Hi all I come back after a rehearsal with my new setup AKA Pod HD pro X and old Peavey classic 50/50, pluggued in a Bugera cab here in rehersal studio Config is same a in homestudio : studio direct output , global EQ to cut low freq I must confess it's just insane, we are started a metallica tribute band, so this kind of sound in tube power amp just sound like hell, f****g wild and agressive like a real good tube amp does. if you find this piece of gear , that cost nothing as it's as old as heavy, definetly give it a try...
-
Thanks for suggestions I will give a try to Line6 speaker , in guitar center, but for the moment they do not have.... For the moment , i will stay the normal way until i find a FRFR solution fitting my needs, just bought a old Peavey tube power amp that gives the POD some life. But the bad thing, it's f*******g heavy, like a dead horse, ouch :)

+1 !!! definetly And i would add rebalance parameter scope, i mean with some amp model treble is fizzy from 40 to 100 so.... rebalance to a usable scope And for defaut settings, a pretty even level for amp....

Maybe assigning a dedicated midi channel per device Do not assign the switch in POD, and assign only a midi message on this switch. Maybe ABCD Mode on POD can create issue, FS1-FS8 mode can help

Hi spaceatl Nice bunch of information i've looked Jensen tornado response it seems pretty "neutral" or not too much tainted, i'll have a look on others common speakers From my side, i've bought today a cheap and old Peavy classic 50/50 for a really cool price, it definetly adds a warmth to pod sound !!!

I've found that some guitar cab are way too much oriented to provide a decent tone for instance i've played on a EVH 212 and this was not really nice

Hi guy I launched this topic in order to discuss the standard guitarist way, i mean POD HD -> Power amp -> Cab My background is when i begun with pod it was through a power amp (Rocktron velocity 300) and various cab in rehearsal studio. Then i've tried and switch to FRFR but unfortunatly my choosen solution wasn't statisfying despite the convinience Now i've switch back to Power amp solution and cab and feel like with the knowledge i've now tweaking patch this can work. I've used few days ago this satck setup and with rocktron set to flat (Reactance 5 and definition 5) the result with an Hiwatt model amp + Hiwatt cab and SM57 off axis was really good. Even setting pod in studio direct , with cab/mic with emulation the overall realism and presence of my sound through a guitar cab was pretty natural and pleasant (that word i've forgot for sometimes with the pod learning phase :) ) For those who read my previous post, even my mate guitarist was forced to lower volume against rocktron velocity loudness, i've let him set his amp ridiculously loud at the beginning of session, he kept telling me put you louder, then i've put my ear protector and i've done, and in Rocktron PA completly blow the room :D. Even bassist was behind my wall of sound hihi, i feel like volume war in my band is over :) and we'll start really working on our overall tone. My last question is which physical cab to use for a good and present live sounding. What are your experiment in this situation, and conclusion

and the soution i was about to suggest but already written in the linked forum Set up the preset on the POD HD Pro and the GC Pro to synchronize the enabled/bypassed states as desired and save the presets you've programmed on both units.

The POD HD Pro MIDI implementation doesn't follow convention. Typically a CC value of 0-63 means 'off' and 64-127 means 'on'. However any value (0-127) sent to the HD simply flips an effect to its opposite state (on or off) making it impossible to predict and automate the required HD effect state using MIDI commands, within an HD Patch.

I'm not used so much with midi implementation of POD But if i'm correct before buiying mine + MKII fbv , i've looked for midi controler and read ....somewhere... that midi foot controler won't reflect preset status, as FBV do with active and inactive switch light on controler. So i would tend to think that either it's a buggy interaction between your controler and pod and ..... Bingo after a research -> http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/pod-hd-pro-figured-id-post-here-since-rich-renken-somtimes-is-on-here.993540/

does this occurs even when USB cabe isn't plugged ? i has this probem when puggued to usb each change done via switch were kept when changing preset, and reverting to previous changed preset, reflect action i've made previously and not the saved state. Another question are you sure your midi controler do not send extra information when using preset change midi message ? such like CC on/off state for every switch on your board ?

