  1. You don't have to monitor through the POD. If audio output in Ableton is set for your computer speakers, it could just be that you need to turn monitoring on for the track you're recording into. It wouldn't be the first time I had spent time trying to solve a sound problem, only to discover it was something really simple that I'd just assumed would be ok. Having said that, it is preferable to live-monitor through the POD to eliminate latency issues.
  2. Not sure this makes any sense. Challa, what's your signal chain? We need more information so we can help properly. I use an HD500 with Live 8.
  3. To copy/paste on the unit, press save then select a different location before pressing save again. To copy/paste in Edit, highlight the preset then hold Ctrl while using your mouse to drag to another slot.

I just leave mine on Auto all the time.
  5. Tones will always sound different through different signal chains. My personal preference is to play through a pair of monitors, partly for flat response, partly for stereo, partly because I use the HD as an interface and therefore I'm also monitoring other instruments. Try the PA speakers and, ultimately, do whatever you think sounds best.
  6. You can assign more than one parameter to the pedal as well, so you could have a sweep of the pedal that increases the drive but also reduces the channel volume to keep the overall level similar.
  7. I don't normally bother with these lengthy threads about useless/useful updates, but I just wanted to say this: I don't understand why anyone has any loyalty to a brand, or believes that a brand has any loyalty to them. I buy things that do what I want them to do at the time of purchase. They sell what they think people want and that will make them money. It's not rocket science and it certainly has nothing to do with loyalty. Incidentally, I'd consider paying serious coin for something that'll do custom IRs (from a WAV file) and has a global EQ (in Hz), but that's not because I'm annoyed that Line 6 haven't added everything I want to my current product, it's because the current product has taught me that those are the features I really want on my next piece of kit.
  8. 1. It's fairly common for it to take a couple of tries to run the updates; I wouldn't worry about it. The USB FW is just a separate piece of firmware to run the USB protocols; as they haven't changed, there's no need to update it - don't think of it as an old version, think of it as still up to date. 2. I run my HD500 straight into active monitors, which is near enough the same as what you're doing. I find I get the best results using Studio/Direct as my output setting, but there's no hard and fast rules. Your hi-fi amp might colour the sound a bit, so you might find you prefer one of the other settings. 3. As with everything else, there's a difference of opinion about acoustic sounds. I don't have a Variax, but I do use an acoustic with my POD. Many on here recommend using the Vintage Preamp, which is in the EQ section of the FX list, rather than with the amps. My personal preference is the Fender Blackface normal channel. It's worth looking on Custom Tone if you're just after a few ideas to start from.
  9. I use a pair of KRK Rokit 5 plugged directly into the HD500. If I use unbalanced outs, I can take the roof off with the noise if I feel so inclined. If I use the balanced outs, I have to turn EVERYTHING up to 11 just to get a decent bedroom level.
  10. I don't think OP is talking about reamping; just about using two different setups. OP, you're correct in your two assumptions; sounds like you're set up as best you can be for that arrangement.
  11. "12.02 Fixed system dump data corrupted." Exciting stuff!
  12. The looper continues to work after you've changed back to ABCD, so is it not possible that you've accidentally set the looper recording, changed to ABCD then the loop has automatically started playing when it runs out of recording time? (I haven't tried this; it's just an idea)
  13. The POD's XLR out is at mic level, so you might have to crank everything right up to get a decent level.
  14. These are all excellent answers, thank you. +1 for you all.
  15. More of a computery question, really, but I'm sure some of you will be able to help... I understand what latency is and, for the most part, what causes it, but why do we have it? For example, my HD 500 is quite happy to do A/D and D/A with a whole bunch of amp modelling and FX processing in between and with no latency, whereas my decent-spec laptop can't do anything without adding latency delay. What's the difference? Why do computers always introduce latency?
  16. Nothing like that on the PODs. I've been considering getting a WMD Geiger Counter.
  17. Does anybody actually officially do this yet? As I understand it, the GSP1101 is an unofficial firmware, the AxeFx needs an unofficial file convertor, what about the KPA? Can it use an IR in WAV format, or would it still need converting? Any other kit that allows WAV IRs?

    A New Amp

Do you mean the Traynor K1? If so, it's a mono amp with stereo inputs, so you've got two choices, depending on what your amp setup is. You could pan your mixer left/right and use the two amps for a stereo rig. Or you could centre your mixer and get a summed mono to each amp. There are other options as well: You could take an FX loop to the K1 to use it as a dry amp and run it's line out back to the Pod then use the HT5 as a wet amp. Like I say, it depends what you're actually buying the amp for.
  19. You could get a GSP1101 for less than that pedal.
  20. Some interesting IRs here, if you're into that kind of thing > http://www.openairlib.net/
