ledvedder5150
I had some annoying issues at a gig last night with my HX Stomp XL. First of all, the graphics are so small, it's almost impossible to see. I also kept switching on and off the wrong snapshots and effects because of how close the buttons are. And last but not least, I have the Mission SP1-L6 pedal, set up to control wah. I had it working at home to switch on and off via the switch, and position set to expression 1. Somehow, at some point in the gig, the position stopped working. Meaning, the wah would engage with the toe switch, but rocking the pedal wouldn't sweep the wah through its range. And I couldn't figure out how to fix it on the fly. Very frustrating!
silverhead
Re: screen size and switch spacing. It is what it is. If either one is a show stopper you bought the wrong device and need a different one. Re: pedal performance, Have you been able to get it working again? If so, take some time now to figure out how to fix it on the fly. 1

If you didn't accidentally change something in your Global Settings, the procedure when POSITION doesn't work is as follows (Page 48 in the version of the manual that I have) after selecting the WAH Block: 1. From Stomp mode, press and hold the knob for the parameter you wish to control. **That's POSITION in your case, Knob 1. HX Stomp XL jumps to the Controller Assign page and displays your parameter at Knob 1 (Parameter) **That's POSITION in your case. 2. Press PAGE and then press Knob 3 (Learn). The button’s brain icon glows blue. 3. Step on a footswitch, move a connected expression pedal, send a MIDI CC message from your external MIDI controller device, computer software, etc. The controller you selected is “Learned” and assigned. NOTE: To manually select a controller, turn Knob 2 (Controller). That's the same procedure as my HXS. I just turn knob 2. If the above is not the issue, check your cables. I can't think of much else that can go wrong, but TBH, I've had the problem myself, usually when I'm winging around trying a bunch of different things, never just out of the blue. If it happens again after you get it working, try to remember what you were doing just prior to the fail. It might have happened to me when I have the SP1 assigned to different FX parameters in different Snapshots. That's just spitballing though and would most likely have been my own error in setting up the snapshots..
amsdenj
I don't rely on being able to see the display to know what snapshot I'm in or what blocks are bypassed, the foot switch lights are enough. Same for HX Stomp and Helix floor. Then I setup all patches using the same general foot switch layout, so that I know pretty much what a foot switch will do in any patch. For example, the drives and modulation might be different in a patch, but the same foot switches will control them in most patches. Then I actually practice against backing tracks to simulate gig mode to make sure I can get to the right tone at the right time while singing. This often involves pickup changes on the guitar and changing the guitar volume (which I do a lot). I consider this part of playing my instrument and practice these moves too. And of course it's different for different guitars, have to practice that too. 1
