  1. Everything you are saying is correct... other than plugging into the out. It is an out not an in. Unless I am having a brain fart and the out is an in and in an out. For the most part, 4cm is for when you want to use you amp's tone, not just the amp's power. You sound like you don't want to use the amp's tone, just the power. Stay away from the four cable method. The one thing you may be overlooking.... When you are using [not a pa], how good is your tone going to be anyhow. So, to me, you can skimp a little with how precise you need to be. But, at the same time, there are options that can be used in both situations - such as turning your chosen sound source for small gigs into your own monitor for larger gigs. In which case, you wouldn't want to skimp. For example, I use the JBL EON. It can go on the floor facing away from the crowd. It can go on a stick and face the crowd. Sometimes it is my monitor at the front of the stage, sometimes it is my monitor at the front of the stage near the microphone, sometimes it is my monitor back by the keyboards where I might not hear the front monitors but don't need yet another PA monitor because I am only playing a couple songs back in the corner. Hell, for that matter, sometimes it is just my keyboard amp, lol. I think sometimes people put too much thought into it. Or they think they need [specialty item] when they just need [item]. I don't know where you live. But Craigslist has plenty of used gear. Plenty of options are available without breaking the bank.
  2. Depends on what you mean 'open' the files. I am sure you don't mean trying to double click a file. Beyond that, I don't own the device to know specifics.
  3. HA Most people talk about the large editor on a small screen. The only way to change the size of the editor is to change the resolution of your screen... which isn't ideal.
  4. register - yes. but that doesn't get you a warranty or anything like that. Also, sometimes you can't register a used product until the original owner removes it from their account. I believe if you open a support ticket, they can expedite the matter.
  5. If all other input and output and fx variables have been investigated.... I would try moving the device... just the one device... into another room using another outlet on another circuit. Away from all air conditioners, refrigerators, cell phones, watches... To me, the cycle is constant. Something that may occur from interference.
  6. Which I think is fine in the standard 'tech' industries. But MI tech moves much slower than the rest of the world, putting out products every decade instead of every year. I wouldn't expect you to still be giving us new amp models and 'bug' fixes, but drivers to be able to communicate should be continued.
  7. That is a grounding issue. And it could very possibly be "the place i live at has quite an old electrical installation". It can sometimes be cured by simply plugging one unit into a different outlet. I don't know enough about UK/EU/Spain electricity to know, but I am going to assume that different volts would cause a different issue, not a grounding issue.
  8. Without hijacking the thread with a "polarizing" issue... Logic vs trickery aren't always separate issues. For example: Have you ever considered killing your mother? The correct answer is yes. For no reason other than... by me asking the question, you have therefore considered it. It is the Pandora's Box scenario, once you open it, it can never be closed. This is no different than the questions I stated before. By asking the questions I mentioned, I am therefore considering it. It runs through the mind. Even if the answer is negative, I have considered it. Followed by the slippery slope... adding a little bit until it becomes accepted, then adding a little bit more and more, until eventually you have exactly what you wanted from the beginning but would never have gotten all at once. They are forms of trickery.
  9. That can't be a real question. LOL. This question would be better asked in the Helix section. Anyone who dropped the 500 isn't going to be reading the 500 posts.
  10. I am not an Apple user, so I don't really keep up. But I believe that they determined it is an an Apple issue... because Apple doesn't play nice and forces companies to submit to their wishes instead of allowing a free market society. I think the only recourse you have is to use generic drivers. But, again, I am not an Apple user. That could be 10 year old information for all know.
  11. Don't be so sure about that. I often have guys rubbing against me saying things like "try it, you may like it" and "how is a man's mouth different than a woman's". But that is a separate issue. I am assuming he is talking about the rainbow banner around the logo.
  12. All of the suggestions still work. Or, at least, the correct suggestions still work. Some of them were dead wrong 5 years ago, they didn't work then and won't work now. The correct ones work just as much today as they did then. But you having issues with compatibility between old and new devices is a separate issue, and it is unrelated to anything previously posted.
  13. The typical solution is: Switch the signal path on the computer from incoming to outgoing. *don't ask me how to do it, that isn't the way I use my machine. I just know that in your control panel, you reverse the flow.
