a3d3
Brand new Helix user here, though i have been using Line 6 pedals for many years starting with the POD XT Live about 20+ years ago.... Sorry if this has already been addressed ad nauseum. I did a search but could find no info. I bought a Helix Floor two days ago and have been trying to edit/create patches using HX Edit and the Helix keeps freezing up during simple operations and the only option is to power it down and restart it. When it happends, HX Edit says "Lost Connection" and when i click "reconnect" it says it can find no qualifying prodcts connected. I am connecting by USB to Windows 10 and have the latest Helix firmware update which i just did this morning. I have about 50 patches I need to edit so I can use the Helix live and it really takes a lot of time to have to stop and restart every time it crashes. Thanks for any advice.... cruisinon2
If you're using a USB hub, get rid of it and connect Helix to your computer directly...the hubs tend to cause problems.
a3d3
No hubs here. it is connected directly to the computer. Thanks for responding.
silverhead
Are you using the latest versions of HX Edit (v3.70) and Helix firmware (v3.71)? When running the HX Edit update package did you also install all drivers?

Hi, You said that you are using a Windows 10 PC, and no hub is involved. Are you aware that on some PCs the front USB ports can behave like a hub and it is recommended that you connect to a USB slot on the rear of the machine. This rear port is most likely mounted directly to the board and is probably a more stable connection. Also, (more USB voodoo), just because the USB cable you're using works with your printer (or whatever) doesn't necessarily make it suitable to hookup to your Helix. Check all your cables if you are suffering drop out. This place is full of threads regarding flakey USB. Other than that, follow the advice from @silverhead above, and ensure both HX Edit and the firmware are the latest versions. Hope this helps/makes sense. 1
a3d3
All most current versions of Helix and HX Edit as of yesterday. Helix: 3.71. HX Edit: 3.70. I used Line 6 Updater which came with HX Edit I believe. I was not prompted to update any drivers however.
a3d3
Oh wow thanks Datacommando... it is connected to the front USB port on my PC. I had not considered that. I will move it to one of the back ports and see if that helps.
a3d3
It's still early but it has not crashed since I moved the USB from the front port to the back and I have edited/created about 15 patches so maybe that was the trouble. Thanks again Datacommando!
SaschaFranck
Fwiw, it's quite amazing how companies still can't get the USB thing right in 2024. I mean, I should be able to run the HX series devices through a USB hub (fortunately, at least for me it seems to be possible with the two hubs I'm regularly using with an M3 Macbook Air) - and still, it isn't. I also should be able to use pretty much any USB cable - and still, I can't. I don't know how many USB cables I've thrown away through the years, either because they were simply not delivering the full specs from the start or because they got all dodgy after a short while (micro USB cables have been notoriously bad in that aspect). Must be like hundreds by now. At the same time, I'm using 1-2 guitar cables regularly since 25 years already. Really, it's shocking.

All they have to do is pipe 1's and 0's from one end to the other. Shouldn't be that hard. And like you, I've still got several 1/4" cables that I've had since college that work just fine. I only know because they're emblazoned with the House of Guitars logo (Rochester, NY) which I'm amazed is still legible after all this time, well over 30 years ago at this point. Wow...what a depressing realization that is. ;)
