Stomp XL - configuring single switch toggle between two blocks

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with the LED ring and display behavior when setting up an A/B toggle between two delay blocks on my HX Stomp XL using HX Edit.

The Goal: Assign Footswitch 4 to alternate between Simple Delay and Vintage Digital.

When Simple Delay is active/ON, I want the FS4 LED ring and display label to be bright green.

  • When toggled to Vintage Digital, I want the LED ring to dim, and the label to read Simple/Vintage.

The Issue: The visual state on the hardware is stuck completely in reverse. Even though Simple Delay is ON (active) and Vintage Digital is OFF (bypassed), FS4 lights up dimmed for Simple Delay and bright green when toggled over to Vintage Digital. The audio toggles as expected, but the LED/display logic is inverted.

What I’ve already tried without success:

  1. Re-linking order: Unlinking both blocks (setting Source to None), saving, turning Simple Delay ON and Vintage Digital OFF, then re-assigning Simple Delay to FS4 first and Vintage Digital second.

  2. Explicit LED Overrides: Trying to set Switch LED manually instead of Auto Color (which updates globally across all blocks assigned to that switch).

  3. Capacitive Touch / Focus: Touching FS4 on the hardware while in Stomp mode to try and shift primary focus to Simple Delay before saving.

  4. Preset Saves: Saving the preset (Ctrl + S) explicitly while Simple Delay is engaged and bright in the signal chain.

Regardless of the re-linking order or saved preset state, the Stomp XL insists on tying the "bright/active" LED state to Vintage Digital instead of Simple Delay.

Has anyone encountered this specific bug or hardware focus quirk with multi-assign A/B toggles? Is there a hidden trick or setting to force the LED master focus back to the primary block?

Thanks in advance for any advice!  -Ryan

Messed with this on my HXS.

It appears that the NAME and COLOR are linked to the FS itself. Using a FS to toggle FX you get a choice of DIM or BRIGHT and one name.

That's it.

I also tried using a snapshot, but the color and name always reflect that of the destination snapshot, not the current snapshot.

You could name them opposite of what they are - the Simple Delay snapshot named Vintage Delay and vice versa, which would get the labels right (current effect), but you still need to use two colors - you can't get the same color DIM/BRIGHT.

EDIT - the way I get around this is to use a toggling FS with the label as either/or - VINTAGE/SIMPLE - Vintage would be DIM/SIMPLE would be LIT. You're still stuck with one color though.

If I can just remember it when I look down - The footswitch block on the display is dim but Simple is on, and Vintage is off.  Then it flips when I want to use the other one so the display is lit bright green when Simple is OFF and Vintage is ON.   That's exactly backwards of how I'd like to be.   But if I can remember that I'll be ok.  I'm just afraid that I'll forget the display is backwards of what I'm actually hearing, when I'm playing live.  :)

You can easily invert that. Just activate the block you want on the "lightning" state manually and deactivate the other (not using the switch). That'll flip the on/off and the light status.

That should be just one touch on FS4 away from the desired behavior.  With touch you select which of the blocks the FS4 led-ring represents (primarily). When you save the preset like that it is recalled "correctly" the next time - at least on my Stomp where I did a short test.

Thanks all,  should i be looking in Play (Stomp) mode or Edit Mode?  I also have those Mooer Shroom topper heads on all my Footswitch so how light do I need to touch?  Maybe I just need to pop FS4's topper off temporarily so I can execute the touch.

The footswitches are capacitive touch-sensitive which means it detects small electrical discharge currents that occur when your body physically makes contact with the metal. The Mooer toppers probably aren't conductive but you can still touch any metal part of the footswitch from the side.

Global Settings > Footswitches > Stomp Select must be set to Touch or Both for this to work.

In Stomp Mode you can directly see which block is selected.

I just gently popped off the Mooer topper and performed the touch (I had Stomp Select turned off) and it worked great.   The Simple Delay block is lit by default now - since that's the one I use most of the time any way as 'always on' then when the block is dim it's the Vintage Digital with Tap Tempo.   Works great, backed up the preset and created a whole new system backup and I'm good to go

Thanks for all your help everyone - I'm not as well versed in the Touch features as i should be.  Thanks again all!  -ryan
