How do I record PC audio with HX stomp

Hey there,

Recently got an HX stomp.
I am trying to work out how I can record PC audio (windows 11) to my DAW (reaper) - and am absolutely stumped.

For instance if I play youtube audio, it plays through the main l/r audio output (USB 1/2) but there is no way to select this audio as an input device - and I can't find a way to reroute to a USB input stereo channel.

Surely this should be possible - I've never had this before with other external audio interfaces.

I expect this restriction (no recording from PC audio) is in place due to copyright protection. For instance, does YouTube, or Spotify, or Apple Music give you permission to copy their streaming? I ask sincerely …. I don’t know since I’ve never considered it. I’d be surprised if it does.

Hi,

I’m not sure why you think you need to record the PC audio via your HX Stomp directly into Reaper. Generally people would rip the audio to their PC and then load the resulting (mp3) file into the DAW to use as a backing track.

Take note of the comment above from @silverhead regarding copyright issues. There are lots of options to allow you to record the audio being streamed through your computer - it’s not a secret, just Google Audacity - be aware, the copyright caveat still stands, you may be stealing someone else’s work.

Note:

Downloading and converting videos without the permission of the content creator is against YouTube’s terms of service.
- Downloading videos may also be subject to local or national copyright laws.
- Whether it’s a film, a song, or a podcast, it is advised to check whether the copyright holder allows downloads from YouTube.
- It also makes sense to cite the original or source, if you are reusing this audio for commercial purposes.

In fact if you are simply wanting backing tracks to practice, or jam along with, there are many of them freely available as stereo, or multitrack stems with the guitar part missing for you to add your own. Load them into Reaper - done!

Hope this helps/makes sense.

In Windows Sound Panel select the computer's sound card as the default playback device.

In HXS Global Settings>Ins/Outs set the RETURN TYPE to Aux In.

Take a stereo out from your computer to Returns L and R.

In Reaper set the Input for your Streaming Track to 7/8.

Set your Guitar Track to 1/2.

Record Arm both tracks.

Record.
