p4tt4nz
Hi I got a Helix and when im home i got it on a shelf so it would be great to be able to change presets up and down with my small external footswitch but i cant figure out how to do it. Is it possible?
silverhead
You can’t change presets using an external foot switch. You can do it using an external midi controller.
p4tt4nz
...ok. Unfortunately im to much of a n00b to know the difference. This is the one i got: https://www.thomann.de/se/lead_foot_fs2.htm WIll that work or is it the wrong one?
silverhead
No that won't work. It is not a midi controller. If the term midi is not familiar to you then the answer is No - there is no simple footswitch device that will do what you want.
p4tt4nz
Ok. Thanx i will look into it and try to find a midi controller and try with that.
DunedinDragon
Just be aware, a MIDI controller doesn't just plug in and work. You have to program it to send the codes expected by the Helix. It's not hard, but it is a technical skill you have to learn and be prepared to deal with.
rd2rk
Also, Helix does not have MIDI commands for "Preset Previous/Next). Your MIDI Controller would need to contain the logic "Send Current Preset -1/+1)". You'd also need to be able to send two messages at once to change Setlists - CC#032 + PC# to start at. I THINK that the Morningstar MC series can do these things. But again, programming (they have an editor) and a basic knowledge of MIDI commands is required. p4tt4nz
Ouch that sounds a lot harder than I thought it wold be. Looked at the Morningstar and it cost a lot more than Im ready to pay just to change presets. Thank for the info!
zappazapper
Forgive me, but wouldn't it just be easier to put the Helix on the floor?

Could that be why it’s called the... (wait for it).... Helix Floor?
