From any preset, quickly switch to specific preset, then switch back

I have a specific preset I want to be able to quickly switch to, at any time and from any preset, then quickly switch back to the preset I was on previously. Is there a way to do that?

TMDR: I use lots of different presets at a gig. My band has no vocals. For talking to the crowd, instead of dragging a PA to the gig, I want to just plug a mic into the Helix, and use a specific preset just for that, containing reverb and EQ. I need to be able to quickly switch to that preset at any time.

From the Helix manual pg 60:

HX Preset
The HX Preset command allows you to configure a Stomp mode footswitch to imme-
diately “jump to” any other preset within the current setlist.
1. From the Command Center page, select a footswitch and turn
Knob 1 (Command) to “HX Preset.”
2. Turn Knob 2 (Preset) to “Next,” “Previous,” or choose a specific
preset number (01A~32D).
HX Preset
Knob Parameter Description
2 Preset
Sets the preset to be selected by the command: Next, Previ-
ous, or a preset’s number (01A~32D), which resides within
the current setlist.

Use this in every preset other than your vocal preset to use a footswitch to invoke the vocal preset. Not sure how you get back to the preset you were previously on. (Note: The reference to Previous above means the previous number of the presets in the bank arrangement, not the last preset).

No.

You could make a preset template with a FS that went to your "Talk" preset, but there's no way to store the current preset # for the return trip.

PREV and NEXT only move to the previous or next preset in the setlist.

There are MIDI controllers that can do that, just not Helix.

No. Without an external MIDI switcher the best I see is:

  • Set up a footswitch in every preset you use to jump to the mic preset.
  • In the mic preset set up some foot switches to jump to the presets you need afterwards.

or

  • Each preset that you might need to jump to a mic preset gets it's own 'partner' mic preset.
  • In that 'partner' mic preset set up one foot switch to jump back to the original preset.

or

  • Set up a path for the mic in each preset.
  • Thanks 1
