    Helix FAQ

This surprises me somewhat, given the popularity of Line 6 with metal players, and the popularity of modelers in general with players in cover bands, where quick detunes are frequently necessary (usually necessitating multiple guitars.) Maybe my affinity for old Black Sabbath LP's has me a little biased here. Anyway, I'll get it on IdeaScale - votes don't lie. :) Of course I have no idea what kind of investment would be required to develop this effect, so it may be a moot point anyway.

Yeah, I said the very same thing in my original post on this topic. Still had to ask, though. :)

Bummer. Any hope of its being considered in future? Worth adding to IdeaScale?

    Helix FAQ

Posted this in another thread, but that thread "Helix Effects" is dropping like a rock. Briefly this time: will any of the pitch-shifting effects in Helix be of high enough quality to do full guitar detune/ capo settings a la EHX Pitchfork, Droptune, etc? This is something I used a lot in my Kemper, and I would think the Helix would have enough processing power to do the same.

    Helix FAQ

Hard to make a looper "all things to everyone". One simple way to keep things flexible, extensible, specific to one's individual preferences, is to allow for multiple instances of the looper block in any given patch/preset. Consider voting for the idea on IdeaScale: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Multiple-Looper-effect-blocks-for-Helix/741138-23508

    Helix FAQ

Consider voting for the "global signal path" request on IdeaScale. This would allow you to set up returns once and have that routing apply to all of your tones. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Optional-Global-signal-path/741927-23508
  7. And it's worth emphasizing again that the Helix is significantly more affordable than a Fractal or even Kemper rig once you account for a footcontroller with even half this functionality.
  8. Yeah, this is a biggie. I can't call it go/no-go, as I've already gone. :) But the Kemper really spoiled me in this regard - they put a lot of work into the pitch-shifting on the KPA, with formant controls and a "smooth chord" setting (probably some kind of harmonic compensation), and so on. With all of the CPU power on tap in the Helix, I would hope it could do the same, but I worry that Line 6 might neglect this functionality as it overlaps with alternate tunings via Variax. Kind of a confilict of interest for the marketing department. :) Anyway, if we get a "no" on this I'll put it up on IdeaScale and hope for an eventual f/w update...
  9. By whom? Because as far as I'm aware, Line 6 hasn't committed to that.

I just hope the switches aren't too loud. The switch on the TC Electronics Ditto looper is about the perfect mechanical switch IMO - tactile feedback without so much "click" as to bleed into mics or otherwise distract from the music. (The Native Instruments RK3 has the worst switches of all time in this regard.)
  11. Regarding the pitch shift effects: are any of these clean enough to use for drop-tune/ virtual capo set ups, or are they just suited for whammy pedal/ harmonizer effects? I used the chromatic shifter in my Kemper quite a bit when I had to play detuned stuff (old Sabbath or whatever) on a guitar in standard tuning. Will the Helix be able to the same, or am I going to need an EHX Pitchfork or equivalent off the back? Thanks!
  12. From all I've heard read, the Yamaha DXR10 is a sweet-spot in terms of tone, price, and portability. That's next on my list. If money were no object, I'd be looking at a CLR Neo wedge. But for me, money is always an object... There will also be times, I imagine, when I'll prefer a little power amp (maybe an EHX Magnum 44 will do) and a traditional 1x12" cab.
  13. This is totally awesome. Thanks for the thorough reply, Phil.
  14. This was a make-or-break requirement for me, so if CipherHost's assumptions are inaccurate, please let us know! Thanks!
  15. I'll concede the Helix sounds better than the HD, but again, what is the deal with this "plexi" tone? It must sound vastly different in the room than it does in these videos because it's got to be the last sound in the world I would choose to demo an amp modeler. Too much drive, too much midrange... it just doesn't tell me anything about the Helix amp modeling. I could patch almost anything in my basement together and get that tone (excepting, perhaps, some good stuff going on just after the 20 second mark.) Please, for the love of all things holy, TURN THE KNOB. People use modeling rigs for the versatility. We don't need to hear that preset again.

:) It's going to be a long summer.
  17. Thank you, DI. You have no idea how refreshing it is to float a (relatively outside) idea like that and have a product manager say "cool idea", rather than "huh?" or "no way." Even if the idea never gets implemented, there's tremendous value in this.
  18. Global signal path for send/return, and effects trails through patch changes: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Optional-Global-signal-path/741927-23508

    Helix FAQ

Agreed. Ultimately, only the Line 6 devs know whether there's enough power under the hood to do what I'm describing without compromising the system as it's already architected.

It would be even better if you could set up a Global signal path (with, for instance, delay and reverb), then use Send and Return blocks in each preset, all within the Helix itself. A man can dream... Maybe I'll throw it up on IdeaScale.
  21. For what it's worth, I'll never tire of hearing about the great UI - it's equally exciting to me. But I'm already sold on that! As for the amp tones, I haven't heard anything very compelling yet. I'm banking on the fact that the Helix will be a great multi-effects pedal and controller (by virtue of that UI) but I'll be REALLY excited if the amp models are on par with recent competition as well. That driven "Plexi" tone that turns up in every single demo video does nothing for me, personally. It just sounds like a ton of mid-range. I need to hear some clips that really call out the character of the amps - kill the effects for a minute and let's hear whatever detail, chime, dimension (and other nearly useless words LOL) the Helix is capable of! :)
  22. Amp tones amp tones amp tones. The UI is astounding, we got that. Now turn the dial!