FX Loop really act the way a stomp FX does You have on/off state and input volume, and output volume. And one point i've discovered , beware FX send you use cause pod input/path configuration impact FX send output . PATH A : POD Input 1 in FX Send Left (and nothing in right FX send) Maybe it was my configuration but that's the result i had, hope it can help

Hi guy got this issue when set my pod hd pro in ABCD control mode, and footswitch assigned in the preset on fs5 and fs6 and.... as i wanted to do in FS1 -FS8 assigned switch were rebalanced randomly

Yep that's a bad habit seen in 20 to 30 years guys band My mate guitarist is so used to play alone that he doesn't even know guitars must been tied together , i completetly agree your remark , and Crusinion2 and Iknowathingatwo... My goal is to have a bit of headroom, cause we are a young band and playing mostly complete live gig, so playing the head in my amp or speaker when my mate during a gig start feeling alone, is not a great solution :) And of course band that take time to really set their sound, and arrange music to use correct sound or elements, the right moment , don't really needs to plays so loud, which is a fake loudness. We've done this job in my previous band and we reach a nice live mix. With this one i'm just slowly trying to demonstrate them these aspect has we are recording a first demo, i point errors in sounds or music, with crash cymbal against singer, or distorted bass that kills everything, but a band is a sensitive team to convince it take time :) And yes i notice that my FRFR despite the low volume really push sound in front
-
hi nope, i'm in France, my POD is HD PRO X bought one year ago from Thommann I've a rocktron velocity 300 power amp and it work fine with it (despite the fact i was totally pod newbie and my sound were awfull at the moment :D) level was never an issue , i had plenty of head room with volume.
-
Hey Cruisinon2 i'm not sure answering by what you think of what i ask will be usefull in any case. By the way you misleading yourself by answering to your own interpretation. If using FRFR rig with POD and active speaker at a given SPL was so easy , i'm not sure this forum would even exists But anyway , i know that my speaker is either over rated or faulty
-
do you have the link :) i've seen it in the afternoon at work but i can't find it again
-
Thx not sure i can't solve it too, i've tried , as in still in the POD experimentation phase, i've plugged it in my audio interface and i can easily reach digital 0db and even clip, so i tend to believe my pod is ok Maybe my speaker is f*******d
-
around 120 db spl. Cruisinon2 i feel that this postulate been clear enough So i feel my conclusion seems quite reasonnable : But i agree other guitarist tend to drown everything but despite this fact at the moment i feel my speaker is lacking power, cause even acoustic drums was covering me
-
lol it's not prediction, covering an acoustic drum is a known landscape , it give guidance, i can rephrase but this remains the same, standing a live rehearsal in a metal band with acoustic drum and 50 w tube amp. That's rock !!! unfortunatly not mixing or sound design :) Here i have not much way to show what the problem is. But i agree other guitarist tend to drown everything but despite this fact at the moment i feel my speaker is lacking power, i've read lot a review saying that it was so powerfull and i seems definitly not. I've tried suggestions, so my xlr outputs were right on line level so maximized, backsize meter display around 80% or 90% ,for test i've tried to clip a bit the inputs , with pod master at 12o clock and speaker master at -6db i've been able to strum a chord without been killed by my girlfriend.... edit : i've tried XLR (mic and line) and 1/4 jack too same no change arf :D
-
so if i'm correct for all your suggestions, With speaker set to unity , input sensitivy set correctly and handling volume with POD master at 12, i should start killing my band mate ? Correct ?
-
To set my EV Speaker, i've two measurement first a digital peak meter on lcd screen that i try not overdriving and keep some headroom, and a witness light in front of the cab that blink whenever amp limitation start to avoid damaging My guitarist mate has only a 50w Engl tube amp, and has the habit to play ridiculously loud, and i've struggling with my rig to be heard during rehearsal. I'll try tonight maximizing input sensistivy as suggested , reducing the global Speaker volume and see if i can increase effective volume of my rig
-
Héhé nice !! i'l will give a try tonight, cause i've seen a switch for xlr(that i use) and if i'm correct it was in Line position so should be theoricaly correct
-
thanks guys for feedback A friend of mine have some tube preamp, i'll give a try. Theorically i feel a flat response tube preamp should ony had overtones related to tubes response, but pratically .. seems weird from what you are describing :/ IMHO tube tend to focus a bit sounds on midrange but it's hard to precisely identify where, and changes upper mids and high spectrum to a sweeter one, maybe harmonics parity stuff..
