I was trying to switch a line6 badonk for a Solo OD but it doesnt show the amp.

Hi,

When you say - “but it doesnt show the amp”, you actually mean it is visible in the the amp list, but it is “greyed out” and not selectable.

Simple - the preset doesn’t have enough DSP left to load that block. Some amps use far more DSP than others.
For example, the Badonk uses 21.67% and the Solo Lead OD grabs a huge 38.08% of available DSP.

User Ben Vesco (Malhavok) has this reference list:

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thank you, both of you!

Yes, it was indeed greyed out i meant, apologies for the vague explanation.

I just tried with headphones and realised a TRS connection makes for a very thin and broken sound. So much I have to relearn about this digital world.

... and so ... did you successfully swap the amps?

Hi, again,

I’m a little confused by this comment. The Helix headphone connection is a regular 1/4” TRS Stereo Jack Socket. If you are experiencing “very thin and broken sound” I would check the phones you are using.

There are endless lists on here discussing various brands and specifications that people are using successfully.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks a bunch. Really great community here!

Yes, changing the badonk amp for the slo did the trick. DSP and block usage is now something im very aware of.

The headphones are my old Sony MDR-1A and i think the issue is the mic. I have to pull the TRS adaptor just slightly out in order to get decent sounds. If it's all the way in it sounds like using wet effects before a heavily distorted preamp, all mushy and very brittle and thin.

But apart of from that, and just from using stock presets of the SLO og Rhet Shull, holy damn this thing is great.

Now I just need a powercab or Laney LFR go get some "in the room" sound.

Hi,

Well, that’s the problem right there, the wrong type of mini jack - these aren’t really designed to be used with this sort of hardware.

I found this quote about the Sony MDR-1 phones.

While claims they’re made for Hi-Res Audio are potentially misleading – these are fun, rather than totally accurate, headphones”

It continues:

the Audio-Technica ATH-50X still trump them in some respects for less money.”

I have several pairs of headphones of various brands, open, semi and closed back - all for different situations. I have a pair of the ATH-50X that I use quite regularly, and are regarded in some respects as a studio standard. Ideally you need to be listening with some accurate studio reference quality cans with the proper connection. Lots of choices out there - here are some of the most commonly used options?

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks, yeah youre right. It's the connection. But oh well, I'll be purchasing a powercab og laney lfr soon, and until then use Helix as audio interface and run it through my studio monitors. Headphones were just my backup option for late night noodlin.
And then ill have to start trying it with PA in rehearsal once i get a grasp of all the options available.
