To Dt 50 (0r Dt 25 Probably)

Hi, when I connect my M13 to my DT50 using the 4 cable method, it seems that the amp's reverb doesn't work.  I have to use an effects bank for reverb.  But I was hoping that if the guitar is connected via the M13 and the M13 is off that the controls of the amp would all work.

 

Would this possibly be because by default the guitar's signal goes into the effects loop? (That doesn't make sense to me, even as I type it.)

if you are going into the DT amp via the effects loop then you would be bypassing all the preamp controls and features including the reverb i suspect... i have not tried this myself though... but makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks.  I wonder if there is a way for the signal to go to the front of the amp unless I tell it to go into the effects loop.  I guess this is a matter of 4 cable connection, but it seems the default it to go into the loop unless I activate a bank that I told to be in front of the amp.

 

Maybe I should create a bank in front of the loop and just make it an eq or something... hmm

if I understand you right, with the 4 cable method you are using this is a normal operation.  By turning the M13 "off" you are bypassing the POD's FX loop so no signal is going into the front of the Mesa, just straight into the FX return.  You will need to have a patch with a FX loop at all times with the M13.

I actually can't imagine why the reverb in the amp wouldn't work with a standard 4CM hookup, because with a regular 4CM hookup you're not really bypassing anything. I am not entirely sure where the reverb is located in the signal chain on the DT amps in relation to the effects loop. I believe it probably comes after the loop, but I'd have to mess around to see. But as long as you have the signal chain correct, there's no reason the amp's reverb shouldn't work.

with a standard 4 cable method and no FX loop in your M13 the signal goes straight through the M13 and into the FX return of the DT, bypassing the entire preamp section of the DT. 

 

So unless the reverb is after the DT's FX loop, it won't work because it has no signal to work on!

 

You must put an FX loop in your M13 for it to work properly with a 4 cable method.

 

A POD is a little different because it has amp sims and you can bypass the DT preamp no problem.  However, if you do, the DT reverb will still have no effect.

OK, I think I figured out what I did wrong.  I had it set to True Bypass.  When I switched it back to DSP Bypass, I picked up the amp's controls (meaning, I guess, i was going through the DT's pre-amp.

 

Well, I learned a lot more about the DT and the M13 this way, and I really appreciate the help of all here.
