If you plan on sharing those patches with others, absolutely.

Which of the 2.6 firmware model packs amps have 'pre' models?
Digital_Igloo replied to GazzaBloom's topic in POD HD
All of the HD amps have pre models. The ones ported from XT have never had pre models. Basically, the ones with "Line 6" before the name (and Pete Anderson Custom) do not have pre models. -
If you're running into StageSource, yeah, you could EQ your monitors independently of what's being sent to FOH. Global EQ's routing wasn't designed for this purpose specifically, but StageSource users could consider it a happy accident. Unfortunately for DT users—yeah, Global EQ doesn't apply to L6 LINK outputs. Confirmed. Again, this is due to L6 LINK's flexible output routing—POD HD would need six channels of Global EQ for this to work. There may be a way to shoehorn the existing Global EQ between L6 LINK > Master L/R in the future (will have to ask), but it's obviously not going to happen in FW 2.6.

Peavey 5150 = PV Panama Roland JC-120 = Jazz Rivet Fender Champ = Small Tweed Bogner Shiva = Mahadeva Orange OR80 = Mandarin 80 VOX AC30 Fawn = A30 Fawn Remastered JCM800 = Brit 2204 Ampeg SVT = SV Beast Gallien-Kruger 800RB = G Cougar 800 JC-120 cab = 212 Jazz Rivet Champ cab = 1x8 Small Tweed SVT 8x10 cab = 810 SV Beast SVT 410HLF cab = 410 Rhino There are no pre versions of XT models, so if you're looking at the pre only part of the amp list, it'll appear as if some models are missing.
-
Nope. Global EQ is a system-level setting. As with other system-level settings, it doesn't appear in HD Edit.

Model Pack pages have been updated now. Sorry for the confusion, guys. We've been talking about availability for months on this forum, but you're right—we should've made it really obvious everywhere.

I'll have to double-check, but I'm 95% sure Global EQ is applied to only the 1/4", XLR, PHONES, (EDIT: and S/PDIF) outputs. As L6 LINK outputs can be tapped from multiple places in the signal flow, it would require a duplicate Global EQ block for each of the four L6 LINK outputs. A lot of optimization was done to squeeze in a single stereo Global EQ without affecting everyone's presets, and four additional channels of Global EQ was just never going to fit. Sorry.
-
Yep; we added a new setlist of presets that recall Variax models, tunings, capo, volume, and tone settings. Whether you have a Variax or not, you can either check 'em out or ignore them.

FW 2.6 and License Manager problem with Pod HD (Bean)
Digital_Igloo replied to xpanmanx's topic in POD HD
Currently, only POD HD500X and HD Pro X support 2.6 and the model packs. Support for HD500, HD Pro, and HD (Bean) should be available in the next week or two. -
Yep. Drop the ResLvl parameter a bit and you may find them nearly identical.
-
Nothing's changed from what we've been saying since 2.6 and the model packs were first announced.

That's not how dynamic DSP works. The only way to remove DSP limits is to artificially restrict what and where you can assign specific models. So yeah, if POD HD limited you to one amp/cab, one reverb, one delay, one mod, one distortion, one eq, one compressor—AND crippled the sound quality of DSP-intensive effects models so they'd fit within a predetermined percentage, it would appear to you there's no DSP limit! Yay! Everyone approaches DSP allocation differently, and we've chosen (and will continue to choose, at least with our flagship modelers) to let people add whatever they want until they run out, which means it's on you to be smart about assignment. With great power comes great responsibility, as they say. But something like AMPLIFi or Firehawk FX, where ease-of-use trumps ultra-deep flexibility? Yeah, we artificially limit how many of each type of effect you can add. Just like Kemper, Amplifire, GT-10, GSP1101, and G-System. AxeFX's DSP allocation is somewhere between those and POD HD; it lets you add two of most types of models. And people can still hit the wall pretty easily.

To an existing product? That's actually very expensive. To every* Line 6 product going forward, because we learned our lesson? That's easy. :) *Unless there's a very good reason not to
-
It'd require two channels of audio—Variax models with embedded downstream data and Variax mags—plus a third channel for upstream data. Not impossible, but we wouldn't use anything but our best radios, so imagine the cost and complexity of managing three G70/75/90 radios in the same box and you're not far off. Variax battery life wouldn't be affected, as any belt pack Tx/data Rx would more than likely run on its own battery. Doubt there are more than a handful of people on the planet who want wireless VDI more than I do. Will say, however, that G70/75 are ridiculously cool boxes. They do a ton of cool things no other wireless system does. Sub-1.5 ms latency is worth the price of admission alone, IMHO.

I took a deep breath and heeded the advice I recieved here
Digital_Igloo replied to smrybacki's topic in POD HD
Tried getting into a lot of shows, but the only ones that have consistently maintained my interest: Game of Thrones Silicon Valley Last Week Tonight with John Oliver House of Cards (tho' Season 3 wasn't as good as 1 and 2) Fargo South Park Metalocalpyse True Detective Breaking Bad (when it was on) Everyone says I should binge watch The Wire. Suppose that's next... -
There's no maximizer/exciter that I'm aware of, unless you're talking about the various speaker mode filters. Nothing was omitted to make room for Global EQ; we squeezed it in by further optimizing the DSP code. There should be zero audible difference.
-
Ease of use is immensely important to us, and we've learned a ton about what does and doesn't work from POD HD. Yes, Firehawk reflects much of what we've learned, but there's always room for improvement.
-
With any luck, no more than a week or two. Surprises often happen, tho', and we won't release anything before we're confident it's solid.
-
For the record, there are currently no plans to add the model packs to existing stock or future shipping PODs. I really wish all our gear would automatically update while you sleep, like the Tesla Model S. At least AMPLIFi and Firehawk make the process seamless, as we can push both firmware and software updates to your iOS/Android device.
-
The support guys gave you our "official" release date, which is correct. Unofficially, we're still on track to release 2.6 and the model packs for HD500X and HD Pro X by the end of March, with support for HD500, HD Pro, and HD (Bean) shortly thereafter. Basically, nothing's changed since we announced release dates at NAMM.
-
The Global EQ is switchable (press ENTER while on the Setup > Global EQ screen), but it's.... global.... so you don't get any extra DSP if it's disabled.
-
Exactly. And depending on what models you're using, you might see a tiny bit of extra DSP headroom on top of getting Global EQ. With other models, you won't see a difference at all.

Actually, sorry, guys. I misspoke. Electric, Doom, and Epic have always indeed been HD. Last night I was working on a new song and noticed Pre versions of all three. Thought "Hmm... Wait, XT models don't have... Oh crap..." And then I totally forgot to type a retraction before going to bed. Apologies. Not sure why I spaced on it—maybe because the names sound like XT models and I've been in HD/XT model pack land for so long. Thanks for keeping me straight, hughanico.
-
HD has had L6 Elektrik, Doom, and Epic models (all XT) for years, so there's a precedent. EDIT: I'M WRONG. A bunch of artist endorsees and a ton of other people begged for their favorite XT models (mainly the metal ones) and since we'd done a lot of work getting both XT and HD models working together in Firehawk FX, model packs were a no-brainer. I won't lie, tho'. The whole "undermining HD with XT models" debate isn't unheard of in these hallowed halls. But when it comes down to it, XT models sound great, are on countless major label records, and take up less DSP, so you'll have more room for HD effects. Win-win. There are currently no plans to "unlock" model packs in future shipments of HD500X/Pro X, but I suppose anything's possible.