  14. I always meant to write that down in an official format. Something that could be printed, hosted, and shared. But never got around to it.
  15. Nope. No configuring to be done. There isn't even a volume control. You either plug them in and they work... or they don't.
  16. The answer has been given. But before you do that, let's make sure they are gone. Patches don't just disappear for no reason. So, if example, if you had EDIT turned on, and then turned on the POD... it may look like the patches are gone, but they are not.
  17. Pod Pro... the red one - no, not to my knowledge. But I will let someone with actual experience answer. Pod HD Pro... the black one - yes. easily. But not directly unit-to-unit that I am aware of.
  18. I don't have a variax, so I can't answer this. However, while we wait for someone to arrive... Does this happen while the Variax is unplugged? Does this happen while manually editing? Does this happen while using the device.. such as simply switching patches.
  19. There are suggestions we could suggest. But first I would suggest you seek suggestions for the proper device. That way the suggestions you get are the suggestions that will work for the specific device that you are seeking suggestions for. This is the Pod HD board. I am going to assume you want the Pod GO board.
  20. I know it has the word Pod in it, but the Go is a Helix, not a Pod. The post is still there, pinned to the top. It works with: HD 300 HD 400 HD 500 HD 500x HD Desktop HD Pro HD Pro X
  21. The HD500X is still sold in stores... although, supplies are limited as the product was recently retired (as well as supply chain issues). A good insurance agent (good for the company, not the client) might force you into the same product since it is still available, or might say "you had it 10 years, it is not worth the same amount" and force you into a used one. Beyond that, "new replacement equivalent" is a tough one to decipher. Some would say The Helix, because it is the top of the line which L6 has to offer in 2023, the same as the 500 was in 2010. But that, to me, is hardly fair because technology has advanced so much, you can get free phone apps that do what the 500 can do. Others would judge price range, which would make it the Pod Go. But that, to me, is hardly fair because $500 in 2010 money is not the same as $500 in 2023.
  22. The built in pedal, as well as Pedal 2, is an expression pedal. It is not a dedicated wah or volume pedal. It is used to control whatever parameter you desire. Your choices are pre-pod, post-pod, and middle-pod via the FX Loop (which then allows you to incorporate it in a variety of positions). Not wanting to "engage anything "rules out the FX Loop. And post-pod is not really an option unless you are looking for that specific kind of tone. Which means the optimal position is what Silverhead stated - guitar wah pod. As to the 'weird things' the wah is doing... Any change of gear in the chain is going change the tone that comes after it in the chain. So, it could just boil down to the fact that you need to redesign your tone from scratch to accommodate new gear.
  23. You guessed wrong. I haven't checked recent sales figures (post CoVid and post small Helix release), but they were quite popular up until nationwide house arrest. It was only recently that they were moved to the legacy section. In May 2022, here's what L6 said: Q: Is POD HD 500X / HD Pro X still manufactured? No, it is no longer manufactured as of 12/1/2021. To me, knowing shipping times, and the delays at the ports... it wouldn't surprise me that there are still new ones sitting on boats. I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, but when Phil said it has been discontinued for years.... I am going to assume he was referring to the lack of new firmware, which we have all assumed meant the unit was unofficially dead.
  24. The 4 units are the same, so as long as they are running the same firmware, they will have the same factory presets (see note). There is an entire setlist dedicated to non-electric guitar tone. I would use them as starting templates for my own. Look at them, see what they do and don't do. *if memory serves, the X units have 1 factory patch more. I would not under any circumstances use anyone's microphone patches (see note). There is simply too much variation in microphones, voice, and desired outcome. The factory patches are a good place to start. But for me, no one is going to build a good tone but myself. *other than Silverhead's vocal/guitar splitter.
  25. Oddly, I thought I responded, but I must not have. First - Helix related forums, dataway ====> Yes, you can turn the stuff off. How... well... probably best to ask in the helix related sub-categories. Which can be found over there <==== And, as already mentioned ----- why buy a product who's main function is to do something you don't want it to do when you could save money buying the product you want
