I Want To Edit Amp B But Can't Hear That Model

I'm using the dream rig setup with an older Variax. I have the POD 500X edit program open and I'm setting up patches.

 

When I edit a patch with two Amp models, I run into a problem.

 

I can turn off Amp B and just listen to Amp A so I can set it up the way I want it. But then if I turn off Amp A and turn on Amp B so I can edit it, I can't hear it. All I seem to hear is whatever amp model is set up in my DT25 topology. I can turn the knobs in the 500X edit program and it makes no difference - all I hear is the amp.

 

The only solution I've found is to turn Amp A's volume right down so all I can hear is Amp B.

 

Is this happening for anyone else? Any solutions?

Think of amp A slot as being the primary amp model that the patch is based on. The pod amp models only work on Channel A of your DT. If you turn off the primary amp model, your DT will default to channel B. So amp A needs to stay on.

 

To listen to amp B, turn down the volume on amp A.

 

That works well for me. If you were using two separate Fender Twins, you wouldn't necessarily completely turn off one amp to adjust the other. It'd be easier and less taxing on the amp and tubes to just turn down the volume on one to adjust the other.

 

A quick way to do this is to set  exp 1 to control the volume of amp A and exp 2 to control the volume of amp B. Tweak and blend them with the exp pedals hit save. Then remove the exp controls if you would like to use them for something else. 

 

If you don't have the extra exp pedal, assign  amp A to the JTV volume knob and amp B to the tone knob. Repeat

+1 to Tboneous.  For additional consideration, remember there is only one physical analog power section in your amp.  It has to get its configuration info from somewhere and that is ALWAYS going to be the amp model in channel A when connected to the POD by L6 link.  If the amp model in channel A is turned off, the DT automatically defaults to it's own internal channel B amp model. 

 

Also remember that with a dual amp patch no matter what amp model you have in channel B, the analog power section is still controlled by and linked to the amp in channel A.  If you want to run them both together and blended that is no problem.  If you want to be able to switch between amp models within the same patch, the best way I found is to put a volume pedal in each path set to zero.  With the pedal off the signal passes and when turned on it is muted.  This can allow you to use either amp or both but no matter what, the power section will remain tied to the model in channel A so if there is a specific configuration you like, put that one in channel A.

I just obtained a Line 6 expression pedal to use w/ a POD HD 500, having 2 physical pedals available for use. My original reasoning was one pedal for volume and one pedal for wah.

 

Here this dual amp volume control solution is another good use for 2 expression pedals, one that I will probably put to use.
