jbailes
Has anyone tried this and if so, how did it sound?
cruisinon2
I've tried that thru a million different amps over the years. It'll work...in the sense that sound will come out, but don't expect it to sound too good. Acoustics through any electric guitar amp will never give you a true "acoustic" sound. They just aren't designed to reproduce that wide a range of frequencies. You need either a dedicated acoustic guitar amp, or run it through the a PA. RNRage
Unless you're using the Spider Jam which has a higher range driver in it as well as a 12 inch driver.. I don't think you're going to get an accurate sound.. Not to say that it will sound bad or good.. It just not might sound exactly like an acoustic guitar. That being said, I have run my acoustics through electric guitar amps before.. You can definitely tell that it is an acoustic guitar. I've gotten away with using them before to monitor my sound on stage.. Sending a separate line to FOH.
fflbrgst
I used a Fender CD140sce and an old Epiphone with a Markley soundhole pickup with my Spider IV 75. (Also used the amp for keyboards.) For aocustic, I used a Clean Green setting with just a touch of gain for some volume. Although the sound might not be as 'airy' as with a acoustic amp, it still was an acoustic sound, not a strangled/washy electric sound. jbailes
Thanks for the replys, and you're right. spent the weekend playing my new ovation thru the spider, and I agree. The spider doesn't seem to capture the dynamic range of an acoustic.
fflbrgst
Thanks for the replys, and you're right. spent the weekend playing my new ovation thru the spider, and I agree. The spider doesn't seem to capture the dynamic range of an acoustic. Note that this is typical with ANY amp and a standard undersaddle piezo pickup system. Even my Taylor with ES can't sound exactly the same acoustically and plugged in. There are high-end pickup systems like the Baggs Lyric and K+K mini that do better, and you can also use a high-end preamp-DI box with EQ. The more you spend, the better it sounds! jbailes
What about a dedicated acoustic combo?
cruisinon2
What about a dedicated acoustic combo? That's what they're for...an electric guitar amp will never give you what you're looking for.
fflbrgst
An acoustic amp will give you an uncolored sound (just like a PA system will), but the sound will still be only what your guitar's pickup system is capable of.What guitar do you have/what pickup system do you have? Is this going go to be a solo venture or with a band? At what volume (size of venues)?
jbailes
It's ovation elite, op-pro system. I was eye-balling Marshall's as100d. Good reviews.
Flewelling
Any luck on the acoustic sound? I know there are some custom tones to simulate acoustic, wondering if some of those settings would help? Just a thought...good luck!
