davsuro
What is the 'best' floor pedal unit to control my JTV59? I need to change models/tunings during songs. What are the options? Price range? Am I restricted to only using the top of the range POD unit?
silverhead
You are definitely restricted to Line 6 devices that have the VDI connection. Wanting a floor model restricts you further, eliminating the 'Pro' devices. The current 'best' floor model being manufactured is the HD500X. It's predecessor the HD500 is identical in terms of features but has less DSP capacity; it is available on the used market. Earlier models such as the Pod X3 Live and the Pod xt Live also support changing models (but not alternate tunings) on the JTV. With these models you would need to use Workbench in advance to create the desired alternate tuning and then load the preset into the JTV device, to be recalled on demand by the Pod. As for price.... Google and eBay are your friends.
davsuro
Many thanks for the prompt reply, can you explain the loss of the "pro" devices? I need something I can use on stage so I thought my only option was the "stompt box", if you mean rack mounted then I assume I need select by hand? This defeats my objective of being able to change on-the-fly mid-song. Looking at the HD500X, it seems the most suitable option. Thanks again. ColonelForbin
Sweetwater doing a $150 rebate until end of September on the older model HD500; they are selling it 'new' for $350 for the next three days http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PODHD500
thorneven
I use a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI pedal to control both amp (Line6 Vetta 2) and JTV59 presets. I have my amp programmed so that it forwards MIDI messages to the guitar. This way a MIDI pedal preset can change guitar settings too (e.g. a preset tells the guitar to select an acoustic guitar). IIRC, the amp can select presets only from the Custom 1 and Custom 2 banks in the guitar though.

Thorneven did you mean you're changing Vetta II patches via MIDI, and these patches have the JTV models saved within them? (hence, the Vetta changes the variax models, and not the Beringer pedal?). Or are you sending MIDI messages from the Behringer pedal, that are specific to the Variax? Thanks in advance!
