Practicing with my iPhone

I practice with apps on my iPhone. I just bought a new Helix floor in April and can't figure out how to run my iPhone through it.

In my old POD HD500xl there was an input. Not so with Helix. I've tried the AUX in but all the effects are added on top. I tried the returns but nothing sounds.  Please help. Tired of double headphones!

The Helix does not have an input for any audio device like IPhones, drum machines, keyboards, etc for you to play along with. I think silverhead's idea will only work for a mono source. If you want stereo, you need to use two return blocks either at the very end of your patch or on a different path. You would then need to have some kind of cable that will split the audio coming from the IPhone to two 1/4" plugs in order to plug them into the returns. If the returns do not sound then there is something wrong with hwoyou have your setup. The blocks do have two settings, instrument and line. If you are not getting anything from the blocks, and you're on the line setting, switch it to mic. That may work. Really the easiest way is to get a cheap mixer and put your devices into that then take the output of the mixer to your monitors. This would work

The output is TRS so you may need some adapters for this particular one to work

If you have an iPhone with Lightning port (old gen) you can buy a lightning to USB AV adapter, and plug the Helix directly in that USB adapter going into iPhone. You will get USB audio from the iPhone passing through Helix USB channels 1 and 2 because iOS will see the Helix as a compliant USB Audio Interface and it will accept bidirectional USB audio through it. The audio stream in the USB channel 1/2 will be unaffected by the Helix effects, so it will be perfect for your purpose.

If you have a new iPhone, with USB C port, you only need a USB A (female) to USB C (male) adapter, and do the same thing as the above.

I've been working out with my iPhone for a while now and I love it! However, I noticed that my device started to slow down a bit. To avoid getting stuck, I found this handy guide on how to speed up your iPhone. Trust me, it's worth reading https://setapp.com/how-to/speed-up-iphone My phone works much better now and I can focus on hitting the right notes rather than struggling with slow response times. Try it and keep downloading!

Update the firmware. Make sure your Helix firmware is up to date with the latest features and bug fixes.
Also check the input/output levels to prevent problems with clipping or low volume. Refer to Helix and iPhone app manuals for specific settings and troubleshooting tips. And I think using your iPhone for practice is a great idea! To make the most of your device, it's essential to keep it optimized and free of unnecessary apps. This not only frees up space but also improves performance, especially when using music apps. If you're unsure how to remove apps properly, check out this guide https://nektony.com/how-to/delete-apps-on-iphone which I read recently. It explains everything you need to know, step-by-step. Keep your iPhone streamlined, and enjoy your practice sessions!
