HI there fellow Helix users,

Upgraded from the PODHD500 which I am selling pulled the trigger on a new helix LT. Need some helpful advice to update from version 3.11.0 to version 3.61 is it best to update every version in between 3.1 to 3.61 so I don't miss out on the amps, cabs, effects and bug fixes etc or do I just update the latest version and everything would be included?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Just do it!

i don’t know how you could have FOMO!

What you could you possibly be missing out on?

Every firmware update fixes bugs and adds extra features. New stuff is added all the time, never taken away. Follow the instructions for how to update and away you go. Have fun!

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi Gents,

registered the Helix LT got to the software download section. My computer is Windows 11 read somewhere that Helix is compatible with windows 11 which is great. When clicking on the download window for OS there is no windows 11 option. Plenty of other options Windows 10 / 2000 etc.  Not sure what to click on here in the event I get the wrong software?

Any help with this one?

Cheers

Hi,

Yes, simply select Windows 10, then click “Go”. On the next page you can see that Windows 11 is listed in the compatible versions. Ideally it should list Window 10 and above, similarly the Mac OS is a mess too.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks, datacommando for the quick reply yes tried it and your spot on. Connected the USB & Power cable from the Helix to the Computer and opened the line 6 updater and loaded credentials which I downloaded earlier. Powered up the Helix then pressed to connect on the line 6 updater, and it can't seem to find the Helix. Just Keeps coming up as Select device to update? Wondering maybe too many updates for it to recognize doing it this way?

Try downloading HX Edit and update it from that. I think the updater doesn't work for later firmware versions or at least works better. That's my recolleciton anyway and I'm too lazy to look it up. (I just came from another thread that recommends using the updater for updates and not HX Edit so not sure what else you can do). The other thing would be don't use a USB hub to connect your Helix to you computer. Hope this helps.

Thanks Silverhead & Brue58Ski

Haven't downloaded the HX Edit yet as I was following a you tuber and Titled You got a new line 6 Helix now what do you do? but he was updating from an earlier version 2.3 to a 2.71 version. I read somewhere that there was a couple of steps if your updating from 3.11 or so to the current version so maybe I need to check it out on the website downloads.

Hi,

Ideally you should go to the DOWNLOADS section of the Menu above, and from under Hardware select your LT, from Software select HX Edit, the from OS, select Windows then, click "GO".

From the next page you can download the latest version of HX Edit for your computer. Install, HX Edit, which should also install the drivers necessary for your computer. When completed, restart your computer and connect your LT via USB and launch HX Edit which should connect to your hardware. When it detects your Helix it should then inform you that a new firmware update is available and then take you through the process of updating the firmware.

You should only require the Line 6 Updater if you have suffered a failure to install correctly - above all - DO NOT PANIC! Should that happen go to this link and follow the instructions TO THE LETTER (other than it was written for v3.50) any references to version number need to be the most recent.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hey datacommando

Wow there is heaps of info here to get stuck into thanks for your help. The anticipation to start playing is tough enough had to connect and play the factory presets with ought the upgrade versions before your last post still sounded sweet. Had purchased a Moore Ge300 a couple of years ago probably more for the synth engine really as the band I play in is 4-piece 2 guitars bass and drums, and we needed some synth sounds. While the synth sounds are ok the overdrive / amps and cabs are very thin and don't sound that great. Playing live got lost in the mix tried everything 4 cable method / Direct to input of amp / effects loop return only / Headrush 12" FRFR.

The Helix on the other hand even though i have version 3.11 and haven't been able to succeed in the updates yet it still has better definition / clarity / more natural, I guess.

Going to try updates again to get all those extras and using latest info and see what happens. I guess I can always do updates on my original laptop which has windows 10 but is clogged up with stuff, not much storage space left on that one and the scroll pad is a bit dodgy. Fingers crossed keep everyone in the loop.

Appreciate everyone's help.

On the road again Yoo hoo updated to 3.6 now as suggested by datacommando and also prompted by HX Edit after the download.

  • Factory reset your device by power cycling while holding footswitches 9 and 10 (bottom row, 2 middle footswitches).

Going to do it even though I haven't created or saved patches yet.

Happy Days

Hi Gents

Is it worth trying to upgrade from 3.6 to 3.61? dint get any notifications on HX Edit. Not sure if it's worth trying to update now or wait as some users have experienced issues trying to save and import patches?

Hi,

Version 3.61 is only an update to HX Edit, it is not a firmware update. It was released to fix some issues, mainly with newer Mac models, but it also fixes some minor bugs in Windows systems.

The HX Edit update is recommended for all users.

From “DOWNLOADS” in the menu above, select HXEdit from the “Choose Software” option, then your OS from the “Choose OS”, click “Go” and read the Release Notes and then download and install the latest version.

Hope this help/makes sense.
