  1. A lot of top DJs who make $100k+ per show don't even press a spacebar; some don't even tour with stage gear—just an empty table. Several top DJs don't even have input on their own tracks—they're just a face and hype man/woman and the label hires ghost producers. And I'm not just talking obvious ones like Paris Hilton—I'm talking HUGE touring DJs. AMPLIFi is our initial attempt to get people to play more guitar and press fewer spacebars.
  2. Synth playing and To be fair, synth player/programmer =/= armchair DJ.
  3. I updated two of the POD HD500Xs at the show and very quickly built a few patches around them. If anyone heard them, I'm sorry. It was really busy. They weren't working 100% anyway; I mainly loaded them to show that yes, we've actually updated POD HD. It's not some crazy fever dream. No demos yet—sorry.
  4. Not every change, but 8-15 seconds for the app to load the new preset's data so you could then edit it. Once the preset is synced, editing would be as fast as Firehawk. But none of this matters. POD HD will most likely never get user-loadable IRs or an iOS/Android editor. I'll occasionally add context to explain decisions to the extent I'm allowed, but after a while, I just feel like a jerk repeating the same bad news over and over. Sorry, guys. :(
  5. No, but switching presets and then waiting 8-15 seconds to edit it would be really lame.
  6. Think so; Firehawk's not my project, and they're still working out the details. That's my understanding—they wanted Firehawk to be able to take advantage of all the presets out there already.
  7. Comparing embedded DSP content to software is disingenuous. Here's a better question: Why are some people happy to pay over two grand for a box with a $12 Motorola processor in it? Because at over two grand, it must be worth it, right? Price perception is an incredibly hard nut to crack. We don't pretend to fully understand it either. Non-sequitur: Two of my best friends are Australian, but vegemite is evil!
  8. Firehawk should be able to read AMPLIFi tones from the cloud, but AMPLIFi will ignore Firehawk tones from the cloud.
  9. The NAMM organization says this year's show has twice as much floorspace devoted to synths as last year. A lot of companies see this trend of young people eschewing guitars, and they're pivoting their product lines to keep up. Instead, Line 6 is fighting the good fight with products like AMPLIFi and Firehawk. We want new guitarists, which is good for everybody.
  10. Currently, Variax Volume and Variax Tone can't be used as controllers in Firehawk, but I'd love for that to change. That was my pet feature in POD HD. Instant Matt Bellamy.
  11. Don't know yet; the team's still working out the details. Like AMPLIFi, Firehawk doesn't have any bass amp models, so support for Variax bass might raise some eyebrows.
  12. Just because I'm on my phone and it's difficult to track things down while at NAMM, could you PM me a link? Thanks. :)
  13. Insulting? :( Sorry, I guess. Sure—a few metal guys use the JC-120. It's used as a Jazz amp more often. It was designed as a Jazz amp, in 1975, before "metal" was even a widely known term. "Metal" and "Vintage" don't really mean anything; we just needed vaguely descriptive names. /worked at Roland for five years
  14. No massive MIDI mapping, one controller assignment (vs. HD's 52!), and 128 presets (vs. HD's 512) is enough to get Bluetooth syncing decently fast.
  15. Don't count the looper out juuuust yet. Time will tell. It's a POD HD minus dual amps, mic input, aux input, MIDI, L6 LINK, S/PDIF out, Mac/PC editor, 52 controller routings... ...plus a stupid easy-to-use mobile app that works with almost anybody's phone or tablet, infinite presets from the cloud, tonematching with your entire music library, higher contrast display, metal chassis-bolted knobs, intelligent output modes, RGB color footswitch rings for instant feedback, hardware blend encoder with LED ladder, power switch (!), separate L and R send jacks, all the POD Farm amps, all the POD Farm effects, dedicated reverb and assignable tweak knobs, super simple footswitch assignment, bluetooth streaming from Mac/PC/iOS/Android, class-compliant audio interface (no special drivers necessary and will record to iPad with camera kit), and the ability to auto recall your presets by simply playing your backing tracks.
  16. No new effects in 2.6. Any press release that mentioned effects is sadly a misprint. Sorry, guys.
  17. We're hoping a user will be able to load model pack purchases onto more than one device (like we do with X3/POD Farm), but we haven't sussed out all the details just yet.
  18. POD HD 2.6 is only for 500X, 500, HD Pro X, HD Pro, and HD (Bean).
  19. Posted above, here: http://line6.com/support/topic/11509-seems-theres-something-on-the-way-for-guitarists-at-namm/?p=79083 Nope. Everyone's existing patches need to sound identical. :)
  20. IT BETTER BE dB and Hz. Otherwise, we'll both grab pitchforks and stab me in the face. :D
  21. Only those expressly mentioned as POD Farm models are pre-HD, and are included primarily because so many people asked for them (especially the favorite classic metal amps). The rest are at least HD.
