Good lordy there's some children on this thread too! Doing a police tribute I'll try to get the sounds as close as possible, I do use a Telecaster but I also have a Epiphone custom Les Paul with coil split pickups that sounds amazing on this stuff. Andy did have quite a custom guitar, and obviously that affects the sound, but you would be surprised how close you can get with some good tweaking and research
-
I play in a police tribute band called The Heat, and I use the Helix with snapshots exclusively. I have a patch for every song and with a little research and tweaking have come very close to most of Andy's tones. I am at work right now but I will post a clip of message in the bottle later. I usually have parallel path, use the Roland, Fender Twin, even a marshall in there. Echoplex, electro-harmonix, and seventies chorus are used quite a bit. I am usually more of a hard rock guy but we have a three piece band and decided to do the police thing on the side. It has been one of my favorite uses of the helix. I might have a little bit more dirt on my message in the bottle tone than that clip, but I have no doubt it can replicated very accurately! And yes, I cannot listen to Roxanne on the radio, but it's fun to play in the Crowd Goes Crazy, we usually do the live version and have a breakdown in the middle.. I would rather play Roxanne then Sweet Child O mine LOL

I know they made a variax bass. Is it discontinued? Do the old models work with helix? I know my 500 does to a point.. Trying to talk my bass player into a helix, would be cool to have the tunings available!
-
I rarely use a Vol Block but I have been noticing this a little bit myself. I always thought I was tapping the volume as I was tweaking my sounds, but I'm beginning to realize that's not what is happening. So far it has never done it during a gig Just What I Am at home doodling. And I prefer editing on the machine sitting in front of my speakers so it's not connected to the PC.

Lost my snapshots, Update can't be worth this..

Yeah just trying to talk myself into being positive.. I have a ticket into Line 6, so we shall see if they can hell, or at least figure what happenend.. I will let yall know.. -
Don't give up yet, I have used Line 6 products since the Inception, and I never use preset material. My custom patches always sound better. When I bought the helix I was underwhelmed at first, thought about sending back about 5 days into it, but three months later I have tons that will knock your socks off. Once you learn the depth of the parameters, I guarantee you can find what you need. Granted there is a slight learning curve but once you get the hang of it the quickness of editing is like nothing else out there. Keep playing for a few days and don't make a rash decision. For what it's worth I am an into the amp guy, my patches sound horrible into headphones or a PA. But marvelous through my system. It is all in how you approach it because all the tools are there

Thanks guys. Yes I backed up correctly with the right version of editor. I went back to old version and then reinstall the new version and everything seems to be working now. However I still lost my snapshots because my original saves got corrupted somehow. It's weird it's saved all my blocks and the names of the patches, but just no snapshot settings. I guess the lesson is to do as I say and have many versions of backups just in case, not just set list but individuals as well. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but at least as I read each patch I can change the snapshot colors and I am replacing the Archon and a lot of my patches. It's just like getting a helix all over again! -

global settings are set to preset/snap I did not rename any snapshots, so they still read snap 1 2 3 4 just when you go from sanpshot to snapshot, no changes at all All the right amps, peadls, etc are saved in the preset still, just no snap settings I did not save individual patches when I updated, just the setlists. I did not save them until right before I updated but I have 3 setlists, and all 3 behave the same when I imported them Thanks for trying to help,I have a ticket into support right now, maybe they can salvage or at least help fix this in the future.. It seems the setlist saves are the issue, but we shall see -

Sure hope so, all the above has been done. Went back to 2.01 and reloaded. Again, all patches there, no snapshot settings. I am so pissed I don't know what to do. This is basically gonna be me starting over from scratch on 40+ patches. I hope Line 6 can help or I will never upgrade for any reason ever again!! -

