magillver
Good morning! I'm new to the Variax world, just bought a used 600 from my local guitar shop, picked up all of the various bits and pieces on line, have managed to connect to the guitar with the original Work Bench software, and have begun noodling with modeling. My question is this: is there a way to blend acoustic tones with electric (magnetic) tones in the first gen Variaxes? The 'acoustic' bodies won't allow me to add pickups, and the 'electric' bodies don't have an acoustic option...any thoughts? Thanks!

magillver
Is there a longer answer? Do you know if this would be viable with the 2nd gen of Variaxes with actual magnetic pickups?
silverhead
Longer answer - ‘No, not possible’. ;-) I don’t know the technical details as to why you can’t add pickups to an acoustic body in Variax Workbench. Perhaps it’s just a design decision, not a technical one. The modeling is based on emulating real guitars, and none of the real acoustic guitars being modeled have electric guitar pickups. As you say, the newer Variax models (JTV and later) include mag pickups. Workbench HD includes an option to blend the modeled tone with the onboard mags. However, I’m not sure whether or not this option exists with acoustic models. Don’t see why not. I may have a chance to test that out later today. If so, and if still relevant, I will post the result.
