Rotary Encoder for HX Stomp / Helix - FOUND!

Hey all,

So this weekend my HX stomp's rotary encoder #2 (of 3) went bad. The switch mechanism either gave out or was crushed internally, not sure. However, it stopped receiving button presses on encoder 2 under the screen. Long story short, I spent hours looking up posts, parts, sites, and came across what seemed like a compatible match. I soldered in the part a few moments ago and it works like OEM! I hope this helps anyone looking for the part.

With ALLL that said, I can't guarantee that his works for the Helix as it does the HX. I've taken apart both units a few times for maintenance, however I just can't recall what was in the Helix Floor. Likely the same part.

Here's the info:

It might be a stretch (and I know this is an old post), any idea if that part works for the other type of rotary encoder on the HX series (the one with a detent feel to it)?  Obviously that changes the feel but if functionality is the same, that might help me with a jam I'm in with my out of warranty HX Effects's "Big Knob" no longer working consistently...

I'd ask customer support about details of that encoder pot. Or contact a support center and let them repair it.

Well, having all sorts of troubles with the Helix Floor encoders now. I'm going to take this behemoth apart and swap out the encoders for the stock I purchased when the HX Stomp encoder went bad. I'll report back soon!

Hey all,

Following up here. I went ahead and ordered another bunch of encoders from Digikey to complete a swap of all 6 screen encoders. Man, not only do they work perfectly, but they feel good too. A little stiffer/tighter turn, which makes dialing into a value with precision just right. The buttons on the encoders work perfectly too. The press and hold on the older encoders were crapping out as well too. I'm glad these worked out.

Anyway, these are Bourns encoders, so I'm hoping that these will last longer than 5 or 6 years that the original ones did.

Another thing I'm noticing is the GUI is a bit snappier. I have a feeling that because the old encoders might've been failing, and it might have had an effect on how the GUI was responding. Tuner was slow to open, taking upwards of 15 seconds of holding. The effect block menu was slow to scroll and laggy. Still not as fast as the HX Stomp though. Lots of oddities in the past year or so, maybe longer.

I'll report back if anything odd happens with this round of encoders.

J