Yes, i updated editor, did the 9-10 and 10-11, I only backed up setlists, not individual patches. Went back and set globals to the 4 patches on top and 4 snaps on bottom, all patches were there, but all snapshot settings are gone. I read the forums for weeks before the update, thought I did it perfectly. Havent messed with global eq so much, so not worried about that. But i have months worth of very intricate snaps, and I feel sick!! Hoping maybe Line 6 can help when they re-open.. -
Just updated exactly as described, still lost all my snapshot settings. I use them extensively, and I can't imagine the amount of work I am gonna have to do to recreate them. Almost 50 patches usually with 4 snaps each. I waited till after my last gig of the year, But I am gonna be sick unless anyone has been able to figure this problem out? I can not imagine ever updating my helix again for any reason. Horrible update process and judging from all the other issues I see yall having with this, it certainly needs to be looked at more closely by the fine folks at Line 6. Been using their stuff since the very beginning, and this is my first real issue. But it is a big one. Maybe someone has a fix, and I am over reacting, but if not this makes me wanna toss the damn thing out the window. But I love it too much.. I went from 2.01 to 2.11, on a P.C., everything seemed to go so smooth, but nope, all my settings are just.. gone...

I agree I have been using Line 6 products for 20 years now I guess. I can buy land most artists very quickly or at least something similar. We already Play Groove Machine and I have a great patch for that. But the early stuff is a sound that has forever eluded me. I guess it is the lab series stuff but nothing else gets close to the sound. I'm actually getting pretty pleased with the Rhythm sound. But I can't get the lead to send anywhere close! Have fun in New York, I'll see them as often as I can probably eight or nine times so far over the years and met them a number of times. I just love that I play in a band that plays King's X!
-
By the way.. I run my helix stereo through powerblocks and cabs.. still not an frfr guy yet, even though Im trying some IR blocks for the first time, and may be a solution there?
-
Hey all, so Kings X is my favorite all time band, and my 3 piece band plays anything, so want to add Its Love to the set. I am getting close with the main sound, but can someone help me with that crazy low mid punch in the leads? Or main tone, just hoping someone on here has gotten close on the helix! Maybe an eq block or low flange setting? Everything has that small amount of constant buzz, such a cool tone but its eluding me! Thanks in advance

I have a Crate 4×12, and a line 6 2×12. I have a three piece band, and like to put the 2x12 on the far side of the stage to give some stage spread. It sounds great as is, but I know I'm missing out on some helix goodies running this way. I habe some deep patches and juat sometime add a preamp or cab in a split chain for certain tones. I have not played with cabs much at all though, once I realized running just amps sounded much more vibrant. Im sure tweaking cabs can give you some nice sounds as well. I just had a bunch of gigs, and made a ton of patches based on that principle to get going. Now that I am fine tuning, I havent seen too many IR users running into amps. Thanks for the tips and thoughts..
-
Thank you! I only have a few preamps in there, usually as part of a stereo chain..but certainly through headphones or into a PA my patches are awful. Good idea to find some IRs to balance that out!
-
So.. mostly because it's what I have, I am running my helix into the back of two power blocks and 2 different cabs. Totally thrilled with it, Ive tweaked days and days to get where I am at. I only use amps or pre amps, though I do have two patches where a cab adds a cool sound to my chain.. So for those of us doing this method and not FRFR.. do the IRs have any good results? Before I spend too much time on em, or buy some. Thanks, just curious what results you have had..
-
Too bad! I was hoping that wasn't the case..all those pretty colors going to waste! Thank you
-
Hey all, had my helix 5 weeks. 42 custom patches, each with 2-4 snapshots. Three gigs and Ive been very happy with it. I seem to prefer the 4 banks on top row, with 4 snapshots on the bottom for now. Question is, how do or can i change colors on snapshots? Tired of seeing red all the time!
-
Hey Roscoe. I did see that thread, and will certainly try it out. I run two of em, so I need to go buy some new cables. When you run this way, is it still best to run no cabs? Or does it open up some cab and IR uses? Thanks again! Did my first gig this weekend with helix, preformed great, but i want the best i can get😎
-
Hello again! Love a good forum, so thanks in advance. So today my helix froze twice while editing. I waiting the secomd time to no avail. Anyone else having similar issues? Im all updated btw..
-
Thanks alot yall.. think I'll go with miking the cabs for now, im pretty happy with what I'm getting that way. Maybe I'll do a second version of everything through the p.a. Few things to take of before I'm able to justify some FRFR speakers. Your advise is kind of what I was expecting, but a few great nuggets of advise in there.. happy gigging!

Excuse the typos please. It was late and I was using my cell phone😎
