  1. That's sleep mode. Always unplug. Don't rely on having your volume turn down. That's just if you want to save energy for a short period, not something you can rely on to save power through the night.
  2. That's really strange. I had my 600 say it messed up an update but the firmware seemed fine and everything worked properly. Running Monkey again said the firmware was on there just fine. What did you use to connect to the computer?
  3. Well, I've stated that my 600 crosstalks as well. It's not Line 6's fault, it's just physics. You palm mute and make a bridge for vibrations to travel from one saddle to the other, you're gonna get crosstalk. There is no technology that could ever stop that. The best you can do it get a guitar that was set up the best to reduce this problem. Like I said, my new JTV seems a bit better, and the crosstalk is virtually unnoticeable unless you concentrate on hearing it out. It sounds more like mild warble now, than 2 notes playing at the same time out of harmony, so it's fine.

    Firmware 2.6

I hope the 5150 is great. I've been using the Treadplate for 5150-esque tones, so I'd expect an actual model based on the 5150 to do the job better. Would be great for some In Flames.
  5. I'd still like the ability to disable loop in VIEW settings so assigning MIDI to it can actually have a point.
  6. Hey hey hey, it's not even April 1st yet when you posted that, unless you're European.
  7. Some people prefer using really short cables so they don't have cable audio degradation. I assume this is because it's unbalanced, right? Either way, It would be nice if there was cable simulation I suppose, but you can always try to mess with EQ filters before the amp stage.
  8. VDI doesn't change the tone, the 1/4 cable does. VDI is the exact signal that the Variax is making. The 1/4 cable will add whatever a guitar cable does, coloring the tone. You also have to take into consideration that with 1/4 you're going through a Digital-to-Analog conversion which can affect the sound as well.
  9. Not using a cabinet/sim will always sound like garbage. A cabinet will shapen up the sound and round out the highs to give it a sweet mid range based tone. Distortion is basically clipping, and clipping cuts off the high points of the input, giving it a harsh sound. Unless you like going deaf, always using a cabinet simulator. An impulse response loader will work the best.
  10. The modeling isn't going to be perfect. It's a piezo pickup using algorithms and impulse responses to emulate the frequency response of said emulated guitars' pickups and bodies. With that said, it's very close, but there will be a little nuances off that you will have to compensate with through amp settings.
  11. Because 5 bands of EQ and a low and high cut filter in 1 EQ section is better than an a 2 band EQ effect that's not very adjustable is susceptible to clipping.
  12. Yeah? Did you read the part where I don't really like them though? The Global EQ seems more well designed. EQ bands with low and high cut.
  13. While it is a global EQ, would be nice to save the settings on a patch by patch basis. Just because it's global doesn't mean patches can't apply the values to the EQ variables. EQ is going to help clean up your tone. Sometimes while I think the HD sounds great, it doesn't always cut through the best and I'm not the biggest fan of their EQ effect options. I have to use like 2 or 3 of them just to shape up the tone right. Any news on when the Firmware is coming now?
  14. Turning the E and A strings down a decibel seemed to help a little, still a little noisy, but it's not audible when I'm playing a note.
  15. Hello. I had my JTV for a bit and I've noticed that there's a lot of noise when I use a decent gain amp setting when resting my hands on the strings or using the tremolo. Is this normal?
  16. I like my JTV a lot, but it seems more mechanically noisy than my 600.
  17. Protools, that's the DAW that can't use VSTs right? Mind boggling how it could even be considered professional when it doesn't support an essential extension like VST. It's like trying to build a computer without putting the power supply in. I use stuff like Amplitube, Guitar Rig, and Lepou amps. Usually does the job for me. Revalver might be a good choice too, but I quickly lost interest in Revalver 4 as it seemed more like hype than an actual improvement. The "tone cloning" thing seems more like a gimmick than something actually usable.
  18. Like I said, it would fix most digital input problems, but any audio problems caused before it hits the DSP can't be fixed. Usually if you get a guitar with quacking or plinking problems, you'd be best to exchange for another guitar. This is where dials for the analogue preamp would come in handy, either that, or Line 6 needs to QC their piezos better.
  19. Global String volume works as a digital preamp, so if you lower that, any sound issue that's caused by having the digital input being too strong can be fixed with that. It's how I fixed strange quacking noises on my Variax 600 on alternate tunings.
  20. Yeah, I just try to stick with 2.10 and adjust to it. There's stuff on 1.90 I miss. Some of the way the guitar reacts in 1.90 seems better than 2.10. 2.10 doesn't seem as polished as the past gen Variax firmware, but a lot of it sounds good. I noticed that a lot of nuances programmed into the guitars are gone. The HD firmware seems to focus more on getting more pristine sounding modeling more than anything.
  21. If there was, it could probably end all problems with oversensitive piezos.
  22. Forgot, when you use contact cleaner in the switch. Toggle it back and forth for a bit.
  23. I blasted some contact cleaner in my 600 and it killed the problem just like that. Use just a little so you don't spray into any of the other electronics. I don't think contact cleaner getting into the pots is a good thing.
  24. Speaking of noise, I'm noticing the JTV picks up mechanical noise a lot more than my 600. A noise gate helps get rid of. Must be the piezos. The upside of the piezos is that using the whammy bar doesn't have a volume drop, maybe because the the piezo elements have more of a rounded pill shape to allow the string to always sit against it regardless of the angle of the bridge.
